Double digit growth in hardware yet a decline in software sales. Welcome to the future where people don't buy games but cosmetics.

So is this the first PC Port that has charted the NPD top 10 for Sony?

I dont remember GOW, Horizon and Days Gone's PC ports help them get back in the top 10.
God of war and HFW both did as far as I remember.
Yep:

I vaguely remember getting into a debate with someone here about demand for PS5....I tried to tell em....

Welp.

Probably with Bernd Lauert

Sony seems to have finally sorted out in decent measure their supply issues (we're still far from finding consoles in stores) and this is August, things should get better with the new PS5 model is in September.
They are going to have a really strong holiday season.

I guess this settles some doubts from some people about the PS5 not hitting #1 because lacking some demand.

Also...Sony being #1 in console hardware sales while having the biggest game of the month outside of debuts, due to a PC release is honestly incredible, lmao.

Nice increases for Horizon Forbidden West and Gran Turismo 7.

Xbox without exclusives in 2022 will find it difficult to compete for 1st place. Microsoft really need exclusives for 2023.
I mean...even with exclusives it would still have God of War Ragnarok.

The interesting thing? Next fall Sony is about to have a single PS5 sku, selling for 400 dollars (if the news yesterday are real) and Spider-Man 2 if everything goes well. Imagine that happening.

I dont get how xbox is still seeing sales growth with absolutely 0 releases, its performing so damn well.

To think its still doing so well with the power of gamepass alone is proof that it's going to be mental once big releases start hitting.

Crazy, I guess it's out selling all previous xboxes by a considerable amount now.

I am not sure about the 400 dollar thing. That would require real big cost savings,, the savings in removing the disc drive won't be enough imo but will be interesting.

September looking alot bigger in sales for ps5 as well. August restocks seemed to be towards the tail end, whilst September is so far throughout, also september had way more ps5s in stores.

In 2020 they released a $400 version. But in 2023 3 years later, at least 2 or 3 hardware revisions and cheaper components it will be too expensive?
What's the % of Digital Consoles that they currently sell? What's the current ARPU? and what's the predicted attach rate of the Disc attachment.

I think those are the major questions personally.

Sony isn't going to go from making a profit on the disc sku to a scenario where they are needing a disc drive extension to make that profit back. The digital full software attach rate is another complicating factor personally.

Double digit growth for Xbox without any notable exclusives.

Impressive.

Next year should be a real page turner when the delayed games are out.

I feel like this has always been Xbox motto. Wait till next year, it will be the best year in Xbox history. Deja Vu.

We've been hearing the same promises since the Xbox one days.

Maybe next will will final be Xbox year to deliver tje goods. I wouldn't hold my breath though.

Sony weren't lying when they said stock will increase alot. They really do want to match the PS4 again as PS5 is currently behind when aligned. They just hit no 1 in the UK for the year and now they were no 1 in August in the USA. The holidays will be huge for them with god of war ragnarok.

All I will say is this:

I also remember getting into debates about MS not really taking advantage of low PS5 stock. Someone tried to flip that to Sony didnt take advantage of having better stock but ...yeah....

2022 being really dry for Xbox is gonna hurt. Its almost 2023, soon it will be 2024.... almost the halfway point for a regular console gen for Sony and MS.

Its about to be even more of an uphill battle this gen for MS vs Sony. We still dont know whats coming later from Sony. Hell, they just revealed 2 games as PS5 console exclusives... Steller Blade and Rise of Ronin. One of those games was multi platform, and I dont know if it still is.

The best MS and Xbox fans should do is look at Xbox Series vs XBO.

Honestly, MS will be overjoyed to where they are VS where they expected to be this gen. theres been multiple reports on various podcasts that speaking to a lot of MS staff that they didnt expect to be anywhere near as close to Sony this gen as they are. We all know, including them that this is solely down to Sony not being able to manufacture enough PS5s and series S performing crazy well in the pandemic. This is not going to be a 2 to 1 beating like last gen, Microsoft sees that as a massive win. Microsoft will never beat a worldwide number VS sony, its jjust not possible. Not for a long time if ever.

What is crazy is to see microsoft performing so well with having literally no first party big releases this year.

Sony has launched GT7, Horizon and soon to be god of war and it doesnt look like they are pulling away with 2 to 1 numbers etc. Xbox is still selling, and selling extremely well. All three majors are eating this generation and thats a win for all of them.

I cant wait to see what sony has for 2023 because we literally know nothing.

They are overjoyed to have spent 100 billion dollars and still be in third? I really doubt that.

The king is back and he wants his throne

Ps5 pretty much got a price increase in the usa as well, with the horizon bundle. So it's the most expensive hardware and they still winning.
I don't consider it a price increase, really. If it was Destruction All-Stars or some game people weren't going to buy, I'd agree, but I think Horizon is a game people are almost all fine with being bundled - especially when it would have cost them $70 to get it separately.

Could be. Certainly seems like the highest performance of Sony PC games. It’s probably their best IP to drive sales but also Sony has seemed to learn they need to release with the features expected by PC games (ultra wide, DLSS) and limited to no technical issues. Nixxes buy was smart.

Didn't they once claim they could hit billion Series consoles sold, or was that last gen?
It was last gen and they were talking about the entire industry. They were very wrong but I suspect a PC/mobile/xbox strategy was always on the cards even during xb1 launch.

No. They never said any such thing. They said it's possible to reach a billion gamers, but they meant through mobile, xcloud, PC, Xbox consoles.
https://www.vg247.com/xbox-one-micr...ion-lifetime-sales-100-million-xbox-360-units

"Microsoft's senior vice president of Interactive Entertainment Business Yusuf Mehdi has stated that given the broad multimedia focus of Xbox One, there's no reason why it can't shift between 400 million and 1 billion consoles in its lifetime."

They came up JUST short.
