Xbox players need to realize that JRPG developers (and by extension, the rest of japan) do NOT care about Xbox.

The Xbox Series X/S have sold a combined total of over 200k sales in Japan.
The PlayStation 5 in comparison has sold 1.6 million, and the Nintendo Switch unsurprisingly comes in at a whopping 24 million across all 3 units available.
The Xbox hasn't even sold a quarter of how much the PlayStation sold and hasn't even sold 1/100th of how much the Switch has sold.

Now.... tell me, Xbox fanboys. How can it possibly be MONEYHATTING of all things that's preventing games like Octopath Traveler 2 or Disgaea 6/7 to come to Xbox? Do you honestly believe that Sony money hats every single god damn video game on planet earth? You think they have the money to even do that? Why would they even money hat a title as insignificant as Octopath Traveler, where the first game only sold like what, 3 million? Why do you think Japanese developers only bother when the prospect of Game Pass comes up? It's because XBOX PLAYERS DO NOT GIVE A FLYING FUCK ABOUT JRPGs. They almost ALWAYS sell like shit on the platform. What's the point of 'maximizing sales' when the money spent creating the port would eclipse the actual return you get in sales? If you want Japanese games, buy the god damn Japanese consoles.

And it's all because 'Xbox isn't popular in Japan' Well no duh, but they had something good going with the 360 where they were able to consistently get Japanese developers to put games on their platform. Also, Apple's managed to easily make the iPhone the most popular god damn device in Japan, and Microsoft have clearly made a popular Japanese product in the past (Windows) so if after 20 years they still haven't found a way to make Xbox at the very least as popular as PlayStation in Japan... that's on them. Phil needs to take some notes from Apple and learn to make a product the Japanese like. Only then, will Xbox become more than an afterthought for companies like Square Enix and Nippon Ichi Software. Even then, I highly doubt that's going to fix the clear lack of interest towards JRPGs on the Xbox side. You're just gonna have to find a way to get your Xbox friends interested in Octopath (it'll be a cold day in hell before that happens.... lol)

Over 300k, almost 400k.

JRPGS have nothing to do with Xbox sales in Japan, the issue with Jrpgs on Xbox is that Xbox players whether they are fans or gravitated toward the systems otherwise, don't usually buy Jrpgs. FF excluded, Xbox has had Jrpgs since the original Xbox, exclusives even, even on 360 and Xbox One, people don't buy them, Xbox has and will be a W/CRPG and Action west (souls games excluded which are influenced by west) RPG brand.

If you want to play NIS games then you get a Wii U/Switch or a PS4/5.

You're acting like this is a PSA and a bunch of Xbox players are mad, when it's just a small minority.

But Xbox still gets most of the relevant Jrpgs anyway, the middling and smaller studio stuff doesn't really add anything. That's why the FF moneyhat is such a big deal because it's the MOST relevant Jrpg on home consoles.

Xbox fans have been vocal about getting RPGs, which is why Xbox is getting Persona 3-5. Last year, at TGS, Phil Spencer announced he's brining more Japanese games to Xbox. And since last gen, consoles have the same processor so it's much easier to port games from PS to Xbox.

You do realize Japanese games sell in countries outside of Japan right?

Yes but japanese developers cater to Japan first and foremost, and all other countries are secondary. If 2 platforms are doing well in japan and the other is floundering what does it matter if the other one does well in the US?

Do you really think those game would be marketed with X console exclusive if they weren't moneyhatted? You can bet they know it won't come elsewhere because they paid for it.

Because a large portion of sales occur outside Japan. Are you saying developers don’t make games to earn money?

If this was 15 years ago, I would care.

90% of JRPGS today are trash. It's the hard truth many people don't want to admit.

And before anyone says I'm hating, JRPGs were the only genre I would buy without question in the 90's and early 2000's. Anything that had the Squaresoft logo was automatically on my radar. They just haven't aged well and most JRPG developers haven't adapted like other developers.

I have nearly the entire Final Fantasy series, Octopath 1, Valkyrie Chronicles, Dragon Quest XI, Tales of Arise, installed on my Xbox.
I plan on getting the upcoming Personas.
Hell, I mainly only wanted FFXII and DQXI to make the jump and they did. Even lower key crap like Diofield is coming to XB.
Not everything is on the console - but most of the best stuff is covered. Id rather not have all those shitty farming games shown today.

Who has time to play multiple JRPGs a year to begin with? It just becomes redundant after awhile. Just stick with the best in between other games.

I am disappointed Tactics Ogre isnt making it over tho - maybe its timed?

Go to the PlayStation State of Play thread and read the comments pertaining to the JRPG games shown today. It's a circle-jerk of middle-aged men fawning over the bodily features of digital characters with faces designed to look like pre-pubescent children. There's a reason JRPGs have lost so much momentum since the 90s and why these people are rightly made fun of in public.

are you talking about JRPGs or visual novels? because pretty much a lot of the JRPGs i play these days don't really revolve around sex with anime girls. You're getting shit mixed up bro

Man you are triggered for some reason.

I buy jrpgs on Xbox, A LOT OF THEM at that too! and many other people do too!

Speak for yourself, I enjoy both genres myself, definitely a poor attitude to have, to say we don't care, because you personally don't care for them.

A ton JRPGs still utilize hyper sexualized baby faced character. 28 year old me find it weird having to play with 16 year old girls in bdsm inspired outfits. It sells a ton of merch tho to a certain crowd...but its just not for me. I got banned from the other forum for defending the right for people to make the games...but its still a bit odd to me.

It all comes from Japan, it's all the same thing, duh. Xenoblade, Code: Realize, Dragon Quest, Trails, Evenicle - all the same thing, command driven turn based trash, only a loser who should be shunned and shamed from society can tell the difference (HINT: there is none)

.... yeah, I was 12 once too.

What really happened here is Microsoft has never been able to sell Xbox in any non-English speaking country consistently, made a go of trying to moneyhat the genre in the 360 era, failed, and cultivated a user base that doesn't really like jRPGs.

EDIT: With all the "no voice acting" critiques - I wonder if what also happened on Xbox is that the ecosystem is AAAA-AAA games only. PC gamers seem more open to jRPGs now than they were 15 years ago, for example.

You can tell this characters nationality by looking at her face? Also, tell me with a straight face she doesn't look underage.
well even if she were or weren't underage she's also fucking korean
that's not even a japanese game

there's still quite a lot to like about JRPGs that isn't just "ohh look at how sexy the characters look"
