PlayStation: Xbox's Call of Duty offer was "inadequate on many levels"

I don't see it. He's basically just confirmed everything Phil already said. Only difference is he's bitching and calling it "inadequate." That's literally all that's happened. MS isn't lying to anyone in the middle of a large acquisition reviewed by governments around the world. People here just can't read.

This is what Phil wrote in the blog the day after they were questioned by UK regulators:
https://blogs.microsoft.com/on-the-issues/2022/09/01/gaming-everyone-everywhere/
We’ve heard that this deal might take franchises like Call of Duty away from the places where people currently play them. That’s why, as we’ve said before, we are committed to making the same version of Call of Duty available on PlayStation on the same day the game launches elsewhere. We will continue to enable people to play with each other across platforms and across devices. We know players benefit from this approach because we’ve done it with Minecraft, which continues to be available on multiple platforms and has expanded to even more since Mojang joined Microsoft in 2014.

He basically suggested this would be like Minecraft when actually they had already decided months ago, before the deal was closed, when they would make COD exclusive.
Regulators won't like this 👀 :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Why are people "B-but Sony has timed exclusives!" in here? Shut the fuck up already, MS has timed exclusives as well.
Remember that "timed" FFVII Remake exclusive that became permanently exclusive?

Hell, they even advertised it on the box of the PS4 version.

Why are people deflecting from Sony paying franchises to stay off Xbox for entire generations and beyond by calling it "timed exclusives"? There's nothing timed about FF7R or SF5, among many others.

You're right it's not comparable, it's fucking worse! First party games being exclusive is the industry norm, third party games less so. If anything, Phil is being exceedingly generous here.

I'm glad Jim aired Phill out with class.

Microsoft buying all these devs reminds me of when they bought Nokia.

And how Nokia business went completely down the drain afterwards. I look forward to seeing how games look when they are developed to be on gamepass day one and still need to be profitable.

Like I said, you can't read.

I think they will always keep it multiplatform. This is about signing a specific deal legally committing them for 3 years. In 3 years they'll sign another. You don't sign a deal forever like some moron. That's not how the real world works. They're not lying about putting Call of Duty on other systems you loaf.

How so? Now Final Fantasy isn't a major franchise?
It doesn't fit his narrative. I hope this gives MS the push to expose all of Sony's bs keep away tactics and price gouging. If Jim isn't careful, this is going to backfire spectacularly.

If you think having 2 final fantasy games exclusive is the same as buying a huge ass publisher that has the biggest yearly game out there you can apply that gif tou you lmao
That's besides the point though. Obviously everyone understands the Activision deal is much bigger, but the same principle remains: there's no reason why MS must take PS gamers into account when Sony clearly doesn't care about Xbox gamers when they throw money at exclusives.

Ideally, every single game is multiplatform and we can just choose our consoles on other factors such as service or hardware but nobody seems to like this fantasy world of mine.

Hahah…Sony literally shitting their pants. They probably imagined that ms will be forced to give cod to Sony in perpetuity because we are playstation, market leader and we simply have to be given what we want. We control the market and we set the rules. And then the reality hits, ms doesn’t give a fuck about Sony position, they can afford things that Sony cannot. Reality is that Sony have much more close ecosystem than ms, limiting players, requiring them to buy ps5 to play Sony exclusives. They bought deathloop and ghost wire and we’re rumoured to be making bids for starfield exclusivity as well.

If Sony doesn’t like the deal, that’s fine, Microsoft can withdraw it and make cod exclusive straight after the current Sony deal expires without any additional years.

MS did the same with Titanfall after Vince Zempella said he wanted PS4 gamers to experience the game that fall implying a six month timed exclusive period.

Regardless, If MS can afford to spend $8 billion on Zenimax and $70 billion on Activision, they should not have allowed themselves to get outbid by Sony for games like FF7 and FF16. Peter Moore went out and got GTA4 and FF13 back in 2006. Trust me, he had to pay up to either match or exceed was Sony was offering.

Didn't the PC version come out a few months after that date?

They should have publicly called out SQEX and said they were inadequate and whined on blogs about it.

Don't pass gaas, it is your Destiny!

