Forgot about spidey 2, i wonder if it will still make 23, if it does its the saving grace for that year for sony, not a fan of the other games.
those are all Square Enix games anyway.. Nearly all of them look cross gen anyway so they are next gen by name only.

What I want to see from Sony are first party next gen games like Spidey 2. I think Sony needs to show something in september that looks more impressive than what we've seen from the three SE games. I like them all and will play them all, but i want to see what the PS5 can do. I want to see Avatar and Matrix quality visual fidelity.

I think Starfield will sell better than every SE game but will fall short of Spidey 2. Redfall will be forgotten like all arkane games. No one knows how much deathloop sold. it wasnt even in the top 20 in NPD. Forza will sell to the forza faithful. MS needs to bring hellblade 2 and at least one heavy hitter like avowed, perfect dark or fable if they want to make a dent worldwide. Starfield will help them in the US but they are already outselling the PS5 here.

But Sony definitely needs more western games next year. I suspect Spidey 2 and FF7-2 get delayed to 2024 so they better have something else from their western studios. Factions or MGS remake from Bluepoint will help, but taking on Starfield with three japanese action RPGs is not really going to help them with the American market. They will sell gangbusters worldwide though.

Regardless, next year we will find out just how much Starfield or rather Bethesda is worth. It will probably be the 2nd or 3rd best selling game of the year behind the yearly cod but can it beat Spiderman? Will it help MS steal users from Playstation or will the Playstation faithful stick with sony and settle for two FF games and Spidey? TBH, i could go either way. Starfield looks amazing and a perfect game for the western audience. Scifi, shooter, set in space, by Bethesda, you cant get any better, but if that perfect storm isnt enough for MS to steal Playstation's userbase then they will HAVE to make CoD exclusive. But if it does then sony better have their own Scifi RPG shooter in the works.

I dont care how much they sell I care about fun good games.

Interesting points from a business perspective though.

I think Starfield will be at least as good as fallout 4, i dont see any more reason to doubt them then a dev like insomniac. Overall I think Bethesda have a better track record, they certainly have more iconic genre defining games.

Starfield will sell more because its also on PC, not that it really matters.

I think 2023 is when xbox will continue strengthen its userbase but its games line up will be competitive.
You may not like redfall and I might not final fantasy, but we can recognise that they are good games and do have there following. Forza, redfall and starfield is a pretty diverse and killer line up more suiting to american tastes, sonys is more Japanese with the exception of Spidey of course.

I want sony to do what they do best and make more great cinematic story games, I think expanding with GAS games is not the best idea for them.

Whats so outlandish in what I said?

I think sony only have forspoken so far.

And a final fantasy game..

Agreed. They've got a ton of studios now, they all will start to turnout finished products sooner than later. It's just a matter of time.

Mario 64 as a showcase game is that on a technical level in was incredibly basic other than the polygon resolution, and was made up of flat shaded simple polygons
It was a quite wide (in terms of open areas and draw distance, you need to compare it more to a Spyro on PS1 or similar 3D platformer on PC, cannot compare it with PS2) platformer and perspectively correct textured too (with bilinear filtering and mip mapping) at a time where not everyone on PC had a 3dfx Voodoo or similar accelerator. Also some added effects that for the time were not quite bad (not just the water which was pleasing, I am thinking more about Metal Mario and some of the particle effects).

Not sure where you are taking the made up of only flat shaded polygons bit from… but yes it was the gameplay of a launch title people were singing the praises of, but it was a looker too.

it looked nice, but was graphically lacking in complexity and technical features. and the public noticed.

Although in America you had a large amount of SNES fans that went straight to the N64, something that didn't happen anywhere else so to them it was assuredly an amazing and novel experience.

But, like SMW on the SNES it wasn't really a showcase game. I feel there were better representations of N64 hardware a bit later.

Sony and MS seem to be the opposite when it comes to the expected stock situation this holiday. Sony paying higher prices to secure more chips? or the redesign probably helping them to secure more?

This PS5 Costco bundle in Canada has been available for almost 2 weeks straight whereas typical PS5 and Series X bundles sell out fast in a day or two. Either Costco got a shit load of shipments of it, or people arent buying PS5s like before.

