Video game companies you worry about?

The bear of bad news
This is not worry like doomed, but how you personally feel about the direction of certain companies.

I'll list my top 5 and others can do the same. Try to do this and give your honest assessment without warring please.(y)

Platinum - their business is so up and down I hope they will survive or not get bought out. They have a lot of talent.

Nintendo - Again, I don't worry about them financially, but their franchises to me are so casual, safe and boring. Bring back some good franchises like WaveRace or Eternal Darkness.

Konami - They lost their soul when they lost Kojima.

Sony - they're doing well off PS4 momentum but I don't like the decisions they've been making and I'm not sure about their future nor am I yet a happy PS5 owner two years in.

Rockstar - With all that talent leaving and the focus on GTA Online, they might be crushing it in profits, but with key devs leaving and lack of activity, what kind of actual gaming company is left there?

Konami obviously, they say they haven't given up on gaming but we all know otherwise, let's take Kojima out of the picture, they still have a bunch of good IPs but they just aren't doing anything with them.

Not a publishing /development company but In terms of retail, I’m a bit concerned about physical media and where it’s heading short term. Here in the UK , my local Game branch is closing soon which I’m disappointed about, great staff who I hope are ok long term.

Trading in was always a help to me and I love collecting physical copies of games particularly ones with cool special editions or nice cover art. I feel that’s edging closer to ending.

In terms of games, I think Konami are finished in terms of being what they once where, they are soulless these days.

None of them, really. My only concerned I guess would be that Rockstar doesn't shit the bed with the next GTA game, but I think they've earned enough cred with the quality of their tentpole franchises.

Rockstar - They’ve tasted the GaaS money and will just chase it forever

EA - They just completely fell off for me last gen. 360 era they were quite good. Seemingly about to get acquired by someone.

Konami- They’re not really a game company anymore. Sad.

Ubisoft - Division 2 and AC Odyssey were great. Other than that, it’s been a whole bunch of trash. Desperate for a successful GaaS.

Platinum- They’re hanging on by a thread. Bayo 3 better be good.

Only one really is Remedy for the same reason you listed platinum.

They'll both probably get bought eventually.

I wasn't worried about anything and then......

Sony - All they had to do was follow the damn train PS4 success with more of the same. Instead, they are taking unnecessary risks that may bite them in the ass on the long run.

CDPR - I think that most people that made Witcher 2/3 are not there anymore. It was lighting in a bottle. Just like Bioware and so many other companies, without the original crew, all that's left is the name of the company.

And theres nothing new to be said about Konami. Its just a corpse.

I’m scared that there won’t be a game like Shadow of the Colossus ever again

Or anything remotely close

Or any game at all for that matter

Sony would not survive another generation doing more of the same. Single player games don’t sell enough to sustain an entire ecosystem

I don't see an outcome where WB Montreal isn't toast after Gotham Knights flops. They are absolutely done.

Rocksteady. I'm sad to see them lose their way. It really should've been a Superman or Justice League game. But without Paul Dini they are a little ehhhhh. However their mechanics and gameplay are some of the best out there. Unfortunetly a quick bit of digging on Glassdoor will tell you they've been bleeding big time talent for years now. A bad sign. Not even really the same studio that gave us the Arkham trilogy anymore.

Speaking of hemorrhaging big time talent. Rockstar. Love their games and the Tarantino witty ass scripts are a big reason why. As well as of course the general creative direction. Without Dan Houser and just about any producer that made GTA, GTA, I have trepidation for grand theft auto 6.

I'm pretty sure that they would be fine. Playstation was (and still is) the main platform for most of multiplatform franchises in terms of sales.

Nintendo will launch Switch 2, same shit but more powerful, and it will sell like hotcakes

CDPR - Not so much their games, i'm more worried about their GOG business. They're not the greatest at managing their stuff and might just end up going under while taking GOG with it.