I bet you're typing these responses from Sony's very successful line of VAIO laptops...

This won't look good for Microsoft. Call of Duty is something else for gamers. It's not like God of War or something. There are people just buys a console for Cod or Fifa alone. You can't just take away something from these people and look gamer friendly at the same time. 3 years is bullshit. Hide your Starfield where ever you want, but you can't/shouldn't make Cod an exclusive game.

I'm a Pc gamer so I don't care that much about it, in case you think I'm crying next to my Ps 5 lol. Fck them if they make it Xbox only though:)

I dont understand how people cant differentiate between buying a whole ass publisher and buying a few timed. third party exclusives.
You mean like Insomniac in August 2019 or Savage Game Studios just 2 weeks ago? You mean like every other able company can do? How come before this acquisition no one had issues with Sony buying and making those games exclusive to Sony along with people on the internet bragging about “exclusives” that are not on PC. Now the tables turned and Sony is following what MS saw years ago they got ridiculed about with releasing on PC. Jim has no position to say anything and MS gave Sony a deal they didn’t have to do for the next 3 years.

Microsoft has promised to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation for three years beyond the current agreement between Activision and Sony, says PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan.

In a statement provided to GamesIndustry.biz, Ryan says the offer was "inadequate on many levels".

Well, Jimmy you better then play nice with your exclusives like FF 7 and 16, Spiderman, Wolverine.......can't have it both ways. You want COD then prepare to give a little.

BTW, Phil can't really do or say much as they don't even own Activision yet.

Think you underestimate how popular COD is to non-GAF lol

All I ever deal with in terms of general public is FIFA and COD players

I absolutely understand the popularity of these franchises. A hypothetical transition to Xbox exclusivity would hurt both Microsoft and Sony.

They'll be owned by Microsoft money ain't gonna be an issue.

Well hypothetically it's the same COD teams and Microsoft has infinite money to fund the cinematic campaigns and high end graphics.

Why do people always say this nonsense? Money is ALWAYS an issue because not even the richest companies have an infinite supply of it.

Also Microsoft will just let them do what they've been doing just like Bethesda. It will also attract PS over to Xbox or PC COD is bigger than the platforms its on.

This is a reasonable theory, but history doesn't support this hypothesis. Remember, CoD was originally an Xbox centric title. Consumers flocked to Playstation because of the strength of their first party franchises, which allowed Sony to strike favorable exclusivity deals with 3rd party publishers. Your assumption would be more compelling if the underlying cause and effect were the other way around.

You do know MS is a 2 trillion dollar company and COD is available on mobile, consoles and PC. It not being on PS anything is NOT an issue. Come on brah

You understand market valuation has absolutely no bearing on the actual liquidity a company has to apply towards project budgets, right?

1-MS has not had temporary exclusives for AAA franchises with an impact on the sale of consoles for 8 years. From Tom Raider and all of us we remember the mobilization against that we never saw in the Sony cases.

2- Sony has squeezed its position of dominance to take over large AAA thirds that would be multiplatform. Pay to remove content and major franchises from the reach of Xbox console users.

3- Exclusivities from 1 to up to more than 3 years. The latest Xbox ones are only 3-6 months old and for Indi or AA titles.

Is the same situation for you?

You really do not think that the Xbox user can have reasons to feel annoyed?

Jimbo spat the dummy out. Time for Sony 1st party to get the finger out and actually make decent multiplayer titles. Hopefully factions 2 will be amazing

Nothing stops SE now from releasing it on Xbox. It's their decision, not Sony's. Just like it was with MGS 4, FF XIII, Ni No Kuni and many more japanese games.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
we all know microsoft will eventually pull call of duty off PS platforms. its the main reason why they bought them. to have control of the call of duty ip.

MS bought activision for King.

They are going out of their way to offer CoD, which will become a first party game, to a rival platform for a number of years.

Jim is just being incredibly greedy.

Sony bought Bungie and confirmed all existing and new Bungie games to be released on Xbox, even without any regulatory pressure.

Where did they mention Xbox specifically ? Please don't post any vague statements, post exactly where they said Xbox since you seem confident.
