The first thing I notice is Saints Row PS5 was selling like wildfire. Number 2 in the US only behind American's biggest sporting event NFL Football, with Madden 23, and number 1 across the EU countries. Saints Row will be selling several million for sure, probably won't reach Saints Row 3 sales but it may get close. On the PS4, Saints Row is number 5 on the US chart, indicating good sales there too, but it did not chart on the EU chart for the PS4 strangely.

On PS5 GTA V is still selling strong with number 3 in the US and number 2 just behind Saints Row in the Eu.

Madden NFL surprisingly charted number 10 on the EU PS5 charts. NFL did expand viewership in Europe and released their NFL Gamepass service in more countries so there's interest in Europe in the sport but still a surprise. On PS4, Madden was the number one game in the US. Where Fifa was of course number 1 in the EU.

Surprisingly, Gran Turismo 7 is number 8 on the PS5 US charts, but number 9 on the EU charts, that's a franchise that's usually strong with long legs in the EU. I wonder what's going on there.

Stray is the 5th biggest game on the US and EU PS5 charts. On PS4 it's 6th in the US, and still 5 in the EU. Marketing can get people to play anything these days.

On PS4, Minecraft is replacing GTA V of the PS5 by being number 2 for both the US and EU charts.

PSVR software sales are not too high, so it's not surprising the best selling VR game Beat Saber, is the number one title downloaded for the headset. What surprises me is that number 2 and 3 are Job Simulator and Arizona Sunshine. Those don't sound like games gamers would play and yet their they are.

Multiverse and Rumbleverse dominate the US and EU free 2 play charts, with Fall Guys and Fornite bringing up the rear.

Really makes you wish they'd attach unit counts to these lists, doesn't it? I want to know if Beat Saber (#1 VR Game in US) outsold Sekiro (#20 US PS4 game) last month.

Btw, Arizona Sunshine is great, but it's from 2017. I can't imagine it was THAT high-budget, so why haven't there been more copycats? Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners is similar-ish and hands-down my favorite VR game (including Half Life: Alyx, which would win the "objective" best VR game in terms of polish), so my guess as to why Saints and Sinners it isn't charting is that it was a free PS Plus game back in November 2021.

Job Simulator appeals to exact same audience as Beat Saber - it's low barrier of entry and sells what VR is all about. Not nearly as well as BS - but it's been among the most popular VR titles pretty much since this VR 'gen' started 6 years ago (and yes - we're still in 1st gen - I don't care what Facebook says).
Arizona Sunshine on the other hand - is a Zombie Shooter so it's precisely the type of game 'gamers' would play.

It's weird how that top 5 is identical across continents and largely stays the same month-on-month too though. It's not like any of those games is even recent.

Not very strange given the software sales for the PSVR. It was discussed in another thread but they are pretty poor given the over 5 million sales claimed by Sony. Beats Saber was always a top seller on the lists but it sold much less than Quest and PCVR so I'm curious if Beat Saber sold a million on PSVR yet, and everything else on PSVR has to have sold quite a bit less than Beat Saber.

I'd expect that the games pushed in PSVR owners face the most, or that are most popular with other headsets, are likely the games consumers are most interested in across the board US and EU, and may be why the first several VR games have the same ranking in both regions.

it may be the sales numbers, Sony has been dodging games sales on PSVR for a long time now. They actually dropped sales ver early on compared to other headsets and only reported numbers for headsets sold, but after the 5 million announcement they haven't reported on those either.

I'm curious why they will take another more expensive chance with PSVR2, they must think they have something to attract not just headset sales, but more software sales.

You have to figure the tail on good VR games' sales is loooooong. At least five years long, in Arizona Sunshine's case. Yet, even with that being the case, it must not be a very appealing proposition for developers and publishers to take on. That's why I want to see those numbers!

I can't wait for Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners Chapter 2, is what I guess I'm saying lol

Glad to see TLOU 2 continues to sell well. It has been in far more of these top monthly sales charts since release than it hasn't. Also nice to see so many new indie games make the top 20 on PS5 in August. There were a lot of really good ones last month.

I think he is just commenting on the fact that EU is lower than the US. Didn't say anything about the actual position in the charts.
You only need to look at what's ahead of it in both regions to see why that is. EU had two F1 games ahead of it while neither of those are present in the US charts hence why GT7 is lower in EU.

How the hell is gta 5 still selling like this? Since the list is most downloaded is there a chance just people redownloading this game after deleting to replay?

That's one factor but that's a different topic to you misreading his comment and taking it to mean it wasn't performing well.

This chart is new purchases and always has been. It doesn't count people downloading games they already owned.

I mean regardless he was questioning why it doesn't have its usual legs when it was still in the top 10 at near full price. That is legs no matter how you look at it.

Thats nuts then, everyone and their mother has gta. Maybe its young kids playing games going into their teen years and moving on to more mature games. Like going from roblox -> fornite -> gta?

