Is it? What does it do that makes it better? I kind of want to make the jump but wasn’t sure if there was a reason to do so
hows that? its pretty much the same as 10 in the backend. the front end got a lot of tweaks. HDR maybe works a tad better... maybe..
It's faster at everything that I tried than Win 10, plus auto HDR working flawless (as far as I can tell).

Maybe I´ll upgrade someday but I have to give it time for tools and workarounds to stop microsoft from using my own hardware to continously scan and telemetry my ass for their own benefit.

Windows 11 is awful, it requires internet to install and a MS account. You no longer own your computer with it due to this drm.
nah connect your pc pre install to an ethernet cable.. then click next,, jank it out afterwards... no log in !

I finally upgraded simply for the auto hdr feature cause Destiny 2's hdr is completely busted and so far its been worth it for that alone.

Might try it some day. My computer begs me to upgrade at least one a month but so far I'm still fine with Windows 10.

Just to install or always?
Windows 10 also asked me for a windows account when installing but then I could quickly swap it for a local account.

Will only upgrade when I build another PC.
For now, Win10 is fine and I dont want to chance it.

<----Will probably upgrade as soon as RPL hits the streets.

Not that i'm going to upgrde but is there an option of a free upgrade like they did with Windows 10?

Yes, if you aren't forced into the upgrade you can upgrade for free, for now.

As soon as I upgraded to w11 I was logged out, a knock on my door followed, and a man in a suit barged in unannounced and just grabbed my pc right off my desk.

I sent an email but still no response after 3 weeks, tad ridiculous if I'm being honest.

Wait, you can't send an Email if your PC was stolen, got ya.

I had a 10% fps drop when i tried it.
So fuck no

If true Win 11 may be more resource intensive.

Barely? Almost all games and emulators in years have DX12/Vulkan renderer...

Cherry picking. If you go to steam and pull new games main list everything is dx9, dx10 or dx11:

You can pull another 10, 100, or 1000 of the latest games...does not change anything, they will be mostly dx9,10,or 11.

Ok, but why Dx12 on AA and indie games that run on potatos? To run at 500fps instead of 450?

That´s the same paradigm that will slow down dx storage adoption. Look, I´m not even saying that it´s not a good feature to have, but we must be realistic about how much time is gonna take devs to bother with it and how much of an improvement is actually gonna be in real games. Look at the DF Tom Petersen interview, we know that accelerated decompression is a critical part of direct storage, but he hints that the whole thing is in Limbo until MS and the industry work out some standards, like a codec.

Higher than expected. For me, I'm going to use Windows 10 until its no longer supported, and/or MS no longer supporting it with the latest DirectX feature sets.

Want to avoid as much DRM for as long as possible..

I'm using it and I hate it. Windows is slowly turning into something truly awful. Started with 8 and we clawed a little bit of goodness back with 10 but with 11 the steamroll ahead to cancer continues. Give me one good fucking reason why right clicking the taskbar now only shows "Taskbar settings" instead of the plethora of useful options and shortcuts it had before. Or how about how when you press Windows key while playing a borderless windowed game, clicking icons in the task tray immediately close the taskbar and return you to the game when it didn't do this on 10. Or how about that god awful ribbon bar in File Explorer making folder navigation super slow when dealing with lots of media files. The list goes on and on for dumb fucking changes they've made to this OS, with more to come (like this absolutely stupid change to Task Manager which is CLEARLY being done for tablet users: ) that are completely anti-desktop user experience and I'm sick and tired of seeing it.

I'm still on Win 10.

the Android implementation isn't out yet and that's the only really interesting feature for me.
using android emulators is annoying and having an embedded and easy to use Emulator would be a reason for me to switch over.

Not necessarily. Maybe because the potato PS4/XBO hardware and parity, DX11 and quad cores CPUs were "enough" all past years. Now PS5/XBSX are not so weak so DX12U/Vulkan can finally be needed.

I’m still rocking Win ‘95….waiting for Kings Quest IV to finish downloading from floppy as we speak.

You mean you forgot to rewind the tape because you couldn't afford a floppy drive.

Considering how outdated the Jaguar APUS are this is likely.

TPM 2.0 will be a disaster when it's widely adopted. Once publishers start using it for DRM, it will make modding much harder, since it allows for cryptographically signed binaries/data, secured from the BIOS level up. You could argue it's worth it to have a locked down environment like consoles so you don't have cheaters in online games, but is that worth killing off modding? Piracy also gets more difficult when the OS refuses to run modified binaries. The PC ecosystem is going to look very different in 10 years time.

Windows 11 has been heavily favored and quickly adopted by PC gamers, and the best part is, it's mostly organic and they didn't have to pull a windows 10 and force updates on people who didn't want it, giving them choice and freedom just like they promised and definitely didn't lie about, Auto HDR is coming soon which will add more sass to the games graphics and colors, deeper hues can really make the colors vibrant.

I will say it's pretty impressive growth, I'm assuming at least half this board has already been forced moved to upgrade to Windows 11 so they can enjoy the many benefits and features that Windows 10 doesn't have that are more beneficial to the gaming community.

Have you made the upgrade? What do you like most about Windows 11 gaming?
Not good. Windows needs to die, down with proprietary software!

That would be so shitty. I hop not. Any pc maker trying to ship it off by default wouldnt be able to have win11 preinstalled, so the groundwork to railroad it is already there.

I just don’t see what I have to gain by risking an update to W11. If it ain’t broken then it is good enough for usage.

It was mentioned by a couple devs that the reason they were not using dx12 was because it was broken or incomplete a few years ago, not everyone had 4 ghz 8 thread cpu´s right, and by the Petersen interview above it seems dx storage is also missing some foundations on PC at the time. I don´t expect dx storage to shine any time soon on PC, MS must have like 3 people working on the PC side of things (hdr never worked well under windows 10 for example).

It took some getting used to the few UI changes but it's not that big a transition from 10.

I still don't understand why I can't move the taskbar to another monitor without changing the primary one. Talk about no respect for OLED users.

However, the upgrade process was insanely easy and I did very little reinstalls of everything I had from Win10. Most of my settings were surprisingly intact, for all my applications.

To be fair, I'm not a power user by any means so I may not notice some under the hood tinkering. However, I think a majority of users will find 11 to be fine.

I just recently updated to Windows 10 21H2, when MS deployed it for everyone (6-9 months after its initial release).
Will probably run Win10 to 2025 at least.

I see little reason to jump through all these hoops just for Windows 10.1. What is it you actually gain? Best case scenario is everything works as it already does and nothing breaks.

In before "I still use Windows 7".
I still have a PC with partitions for XP, Vista and 7.
Have only booted it recently to test if DVI to HDMI works via a HDMI to DVI adapter, ie. in reverse (it does, sort of). So not actually using it.
My small, newer PC is running 10 and reminds me to switch to glorious 11.

You mean Windows 10.5? On a serious note, if they don't want me to upgrade because my "requirements" are not met, I am more than okay with that.

I tired it, pretty awful for me. I don't just use my.PC for gaming. As a power user it's all over the damn place.

So you want all the computers to run Mountain Lion instead lol? Because Linux is never going to take off mainstream.

I recently did a comparison with some old laptops I have, and the difference between Windows 8 and 8.1 does seem to be larger for Windows 10 to WIndows 11, outside some media stuff.

I would gladly give it a try, but my CPU is unsupported, i don't know if there's a way to bypass all the requeriments.
So, for now i'm stuck with 10. No complains so far.
