8bit do ultimate controller : Getting stick drift - is it the joypad or the game ?

Hey guys and gals

The other day, in the Wo Long : fallen dynasty demo thread i wrote that i'm getting bad left stick drift , basically, when i press upwards on the stick the character gets stuck in a diagonal running animation even when i let go of the stick.
This is using my new, rarely/barely used 8bit do ultimate controller for xbox, when using the official XSX controller i don't have this problem.

Here's the thing though : using the "game controller tester" app on xbox, 8bit Do's app, gamepad-tester.com on PC and even trying various games on my XSX there's absolutely no stick drift at all leading me to believe that there's gotta be some sort of...incompatibility between this specific controller and the game's stick sensitivity values (?).Basically, different default stick deadzones on the 8bit do controller + bad/weird sensitivity values on Wo Long = stick drift - could this be a possibility ? tried adjusting deadzones via the 8bit Do app and the drift is still there.

What do you think it's going on here ? Is there anything else i could try or should i send the joypad back to Amazon ? (thank God i got the extended warranty).

Thanks in advance , cheers

Try a few more games to see if you have the same problem. And try it on other devices too. Then you'll know where the problem is.

Try update or downgrade your firmware, might help.
In my particular case, like a year ago, an update introduced a regression with a game i was playing at the time and got lot of delay on my analogs.
I installed an older firmware to bypass the issue

Thanks man.

The controller is on the latest FW.

This is really weird, never encountered this before, i mean, i know that different games use different deadzones for the sticks but shouldn't the drift have showed up during the tests via game controller tester, 8bit Do's own software AND gamepad-tester.com if there was indeed a problem with the stick's potentiometer ? All the tests show zero drift, it's just that damned game (Wo Long) that has it since i've already tested half of my game collection already and - again - there's zero drift in them.

Either return the controller, or, if you don't want to return it, disassemble and reassemble the stick that is problematic. Sounds like a hardware issue.

In this case, i do have another sugestion. Did you try to create a profile using 8BitDo Ultimare Software and increase the gamepad own deadzone? Might help in this particular game.

If you do feel like sending it back and you're in the US, there's an 8bitdo Pro controller with Hall Effect Sensors, which means you shouldn't ever get stick drift.

As it stands, it might be that the one game you're having problems with has more sensitive stick settings than others, and combined with the standard imperfections of sticks is causing a problem. In that case, you either adjust the controller's settings to increase the deadzone or return it.

downside is that controller won't work on Xbox 😔