Valve - Really wanted them to keep investing in VR, they might just have gotten bored with it. We really need other companies investing in the space to not let Facebook sweep the table.

Microsoft.

I feel like they are skating on the wire, and losing their grip on the ceiling. After struggling paying off their payday loans, i feel the company won't have enough income to stay afloat. With everyone using Linux and people playing on Nokia and Amazon gaming consoles, it's only a matter of time before they go under.

But seriously, I'm not really worried about any of them, the only time i was worried about a 'gaming" company were Atari and Commodore because I had invested with inflation today $5000+ each in their ecosystems before both of them dropped out of computers, one by force. But that was more about worrying about me than them.

I'm not worried about any of them. If I survived Sierra On-Line shitting the bed back in 1998 with CUCk International I can survive anything.

None of them.
If they provide me with the product I want, they'll get my business. Otherwise, I'm indifferent to their very existence.
Companies are not my friends and their status is of no importance to me whatsoever.

Nintendo doesn’t only make single player games, in fact their highest selling games are multiplayer so this is a weird response

Embracer. I’m not worried about them, but they clearly have zero standards churning out buggy crap like Saints Row and are happy to take Epic’s exclusivity money to put their games where franchises go to die. Many studios and employees under them. Platform holders owning more and more content will squeeze them out of marketing and priority. Seems like only Saudi money will save them.

not financially obvi, but I'm worried Rockstar will only make gta/red dead for the foreseeable future.

Well with Sony my worst fear already came true, this gen Sony mostly stoped making first party Japanese games and mostly focusing on western games.

These two. All about games and gameplay. No fallbacks like EVERYTHING Sony and Microsoft. I always hope the best for them.

Rockstar a little. All the key people have left and the talk of their workplace culture transforming is worrying.

Uh uh time to rile up some M\sony boys:messenger_smiling_horns:

Sony: they already fucked in the ass the sequels of my number 1 and 2 gotg from past gen with their shitty crossgen politics, also half of the games in the oven are multyplayer projects and i give 2 fucks about them, i want mostly single player stuff from sony, also under jim they had become even more greedy lying fucks, the made from the ground up on ps5 tlou rescam that is both low budget and max price at the same moment (i call it Schrödinger remake) is just the latest straw... also the tvtvtvtvtvtvt meme now apply to them aswell, how the turntables uh...

M: Many interesting games that don't have trace of gameplay or even a release date and really feel like they are in development hell like fable, also 343 and rebellion are not even a shadow of their predecessors and both halo and gears suffered from this in a way or another (not for everyone but this is what I think)
Also i was expecting a technical jump from some of their new studios like arkane or bethesda but after seeing their latest trailers...boy i was wrong...

Rockstar: people always tell me that they are doomed because they are going woke, i still hope for a gta6 at least as good as rdr2, even just on a scope\technical side.

Kojima distilling a new parfume with his own farts after his last emh game, the guy could be beyond repair after death stranding, hopefully someone is gonna slap some cringe out of him.

I don't lose sleep over them but the bad signs are there...

Made a crappy phPBB forum once ... once.
They'll all be going to hell in a handcart in some shape or form.

The smallest oversight / misstep / mistake the twiterati (twaterati) will be all over them with their hive mind cancel culture.

I wouldn't go so far as to say I'm worrying about them, but Ea and ubisoft have significantly gone downhill over this and the last generation. While the news yesterday proved to be untrue, either of them getting bought out wouldn't surprise me.

I can't say I'm worried about any of them.

I was concerned about Rockstar but I have long gave up on them as it's so obvious what their direction will be with GTA VI. They were one of the best studios out and I really don't care about them anymore.

Also I suppose CD Projekt Red. I really hope they can recover from the backlash they got with Cyberpunk 2077. Personally, I thought it was a great game and the hate was overblown. I've played far worse games. I'm excited for the next Witcher game but some people will forever hold onto their anger of Cyberpunk and wish nothing but failure on CDPR.
