PCGamer || Intel : 'We're definitely competitive or better than Nvidia with ray tracing hardware'; 'a card that's faster than the [RTX] 3060 at prices

Lol 🤣 @ competitive. .. were they able to get dirt 5 to run ? Last time I checked the game didn't even start on Intel drivers according to hardware unboxing ( or maybe it was similarly silly game/s like that I forgot
Hardware Unboxed did a video on the A750 and A770?
I thought no reviewers had them yet?

Cuz if reviewers have them they should be taking Intel to task on all this raytracing and AI tech they keep talking about.

I think it was about the A series
So not the A750 or A770?

The A380 is literally a bottom tier GPU, it might as well be the GT1030 of the A series lineup, so its not exactly shocking that some games just refuse to boot on it.
And yeah the drivers were half cooked for it.

I still havent seen any independent benchmarks of the A750 and A770.

Intels slides show they wanted the A7s to compete with RTX3060 - RTX3070.
If they can get in that range then they are indeed competitive.
If all the AI and RT tech theyve been talking about pans out, i want to see if they can make up the raster deficit simply by having really good RT.
The RT hit on their GPUs might not be as harsh as on AMD or even Nvidia.

Intel internally said they were targeting ~RTX3060Ti/RTX3070 with their top end card.

I dont think anyone was expecting RTX3080 levels of performance when everything reported on Arc prior to us even seeing the units was that their top was basically a midranger.

Assuming the A770 is spitting distance from the RTX3060Ti then they achieved what they wanted to achieve.
Just a little late cuz Ada is round the corner, had the A770 launched properly in 2021 it wouldnt look as dire as now knowing that RDNA3 and Ada are round the corner.

This is the leaked slide from early 2021:
830046b0-e0ce-497f-a413-273959e968c6.jpg

They were always aiming for SOC2 the small one to race GTX1650
And SOC1 A7 to race the RTX3060 - RTX3070

So who exactly are you implying was expecting anything more?

Go read the old threads. Folks' expectations were well out of line with reality.

The fact that we even had this information beforehand to level everyone's expectations is even worse. There were some real loons arguing unambiguously that Intel would eventually beat out Nvidia in desktop GPU perf.

You mean this one:

or this one:

or this one from 2019:

Since the very first rumors way back when we have pretty much known where Intel was aiming with their at the time DG2 GPUs.

The B, C and D series GPUs we have no idea how much performance they will have and near no leaks have come out for us to even guess where Intel wants to land.
But with the A series we have known basically 3 years before release that they were targeting RTX3060 levels of performance.

Remember that the leaks started before the RTX3060 came out so the only GPU Intel had to gauge against was the RTX3060Ti, which is why they were aiming there.
When RTX3060 came out, the amended slides came out showing that their big SOC was for RTX3060 - RTX3070 levels of price/performance.

Maybe another forum had a bunch of people speculating Intel would have an RTX3080+ level GPU but certainly not this forum.

But the architecture and drivers are the same. The only difference is the amount of units and memory.
The A380 reviews showed that Intel has a lot of problems with their drivers, and these will also manifest in the higher tier cards, until they are fixed.

What drivers will the A750 and A770 launch with?

I know that you mean to imply that Intel will fix their drivers, but the issues they have are too many to all be fixed in time for the newer cards.
Not only that, some of the fixes they are implementing are moronic. A good example is using a wrapper to simulate DX9 compatibility.
But the worst part is the constant delays of the launch of these cards.

You're looking at Intel for price relief?

They’re going to need to just like AMD did with their Ryzen CPUs to gain marketshare. If they gain a foothold, then we’ll see prices go up - just like AMD did with their Ryzen CPUs.

I’m rooting for Intel to at least put out a competitive product. I want them to do well, because a strong third player in the market is a good thing.

The DX9 mapping layer isnt really a fix, they just dont support DX9 natively because im guessing they figured well no one uses DX9 anymore.
Was that a dumb decision?
Absolutely.
SteamCharts shows that DX9 is still the most popular API, focusing on DX12 and Vulkan is a good idea both will only grow in utilization, but DX9 should have been natively supported as well.
Im not denying that, and dont know if that can be fixed with drivers.

Within 2 weeks of the GamersNexus video they had updated drivers, which fixed atleast 5 of the reported 40.....yeah 40 issues they had.
The major installer ones being the early fixes cuz it made the GPU basically useless.

We dont know the launch date of the A750 and A770 but if they are full steam ahead on driver fixes, they could theoretically launch with atleast the ability for independent testers to get useful information from the tests instead of the A380 situation where quite a lot of information gathered is practically useless.....other than the drivers are shit.

I trust Intel is going to keep working on their drivers. But there is still so much to do. It's going to take a long time to fix most issues.

Intel did start fixing bugs that GN found. But those are just the ones that GN found in a few days. Others have reported more bugs.

The last time, Intel was saying they were launching more Arch gpus in August. But August is over and no gpus...

Yes, I did and you're making shit up. Maybe a poster here and there, but nobody with a functioning brain thought this.

Make up your mind.

Either I'm making shit up and nobody thought this, or there were indeed a few posters as you clearly acknowledge that did post in this way.

Clearly critical thinking and logic is not your strong suit.

You said many on this forum posted that Intel would blow Nvidia and AMD away.

Ive gone through those old threads, Ive been in pretty much all of them.

Even going as far back as 2019 where people lambasted Intel completely.
Before the RTX3060 launched Intel could only gauge their performance versus the RTX3060Ti which is what they did internally and is what every single leak said way back when.
Naturally every thread based on those leaks also had that tempered approach.
I cant remember a single person posting Intel would have a 3090/6900XT class card, everyone was actually complaining that they are only aiming for the midrange.

You must be misremembering what many posters were posting or it was on another forum cuz here they were posting how useless the midrange is, or that Intel would fail outright.

Lol, yeah right.

You really went back through a number of multiple page threads worth of discussion to assess the content of every post... all to argue a meaningless point on a web forum.

If so you really need to get a day job.

Ohh you got me.
I can use the search feature.
DG2 threads arent exactly 1000 posts deep, you could scroll them in literally seconds.

Still doesnt help prove your point.
But i guess deflecting and veiled insults are your best bet at this point.

Be seeing ya!

Now I can tell you're lying... lol.

Otherwise, please, good sir, would you share what exactly you searched for? And why you don't seem to see the error in thinking you can find all the posts espousing a particular viewpoint across a group of threads by searching one or two keywords?

I would just stop digging right there if I was you.