Still available. Here's a snapshot I just did.

Don't you need a Costco membership first though? That's what I hear. We have a Costco here but never shopped there. Have friends who do and tell me they have a membership. But I'm not sure if you're allowed to buy without one. Haven't asked.

people usually don't look at costco as the place to buy consoles and its also hella expensive, these bundles need to stop.

Maybe time has altered your view of the game but when it came out it was truly a showcase game. It was THE killer launch title for the console and although maybe the graphics were eclipsed later in the gen (aren't they always though!) it was still a very good looking game for it's time and better looking than other launch window titles such as Pilotwings and Body Harvest with Shadows of the Empire being the exception imo. Mario64 established the standard for 3D platformers at a time when everyone else was having problems with implementing 3D cameras as they moved on from 2D. Mario64 made the 3D camera control feel effortless and it just worked. The way that you could run Mario around in circles, accurately triple jump or butt stomp where you wanted and there was the wall jumping up obstacles that together gave an incredible feeling of freedom of movement that nothing else matched for a long time. Other 3D third person games had difficulty for years afterwards trying to replicate the feeling of Mario64 and were plagued with problems like getting the camera stuck behind an object, clipping and just generally following the main character. Even today the game still feels smooth and very playable and although the graphics have aged badly the gameplay is still totally relevant unlike other classics such as Goldeneye or Turok.

Edit: sorry for going off topic, just wanted to stick up for my boy Mario from that outrageous shade being thrown.

They were eclipsed the same year by the two franchises on the competitors machine, you can read the stories about the E3 at the time, and that's only staying on consoles not touching PC.

The press made the games impression seem like it reached farther than it did, and the N64 sales as well as the sales of the game indisputably show this as it was being outsold by large margins until the sequels for the other two franchises came out and then went back to outselling Mario 64 by a large margin, the slow game output was very beneficial to Mario 64's sales.

It was a good game to introduce the N64 but they should have had more technically impressive games ready too. It's not a bad looking game but it had a very short-term wow factor that wore off for most gamers worldwide which can be seen by what direction they went in after it came out. It was mainly SNES NA fans that were buying N64's because of Mario 64 and much of the early online press that were pushing Ultra 64 and grudgingly were reviewing Saturn and PSX games until the Nintendo console came out.

everyone else was having problems with implementing 3D cameras as they moved on from 2D.

So now you're moving away from graphics into cameras which I find curious. But even this is inaccurate, Mario 64 was also struggling with 3D camera, the only 3D games with functioning cameras were on PC at the time. People who believe Mario 64 introduced a "good" camera don't make sense to me, it was and still is poor and had numerous problems. I think there were 4 modes which wouldn't be needed if they had the camera figured out but they didn't, and they knew certain stages would have problems with some camera modes than others. The camera was one of the biggest complaints of the game at the time.

But that has nothing to do with graphics anyway.

Mario64 made the 3D camera control feel effortless and it just worked.

This may be one of the most common gaming revisions out there.

Other 3D third person games had difficulty for years afterwards trying to replicate the feeling of Mario64 and were plagued with problems like getting the camera stuck behind an object,

You mean the same problem Mario 64 had when the camera got stuck behind objects? We've come along way from the topic of graphics, now we are talking about cameras, and revisionist history about third person games.

Edit: sorry for going off topic, just wanted to stick up for my boy Mario from that outrageous shade being thrown.

Wasn't really any shade thrown, you went on a topic that had nothing to do with the discussion.

Back to GRAPHICS, I didn't say Mario 64 was bad graphics at the time, but even the graphics were clean but simple, Mario himself was flat shaded, many of the environments were lacking detail, some of the textured walls or ground were basically just repeats of the same texture across, there wasn't much variation, and outside of enemies much of the game was still and not animated.

I feel they could have led with a better looking game, I know Mario was the mascot but for many people it was lacking for a game coming out of this delayed SGI machine. It's also part of the reason why it hasn't aged well, though the simple visual style does give it an advantage in again than other N64 games.