Even if Saints Row is number one I can't really tell if it did crazy numbers since it is simply ahead of gtaV on the charts.

I was wondering why FIFA 22 was so low until I saw it was the PS5 chart and it had topped the PS4 chart. Casuals and enthusiasts don't buy the same things obviously.

Smart move to release Saints Row during this month when there were no significant new releases. Underserved sales though due to it being trash quality.

Arizona Sunshine did pretty well on other VR platforms (and there are many similar games i.e after the fall) so possibly they are seeing this game streamed and trying it on the platform they have access too. The Dev for that is currently making Hell Sweeper which looks interesting. You will see all these probably get ported to the psvr2 once the devs don't have to deal with the god awful move controllers anymore.

Horizon Forbidden West outselling Elden Ring with no bundles? B..but...no one wants that game? Gaf told me!

And TLOU2 top 10 in both Europe and USA 2 years after release? But I heard it was frontloaded and no one cares anymore? How come there's no other PlayStation exclusive ahead of it? I don't understand these numbers!

Thinks buying more servers can fix a bad patch
I agree with the general accessment. The fact that the top PSVR games chart has barely changed for the past few years really illustrates the drastic drought that it has been facing, and that it is not the VR savior everyone’s been proclaiming here in the earlier years (Meta Quest and Quest 2 is).

It’s a shame they segregated the lists. Was really interested to see how the f2p games fair directly against premium.

I dont know what games I expect to be in these charts, but it's never those.

Man, we are so removed to what the general public actually buy on these boxes.

To the Europeans out there - do you have friends that enjoy NFL? Surprised to see it in 10th place.

Lmao. GTAV in the top 3 of anything that isn't free to play or VR. That fucking game has enough legs to travel to the ends of the universe.

I'm not sure where you're getting this(or how it would be relevant at all) - but sales weren't reported by any VR company for first couple of years (with good reasons - Rift in particular bombed worse out of the gate than was generally known). FB shared first Quest numbers only once they finally found success - but that's not retroactively changing the first 5 years of nothing, and none of the holders report unit sales for individual SW either way - we only get those from pubs/devs themselves on rare occasion.

Beats Saber was always a top seller on the lists but it sold much less than Quest and PCVR so I'm curious if Beat Saber sold a million on PSVR yet
Given the last reported total number for BS was 2M - PSVR doing half of that would have been pretty big.

and everything else on PSVR has to have sold quite a bit less than Beat Saber.
That I'm actually not sure about. Job Simulator has been in top 5 for practically the entire time since launch - even if it never peaked as high at launch as BS - it's been selling consistently for a really long time, and at like half price of BS.
Price variety skews things as well - some full priced games would generate revenue of BS at 1M with like 1/3rd the unit sales, and even less compared to Job Simulator. There were launch titles that shot past 100k(units) at that price point for instance in first 3 months on the market, so who knows where they are 6 years in.
And then there's 'not-VR exclusive' outliers that have really broad reach on PSVR (RE7 has over 1M reported VR players, which puts it right up there with the best sellers on the platform in units, and completely blows everything away in Revenue).

Sony was reporting several metrics up front and stopped, this is something they usually do when projects seem to start well and then things go south from what they anticipated, this happened with other add-on accessories as well such as Move and that storytime thing.

Given the last reported total number for BS was 2M - PSVR doing half of that would have been pretty big.

The last reported total fo Beat Saber was 4 million

https://www.thegamer.com/beat-saber-sold-over-4-million-copies/

It had over $100 million in sales on the Quest 2 platform below.

When it was announced at 2 million sold it was across PC VR, Quest, PSVR, and SteamVR.

The chances of PSVR having 1 million sales of Beat Saber is close to zero, and if they did SOny likely would have said something given that they are about to try PSVR again with PSVR2 and that could have been an announcement to help give that project momentum. Of course it's not releasing until 2023 which may have it's own problems.

Several games have charted on the VR charts per their monthly report but that doesn't mean those sold very well, it just means they sold well relative to the other games charting that weak. The chances of BS hitting 1 million on PSVR is slim, and it's most likely the best selling game on the platform, I highly doubt anything is close based on the domination of BS on the PSVR charts even when it wasn't number one.

PCVR has always had the software sales compared to others outside of the early mobile VR boom and then that was taken over by Quest, and now the Quest 2 which also has the user base of over 10 million sold. Meanwhile Sony announced PSVR crossed 5 million in Jan 2020, which was for sales ending in 2019 and we haven't heard a peep since.

I remember when Sony was expected to ship 6 million PSVR's years ago https://wccftech.com/sony-ship-6-million-playstation-vr-htc-oculus/

I don't know how much they ended up shipping, but I wonder how much of the 5 million sales were stock they had sitting in warehouses and pushed out and weren't new shipments.
