When do you think we will see another mind blowing next-gen game?

You believe that, if it makes you happy.
TLOU remake does look better than TLOU Part II. We'll probably see more Thursday

I've already watched about half an hour's worth of the gameplay. It's obviously - like, *incredibly* obviously - just using the TLOU2 engine and assets, models etc. Druckmann basically admitted as much when he said how cool it would be to bring the first game up to the second's standards (adding as an afterthought that maybe they could go even further).

I wouldn't rule out the possibility that they've added a bit of extra polish here and there, but I see no sign of it yet. And, like I say, the smaller and drabber environments in the first game combined with no obvious technical advance imo means this new game actually looks worse than the sequel.

It's a shit job they've done, I'm afraid.

So you think the remake is next gen, comparing those two pics? Oh dear… they’re almost identical.
I think there will be some current gen games that look way better no doubt but yes I think TLOU looks like it could pass for a early next gen game

Naughty Dog is just on another level you can't compare them with most studios

I just showed it in the pics
And what you showed is someone trying to nit pick minutia of differences and giving the victory to Part 1 PS5. Which could even be chalked up to differences in compression quality and/or it being the same scene with different focal points and camera placements which aren't the exact same between 2 separate games even if they are showing the same scenes playing out. Even then.... If you there has to be an argument as to which is better, it's not really selling a great point considering they are completely different generations of hardware. Maybe Part 1 remake does look better, but it doesn't look obviously better, at least not enough to delineate that it's on substantially better hardware.

I feel like its been a while. I still think HFW is the best looking actual playable game thats come out so far, it feels like not a lot of wow factor has been presented yet. I also think rift apart was crazy and forza horizon 5. It still feels like we haven’t even neared the peak of what games will be this generation, feels like it hasn’t even started to be honest.

Nothing really over summer gamesfest, xbox showcase, or ONL screamed next gen to me. Everything kind of just looks like whatever, some games look nice, like street fighter 6 or FF16, but they dont look like games that couldnt exist of previous gen.

When is the next big ‘holy shit’ game to be revealed? What game do you think it will be? If you think there already exist a game of that stature coming out, what is it?
When games using actual next gen engines release… The Matrix Awakens shows a glimpse of future titles. Hellblade II, Spiderman II…?

Once cross gen is over, the leap will be bigger than PS3 to PS4, that is for sure.

Completely new gameplay mechanics will emerge too. Just look at this water simulation in real time and think:

Some next gen features can only be used when the old generation is dropped. That is why current games look so similar and this generation appears to be a minor upgrade.

Fuck those old gen consoles. I can't tell you how much they hold back your current games. It's so, so painful.

Seriously tho I want to see water like this in a game

BadBurger

Is 'That Pure Potato'
This feels like The Lost Generation to be honest. The pandemic fucked everything up. We may never see this gen's hardware pushed to its limits.

the next GTA will def be generation defining just like RDR2 was, and for the record i didn’t love either game but rockstar are definitely in their own league as far as 3rd party devs go.
RDR2 did look good for sure, we'll have to see how they tackle GTA6. I don't expect the game to launch till 2025(initial release date might be 2024 but it won't make it), by then we should have good looking games from other devs already.

I disagree strongly. Since GTA 4, Rockstar upped their game when it comes to graphics. RDR 2 still looks amazing today. Also GTA 4 looked amazing when it came out and introduced things which are standard today, the same for GTA V.
Don't forget Max Payne 3.
Yes but those games didn't lead gfx. Only RDR2 did in 2018, GTA4 was outclassed before it even launched. GTA5 launched the same year Killzone Shadowfall launched..

Idk. It might stay like this, too. The most impressive games are taking a significant part of a generation to make. Ps4 is still getting support like ps5 never came out. For all we know, ps5 might be the base target way far into the pa6 gen.

