Starfield Is Twice The Size Of Bethesda’s Biggest Game, Story Emphasis On Philosophy

The composer? What on earth did I just read. Do composers typically get huge behind the scenes looks at the games along with playtime with it?

That's what I was thinking too, but I do remember Howard saying this was their biggest musical score also. I guess it's possible that the composer would want to know about, or would have at least read, the scenes that the music is going to be placed in.

Good ones. Todd has said many times that Starting on the Score and particularly the main theme is one of the early parts of Pre Production for him. Zur would have been one of the first people to dive into what the game offers.

Nobody plays Bethesda games for the main story. Nobody gives a shit about Bethesda-level philosophy 101 nonsense. Bethesda games would all be 100% better without any main story campaigns at all.

Isn't 76 enjoyable now? Seems to be a common opinion

And it was a mmorpg with an evolving world, this will be a finished (content wise at least, until expansions and mods anyways) and realized story.

Seeing as he's the composer, he probably means total scope of the game, not necessarily land mass (though given the number of planets, seems a given)
It was a half baked money grabbing piece of crap. And they had the nerve to try to sell people a subscription called Fallout first for $100 a year on top of that. This whole "It's not how you start it's how you finish" schtick has gone on too long.

Because Inon Zur is the hero Gaming deserves, but not the one it needs right now.

So we'll hunt him. Because he can take it.

Because he's not our hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector. A Peter Molyneux.

So they've gone back to meaningless PR?

I was really disappointed with the trailer and went back to look at the view count hoping it wasn't just me. 2 months later the debut trailer sits at 3 million views on the official channel. That's really low in comparison with other trailers during the same time frame.

Because trailer views on YouTube is the the most important metric. It doesn’t event correlate with game sales. No sure why people keep bringing it up.

Gigantic game with a load of procedurally generated nonsense and a tiny bit of handcrafted goodness. Not for me thanks.

Literally just remake Oblivion with next-gen graphics and I'll be satisfied.

Uh... they never get me with these kind of comparisons and statements about a game's size. Instead my interest is more declining.

That shit may worked in the 90's: "With 20 levels!" or "with 6 huge stages!".

But with decreasing quality I couldn't care less about scale because it seems developers aren't willing or competent enough to do both big worlds and high quality content in it.

I take Gothic 2's small world over those huge ones any day if that means brilliant quality and open world design.

I like the fact that they don't even say what they think is their (Bethesda's) biggest game. Just that it's twice as big as whatever that may be. Stops you from being able to compare anything of significance.
Biggest as in most people played? That would be Fallout Shelter the cellphone game.
Biggest Time to complete all content? Morrowind followed by Fallout 76.
Biggest Game map? Arena the very first Elder Scrolls.
Biggest sales from a single title? I’m guessing Skyrim, not really sure how to find out.

The composer? What on earth did I just read. Do composers typically get huge behind the scenes looks at the games along with playtime with it?

How will he create music suitable for mood of the game if he doesn't know what it is?

He must be as involved as any of the developers.

I'm torn on jumping in day 1 or waiting for patches and mods to shape up. That'll take a year. It was worth waiting for cyberpunk.

Nothing Bethesda says about it means anything, really. I'm not going to know till I play it myself. The gameplay demo was discouraging but there has to be more to it than that. I imagine the meat of the game will be unique questlines in cities and towns, giving some context to the mediocre looting and shooting and crafting. My most anticipated game but I'm worried.

Even more 'important' when you consider something like Trueview ads also count as impressions/views once they hit a certain video completion rate.

I’ve been playing Morrowind for a while now and if we’re just speaking map size to memorable content, I prefer the smaller Morrowind map than Skyrim.

If they can put meaningful content AND huge map size, I’ll be pretty impressed.

Games always getting bigger imo isn’t a good thing. From my experience, it generally leads to less focus on core mechanics and structure because they are focusing on just keeping the player busy with busywork and scope. We’ll see how it turns out. Hopefully, it will be really good.

Fingers crossed they're available on console on release this time around

I played 10-15 hours of fallout 4 before kind of fading off, came back when mods were introduced to console and it felt so much better.... Just the ability to see the actual text of dialog choices was an amazing upgrade lol

Inon Zur?! Seems this guy composes for half the games that come out. Dude must work for peanuts.
Now, let’s hear more about space philosophy according to Horse Armor Todd.

Sounds like yet another open world game with lots of meaningless fat that doesn't respect the player's time. Red flag indeed.

i agree with other posters here, as long as it's filled with content, then great, but if it's just empty space then it doesn't need to be bigger than past games.

As other have mentioned, as long as it’s meaningful content then great!

Hopefully the story isn’t too philosophical, I usually don’t enjoy when games end with some kind of philosophical open ended ‘you decide what you think happens’ stuff.

The main plot of Fallout 4 made you ask all sorts of deep philosophical questions that changed you. Am I wasting my life away playing computer games made for and by idiots? Does this game disprove the existence of God because surely a God that cared would not have allowed this story to be written?

I wouldn't normally be overly excited by that news given Bethesda's game design philosophy....but knowing most of it will be procedurally generated resource mining nothingness makes me even less interested tbh.

You mean that same oblivion that used loads of procedurely generated content and literally put speed tree 🌳 on the map?
