A review is the subjective opinion of someone who experienced the product. For most people who have already played the game, many of them multiple times, this will like be a perfectly fine remaster of a game that is a bit outdated and a bit of a slog to get through for 4th or 5th time. A 6/10 seems perfectly reasonable to represent that feeling numerically.

What’s a joke are the reviews that are saying the remaster is underwhelming or that they are tired of this game but still giving the game an 8 or higher because they have their nose stuffed up ND’s ass.
The main point of this remake was to introduce the game in a modern coat of paint to new players who never played the The Last of Us before.

The HBO show is dropping early next year and it will probably drive more interest in TLOU games for new players. The only people complaining about this remake are people who already played the game which isn’t necessarily this games audience.

So if these reviewers were to bash the game for “being a unnecessary remake” I would think that’s a very biases standpoint and it shouldn’t be a factor in the scoring.

What does the $70 price have to do with anything?

All first party PS5 games are $70, that argument is getting so played out. It’s $10, get a second job if it’s that serious or wait for a sale lol

Don't really want to derail the thread with this.
So to each their own. If you want to spend hundreds of dollars constantly buying the same games then enjoy.

I think 89 is about right considering the cut factions and certain uncanny valley character models.

Dude...it's 89 on metacritic. You're making it sound like it's 10 points away.
"No way in hell" as in..."it's almost there"?

"Almost there" as in "not there"?

No, I'm not implying that it's like 10 points away. I'm just saying that it was obvious that it wouldnt get nowhere near the MC for Remastered or the original that some people were expecting (both at 95)

As I said, I bought the game, and I expected it to be good.

I was talking only about the MC score and not the quality of the final product

PS: ChiefDada ChiefDada , no RT reflections. Told you so.

so it got knocked for price in most of the reviews which was expected but wtf is this lol

reviewers really are a joke huh

What's so controversial about this write-up? The reviewer says its worth trying and is a good time if you have never played TLoU before, but hard to justify shelling $70 if you've completed the game once or twice before. Jeez, some of you people need to get a grip.

It's not about the score i wanted, i read the full review - it's about having some credibility and justification for the score given.

like this portion of what the review you linked says:

"The graphics are improved, there’s no question of that, but never to any significant degree. Like most remakes and remasters all they do is keep pace with your memories and if you’re not studying a comparison video at the time, you’d swear they hadn’t changed at all."

that's disingenuous unless you're blind

No it isn’t. I have felt that way since I started seeing videos of this game. The environments especially look like how I remember them. I don’t even think the remake looks better in every shot as characters like Tess and Ellie look completely different. Tess in this game looks like she on death’s door which is strange because I always felt she was supposed to appear able-bodied and mentally strong enough to smile in the face of apocalypse, a sort of good partner for Joel if he were to potentially start a new life with her.

Your response just shows that you lack of empathy and have trouble believing that someone else’s opinion may be quite different than yours. It honestly just sounds childish.

god, this is the last time i respond because i know what side of the fence you sit on with your bias.

It's not about the reasoning, its the reasoning matching the score given - clearly you read one response and your green lenses went on to defense mode.

if you watch that section, you will see him say that the Joel character model is the only upgrade. The rest, including the clothing and levels are roughly the same.

Joel is only playable for a few minutes in the intro of TLOU2. Both Abby and Ellie;s character model look on par with what we see here.

Against my better judgement I bought this but in reality it is the first game with some visual and some minor gameplay upgrades. They could have released a patch for the PS4 version and done the same thing.

What? This?

"A completely pointless remake of one of the best games of the last decade, except with only half the content and at double the price."

That's bullshit. The game isn't half the content or double the price.

Yeah, they need reviewers to make these kinds of comments though...or the messaging wont get back. Yes, it is hyperbole that its half the content but it is missing its multiplayer and I am sure the game did launch at like 35 pounds in the UK for the PS4 remaster.

I get that, but it's clear the models are pretty above and beyond what we have in the industry right now, like the facial animations are quite literally the best I've seen and judging the footage on my LG C1 alongside my PS5 playing TLOU II I personally see enough of a difference, however that is down to my personal view only.

The cinematics looks fantastic but the ambient occlusion on the gameplay is barely noticeable and makes the game look weird as fuck.

That's bullshit. The game isn't half the content or double the price. Typical hyperbole from that rag.
For what it's worth I've put waaay more time into the multiplayer than I did the story, and I did 5+ story playthroughs between platinuming both the PS3 and PS4 versions.

Sure it's hyperbole but that's how they get the message across that they don't like the value proposition for this release. I feel the same way so I am waiting for a discount.

Edit: Also, just quickly browsing through the review summaries on opencritic. Most reviewers share that sentiment to a certain degree.

Says who? You are not an arbiter. You are on the same level as me, you don’t get to decide who has credibility or not. If you want to participate, you can try providing some evidence to debate my points. Next time try telling someone what you think instead of what your favorite YouTuber thinks.

Agreed! Shit, with the tax here in NY, I've paid games day 1 at $65. So it felt like $70 for at least 2 generations lol.

I don't even like him, I don't watch his reviews.

But his review, of a game he didn't even really like, says something - he has the maturity to call it as it is.

It's at least a 9/10 single player game but it should be marked down for no multiplayer to an 8/10.

Elden ring is still goty for this far.

Reviews ended up where i expected.

It is the best way to play the last of us.

While it aint the best outcome in my opinion, its nice to have a version like this in the case of preservation and keeping the franchise accessable, even playing through the remaster there are elements from the PS3 era tech which is goss and distracting.

Agreed. I love TLOU and look forward to playing this upgraded (even if moderate) version at some point when I have a PS5 and it’s on sale or in the PS Plus Extra sub. Nice to have the option.

No, reviewers don't need to make bullshit comments. They need to make accurate statements. And the price I've seen for TLOU Remastered at release was $50 so I seriously doubt it was 35 pounds in the UK.

Yeah I guess when you get your game for free to review, product cost becomes irrelevant to the review.
Some (or probably most) reviewers think like this but some add a "value" scale that takes initial cost into consideration e.g. Switch Up

You sure did, although I beat you to it. It appears it was a ridiculously high resolution cubemap.

By definition, the reflection is NOT SSR. And if by chance it is a take on cubemap implementation, then it is a generational leap in quality and then some.

LOL yeah they're pretty ridiculous tbh. So pretentious. It's just so obvious that the relevant comparison is TLOU2.

Although you, myself, and many others here are more interested in PT. vs Pt.1 Remake comparisons, this is a remake for The Last of Us Pt.1, so no.

Why are they saying it's half the content of the last two releases?

I mean, I don't get it. LOU Remake was only 8 years ago and playable on PS5. Why do we need this? Why didn't they just up-res this for free?

It was £35 with rip off places like game trying to charge £40. Something happened this gen where its 70 dollars vs 70 pounds digital.

I've seen this at 59.99 cheapest for a disk copy. That's insane for what it is.

According to who exactly?

Value is more important than price and value is subjective. If you're not willing to pay the price of admission then either wait for a sale or move on.

Crying over nothing. If you want to elbe catered to based on price above all else then there are companies that are perfectly catering towards you, stick with them.
