Microsoft is not planning to increase prices of Xbox Series X/S

Nah, it won't. Playstation is too big to fail. Nintendo did way worse more than once and still have a good fanbase, as Sony and now Microsoft. Microsoft had to win big time on this generation or they were "doomed", Gamepass is their key to success. But Playstation will have to score big games soon because between paying 40-50$ a year for all the games on Xbox and paying 70USD for one game on Playstation may work for the biggest fans but for the common gamer, not sure it will do.
But Playstation's exclusives are huge. That's how they compete with "Game Pass".

This is a dangerous attitude.

World of Warcraft was too big to fail as well.

Not saying its dead, but it no longer has the lead and its slowly decaying by now.

Acti Blizzard is arrogant, and if Sony keeps up with it then it might bite them as well down the line.

Many of you dedicated don't care if the prices on the machine or games go up, but parents who buy consoles to their kids does.

We aren't their primary customers.

Of course not, MS makes their money from other areas and can subsidize xbox that way, Sony needs PlayStation to make money.
If that were true they would have never survived the PS3. Sony is more than capable of making money even when PS is losing money.

Thier insurance division propped them up for years.

Yeah... but for the common user that don't know Playstation history of exclusives, they might just check the price tag.
When Nintendo was price fixing and banning third-parties from publishing on other platforms, they owned 98% of the market.
I was more referring to Wii U but you are totally right. TurboGrafx 16 was never in the run.

Yeah, same comment as above. Here, we are a gamer community, as much Gaf and Era are big, we're still a drop in the ocean (not sure that expression is used in English, sorry if it doesn't).

No they didn't, they started doing that in 1986.

NES1 million
2600/Jr.775k
SMS125k
7800100k

That's not 98% marketshare, which they never owned that high. But they did make things worse as their market share increased.

Windows and Office banks. $$$

Some of these excuses brah I tell you.

Jack up the price of the OG PS5, then release the PS5 slim at the original price and claim they are "saving" you money on it....or something like that.

... Playstation is too big to fail...
Found Jim Ryan's NeoGAF Account.

In all seriousness though, PlayStation is the same as any other brand: given sustained negative moves, the general public will sour. Under Ryan, PlayStation now has the most expensive hardware, the most expensive games, and the most expensive services. And that's fine, as Apple has shown, as long you continue to deliver outstanding quality. If Nintendo and Microsoft deliver equal or greater quality to PlayStation, it won't take long for PlayStation's public perception to shift. "Arrogant Sony" is a meme for a reason. Right now, they're still riding high on the good vibes House, Trenton, and Yoshida pulled off in the PS4 era. It remains to be seen if Ryan is going to rock that boat. Upping the hardware cost post launch while posting massive profits could be seen as the first wave.

Yes it's a joke of the poor numbers there too but we should care about there instead. Also spot the Dark Mage playing up india in the India sales threads playing down the UK in UK sales threads and doing the opposite here now:

Fun times.
Leave me out of your nonsense. Xbox keeping the prices the same is a good thing period. The XSS continues to look like a fantastic idea for gamers no matter what detractors peddle. Good value matters.

While keeping the Xbox at the same price is a good thing for gamers overall, there is still a risk for MS to leave it. The perception that the most expensive is the best.

I cry about Xbox and hate PlayStation.
expected, they would be pretty stupid to follow Sony's move, Microsoft have nothing to lose here since they are catching up and able to take the loss.

Poor mom and pop store Sony right?

Well there's a massive difference between a market cap of $100 billion and $2 trillion if that's what you're implying. Like, a 20x difference.

Certain privileges come with the latter that the former lack. That's just the truth. Sony enjoyed a somewhat similar position when they entered the market, against Sega and Nintendo. It is what it is.

Lol Sony can charge whatever the fuck they want and still be sold out on consoles.

In my region I can head over to my nearest electronics store and pick a Series S or Series X (If I'm very lucky) off the shelf. Meanwhile PS5 consoles are sold out country wide.
Online alerts for PS5 console stock coming through social media groups are sold out in seconds.

Demand is STILL crazy high for PS5. Even if they bumped it up by another $50, the units will still be moving. Smart businesses decision to make more money. Strike while the iron is hot.

You expect a userbase north of 114 million carried over from PS4 with crazy high attach rates to start shifting to rival platforms. It will take a series of major missteps by Jim Ryan and co to even nudge any portion of that userbase in another direction.

See my post above. Demand for PS5 is still absolutely insane in my region and I'm sure in many other territories and will remain so despite the price hike. I do agree with your other points though. Previous PS hierarchy set a very high bar during early days of PS4 and it remains to be seen if Jim can continue the momentum but all evidence show he's doing a decent job of it.

Or simply don’t purchase a next gen console. You can call it good business but raising the price of a home console that is already out is kind of unprecedented, it’s usually the other way around. Hopefully Sony doesn’t expand on this price increase to other regions.

Also, It doesn’t affect me personally but it really sucks for regions affected by this. If Microsoft follows suit eventually in the same regions, or more, it will be unfortunate as well and would need to be call out on it.

+ no games?

Really? I’ve been playing a lot of games on mine. Way to swing at low hanging fruit … and you still somehow miss and not even stay on topic.
