Xbox Announces Support for Logitech G CLOUD Gaming Handheld ($350)

Cloud gaming is not appealing in anyway
It could be given the right circumstances but if it’s only cloud gaming needing wifi and still $300 when Switch can already beat that price and play with its own internal hardware? What’s the point? Not to mention Steam Deck starts not much higher.

Seems like a real weird product. Maybe for a third the price I could see some appeal to some people, but not me.

I'd be down for a product like this for playstation. If it had ps+ extra/premium streaming and remote play, and the device had the haptics and adaptive triggers. With a new baby I've been using my remote play app with my iPad more than I thought I ever would.

Fuck me, the cringe. That’s embarrassing Phil. No way to polish this turd I’m afraid. Poor guy if he’s telling the truth though, imagine working at the place that manufactures the Surface and they ship you off with some Logitech POS.
Imagine being forced to show that thing off and of course all these people feel like they HAVE to play with it and praise it to his face

You just described every modern mobile phone on the market. The bonus - people already have those.

But yeh, really on to something.

The win would be the built in gaming controls with no need for controller attachments or the use of touch. Separating battery usage from their phone might be a win for some users as well. But, yeah, something smartphone size would be better.

I like the idea, not the price or size. If someone can figure a way to do this with less expensive hardware and in a form factor that's more portable in a traditional sense, it could work. This thing would take up more space than a controller attachment for a phone. Something more PSP-GO esque in nature (preferably even a bit thinner with an edge-to-edge screen that's as large as possible) and you'd really have something.

They already have, its called a backbone and your cellphone and its only an additional 60 dollars

Valve already said they are thinking about cloud steam decks and id much rather have one of those. Probably at half the cost. This thing doesn’t have hal sensors nor any extra triggers. Very much a no frills device at a premium price.

Not all that pocket-able though. Something the size of a smartphone would be easier to carry. Most people have enough pockets to carry two cell phone sized devices without issue. Once you get switch size it isn't really that portable without it being really obvious.

  • Having a sleek pockatable device
  • Having in built gaming controls
Choose one.

Also this device only has a 6000MaH battery, it's not that big a leap over what you will find in some phones, especially those geared towards gamers.

Ridiculous device, ridiculous price. It offers nothing but Phil Spencer said to like it so here we are.

I feel like the days of pocket sized portables are over. If you aren’t willing to play on your phone with touch screen controls you have to make peace with the fact that you will need a bag to carry a device in

It's not like Microsoft made the thing, they're just supporting it... for all we know it could actually work well for what it's been designed for, i think the price is just too high.

Does this actually run Android games too? Google Play/Amazon store stuff? I don't see that mentioned anywhere... just see Xbox, GeForce, Steam

You would need modified gaming controls, like were used on the PSP Go and on some of the DS systems. Nubs instead of full sticks and things like that. Would not be 100% like using a standard controller but much better than touch.

Tell me again GAF how Xbox not trying to sell hardware? Oh right its branded as (outsourced the R&D to) Logitech?? but they are banking on Gamepass subscriptions??? For $300??? and have the worst lineup of 1st and 2nd party exclusives????

But you can now play halo on the go. Power of the cloud????? Huh!??????

Logitech didnt deserves this as I love them as a brand.

IKR, I'm sure MS will be trying to support any device that can run Xcloud, as will Geforce, Stadia, etc.

Too close to the steam deck price. Most people would just use the phone or tablet they already own. Dont see a point to this. Would love a native device from Sony or MS. Doubt we will see one.

How does it differentiate from a cheap Chinese emulation handheld? I find it a bit hard to justify spending 300usd on this if you can pick a pretty competente emulation handheld (that is also capable of streaming) for a little less than 100usd.

Just pay Nintendo $10b for a 10 year Nintendo Game Pass app deal. Money clearly is no object and you get access to Nintendo’s gigantic base.

Having built in controls are nice as long as they aren't shit. Playing on phone or tablet means you are working with a touch interface unless you connect a controller or peripheral like a GameSir pad. Wouldn't mind this for android phone games if they can come down to earth a bit on the price (And the controls aren't shit)

I have a cheap little Lenovo M8 for media consumption that is capable of streaming GP games without issue. Thus, you don't need much on the hardware front if you are fully dedicated to just supporting streaming. I'm thinking this device does some local play or something like that, which is boosting the price.

Wait For Starfield™.

If you guys are done with your 'bitch eating crackers', the man has said from day 1 he wants Gamepass on everything he possibly can.

Honestly this thing is worthless to me without a 5g connection, and I sure as hell wouldn't pay for a data plan just for this. Just get a backbone, or a much cheaper controller clip, and stream on the phone you already have. I literally don't know who Logitech is trying to sell this to.

Welcome back man.

The price for this device is a little high but it does provide an additional vector for playing Game pass so I can see why MS would support it.

Thanks! I may be just a tad bitter as I hate the fact that Nintendo gets the hybrid space with zero competition. A ms or Sony handheld would not only force Nintendo to be more competitive, but also give us a nice catalog of other games at a higher level.
(The Steam Deck does but it's lack of console like ease and # of units available remove it from being a true contender......so far) This cloud device should be $199.

Interesting... I actually think I'm going to give it a try as a better option than my phone for messing with certain games on cloud. I never fully dove into it before. Tested it, sure, but never for long, and I'm not exactly objecting to the price. It can be something I take with me sometimes in my bookbag.

Guess I'll bite, see how I like it.

As to some referring to data plan, I would have never bothered with it on a data plan to begin with.

If you really want this bullshit, save yourself $250 and get this: https://www.goretroid.com/collectio...retroid-pocket-3-handheld-retro-gaming-system

You're welcome.

Not sure about the Retroid Pocket 3, Taki Udon helped with the development and he was not happy with what they're doing. I have the 2+ and it's great for anything up to DC/PS1.

The Ayntec Odin Lite looks great as do the Loki handhelds they're releasing this fall, I'd take any of those over the G-Cloud. I was optimistic about it when it leaked, but going with a shitty SD 720G and asking $350 all but killed my interest in it. IDK why they couldn't have gone with a higher powered SOC, get something like the Rokchip RK3588, Dimensity 9000, or SD 865. I can't imagine the Rokchip or Mediatek SOCs are very expensive.

And for the record, I don't expect this to replace my switch or anything. This is strictly about Game Pass games via cloud. I could easily see me messing with certain RPG style games like a Starfield or something when not able to get on my Series X or PC. So as to a better option for xcloud on the go, I don't exactly mind this logitech device, so that's why I'm going to buy it and give it a shot.

Just spend $50 more on a Steam Deck?

Seems a pointless product to me but here we are.

$300... for cloud gaming and wifi only?

Reading its also a tablet but man...I dunno. Interested to try one but not sure its worth the asking price....

Get a steam deck for just a little bit more? I'm not sure there's much of a market for this.

Hot takes galore I see. I don't understand why is it difficult to get - you get 1080p screen, WiFi 5Ghz. Also, SD is more expensive, plus you need to add the cost of extra memory card. The most expensive SD in Europe is 679€, double the price of this one.

That's not a hot take, broseph. That is a consumer opinion.

Carry that water tho!

I bought a cheapo Pixel 2 and a razer kishi for around $100 combined for game streaming while traveling. I’m out of town this week and this thing has been a pleasant surprise.

For $350 I’d expect an OLED screen. I’ll stick with my Pixel 2, thanks

I use my old S10+ for this with a gamesir pad, when I dont wanna use my Fold 3. Honestly any cheap phone will do better and they have AMOLED screens instead of a shitty ips. But to each their own.
