Microsoft is not planning to increase prices of Xbox Series X/S

Done! 😀 Give it a 500,000 interval (17,5 to 18), just to account for unforseen events. The avatar of your choosing, of course!

We can't account for unforseen events lol. I'll take it at 18 million, that's sonys stance. it will be fun :D I'm happy to lose, I hope you get me with a good avatar if I lose haha.

I mean, imagine if sony started giving them away...id still accept defeat ;)

I just don't want to see them claw back too much marketshare too quickly.

I've liked MS being on the backfoot and working towards me as a consumer. It's brought me a shit ton of value and I worry that if gains start coming too quick, they will lose sight of it.

We saw it from the transition from the Ps2 to Ps3 from Sony, 360 to One from MS and now PS4 to 5 from Sony again.

I don't know what about being the leader turns them predatory, but it seems inevitable.

Agreed. Hopefully they stay the course. Luckily Spencer seems passionate about his job, that might keep him there a bit longer, even with a nice retirement waiting and ready.

Fingers crossed that any type of leadership transition doesn't rock the boat. Phil and Co. are probably the most "for the gamers" group that have existed in the gaming space. Basically looking under rocks to find ways to provide us with more value.

Could you imagine if Ryan got fired from Sony and hired by MS? That would not be a good trajectory for GP.

Found Jim Ryan's NeoGAF Account.
Lol! Seriously though, if they survived Playstation 3, they can do it again with 5. They just had to release a P5 Pro or be quicker than MS and going for P6 early. But Gamepass is quite enticing, even for Playstation fans I think.

It's like two schoolyard bullies waiting on each others first moves. When the Xbox One and PS4 were announced Sony was smart to see reactions to MS' always-on push. Then we had some back and forths and now MS waited for Sony's move and of course will wait at least a couple of weeks, if they increase their prices at all.

However, MS seems, as of lately, less of a bully. I mean, you can literally refund the Game Pass. I want to see Sony giving refunds for PS+ or whatever they call their online services now; and MS won't require you to spend a Cent for cloud save games.

Not owning a MS console, but they do so much right this generation so far.

If Microsoft announces a $30 / 30€ price cut across all markets my guess is Sony is going to look really bad in the picture, unless they start bundling games on that 550€ starting price.

It already looks bad on Sony. Their game division since around 2016 when PS4 and digital sales and mtx really took off has lead to record profits for the division. It's not like the division is struggling and needs to bump up prices to stay alive.

In the past handful of years, the gaming division has made more profits than PS1, PS2, PS3 and early parts of PS4 combined. Last time I saw, the division makes somewhere around $3-4 billion profit alone.

Great, when they do that we can call them out on it. Was I calling Sony a saint?

They did not do that, buying large publishers and bringing long standing multiplatform series exckusive, neither they did that while decrying exclusives and promoting gaming for everyone and other platitudes. When they do, fair game.

Edit: thanks CatLady CatLady for going through a reaction score boost rampage, not fishing off it but you are volunteering your help. Appreciate that ;).

Glad to help. All your sad Sony sob stories certainly deserve them.

Microsoft could have exploited this a little more (mini revenge for the $399 and used games mic drop during the PS4/Xbox One era) by saying:

"Just in case you wondering....our prices will stay the same but for a limited time, every Xbox Series S/X purchase will come with two free months of Game Pass.
It's not a massive deal but it works out to a saving of about $20, and who doesn't like getting $20 worth of services for free? Come and join the Xbox family, (the water's lovely!)"

Or something along those lines. They could even run a TV ad campaign. I want to see some Mac vs PC style ad campaigns.
Phil is too soft to do something like that to Sony

He's got to be a bot, right? :messenger_tears_of_joy:

MS secretly kept pushing the always online bullshit years after. They are just as big of bullies as they have ever been. Only difference is that Playstation is just as poorly run these days with terrible choice after terrible choice.

Both need to get their head out of their asses.

Look, I am a Sony fan, but I don’t understand their decision. Yes chip prices and distribution costs may have increased, but the tech is now 2 years old, so the general price of these chips should be at least lower compared to 2 years ago.

It's really easy to figure out.

Software sales are down, easiest way to offst it is by increasing hardware ASP.

They need to keep numbers trending up for bonuses and this was the easiest way. 3 systems sold is MRSP of 1 game and it cost them nothing to do.

None of thier 1st party games hit 33% so they stand to make more this way than releasing more games.