I expect a lot of development will be next gen only in 2023 or later. Sony has some good things under wraps and I'm pretty sure Microsoft has acquired some interesting projects. Sonys September showcase and E3/Gamescom 2023 probably will be your best bet. Most projects have kept last generation in the loop so it holds them back from doing some things.
That Doke V game looked pretty good, not seen anything about it in ages though.
Ah well they have shifted it to a single player experience now and delayed it to 2023. Its the first single player title from the studio now. it was originally aiming to be an mmo. They probably will show it off sometime in 2023 with the changes.

That's disappointing.

The current consoles are pretty underpowered for their render targets. I'd not bet on anything "jaw dropping" at all.
I guess we can consider ourselves lucky if we get anything that's anywhere near the playable part of the matrix demo, and then we'd still be looking at 99,9% static setdressing because having something like that as a dynamic deformable and destructible environment is another 1-2 gens away.
This gen will be like the last but with higher asset quality, more freedom in the world building thanks to the new I/O and some lightweight implementations of RT.
For the next really transformative step in graphics, namely fully dynamic environments including all lightsources acting like real lightsources, we'll need at least another 10 years in hardware development if we get there at all within acceptable power consumption levels.

However, that is my personal take on the matter and what's "mind blowing" is probably subjective.
What utter nonsense and drivel. UE5 has full destructibility (chaos simulation) which is already calculated as part of your nanite build based on your target hardware.

sorry but that kind of advanced physics will never come into realization with slow 3.6 ghz 8 mb l3 cache zen 2 cores

entire gen will be constrained by low spec CPUs (yes, as of 2022, zen 2 3.6 ghz with 8 mb l3 cache only amounts to a low end CPU. 1 or 2 years later it will be tablet spec CPU, once again, jaguar situation all over).

3 years later you will start to see once again devs bickering about how slow the CPU on consoles are. mark my words

Completely new gameplay mechanics will emerge too. Just look at this water simulation in real time and think:

Put a jetski on it, and I'd want that, but it wouldn't be completely new gameplay. Water with some proper physics isn't really new. Looks a bit like an evolution of From Dust, a PS360 game.

Ratchet, allegedly one of the most next gen games had portals in the PS3 predecessor already. And Portal is probably the better portal game anyway.

Everything we get is nicer, but not entirely new. Hard to fully blow one's mind with stuff that is just bigger and better.
Considering the PS4 was not much of an upgrade in the CPU department to Cell, the standstill in game design the entire previous gen is not surprising and maybe soon there should be some jumps in some only next gen games when crossgen ends. Especially physics could need an upgrade. But even then, it would most likely just be an improvement. Imho the days of mind blowing stuff are past.

entire gen will be constrained by low spec CPUs
If prices of PC parts don't fall, hopefully crypto nonsense crashes even more, the adoption rate of those high end and even mid range CPUs and GPUs, with combined crazy 1000+W power use, will also slow things down and no one / nothing will want to be the next Doom3 or Crysis, actually pushing limits and leaving people behind. I bought a 4600G and its iGPU is good enough for now and my PC backlog. If I upgrade in the future either 1650GTX or something like that seems a reasonable choice. The gen will be constrained by it's already good enough mentality too.

another moron taking marketing blabla as gospel....
Theoretically doable/available != practically viable.

It's so ironic when the people playing down what is possible in a generation are always without fail absolute PC fanboys rofl. You'd think they'd accept and respect that everything is designed around pushing console hardware. None of them would have believed TLOU II or RDR II around the reveal of PS4/XBO in 2013. Same old insults and they'll be made to look just as foolish like before.

GTA 6, next PS5 games from Naughty Dog, Sony Santa Monica, Guerrilla & Insomniac.

We already have real-time footage from the game that’s gonna set the benchmark next year.

I don't think any standard video game is blowing my mind ever again, everything looks great these days......perhaps I'll try VR in like 10 years and that will do it.

Sosokrates

Report me if I continue to console war
Another? There hasn't been a mind blowing looking game yet. Probably hellblade 2 or Spiderman 2.
