Just ordered an 1TB SSD Harddrive for my PC. Looking forward to having a faster system overall.
For people that have one, is the overall Performance/Experience much better with an SSD than a normal HDD?
One reason i got an SSD was Total War: Warhammer 3 since it took so much time to load a game.
I'm just worried if i will be able to build the SSD into my new PC without hassle.

How have you existed this long without ssd upgrade? Ssd is probably the single best upgrade/invention you can make to a pc for the last decade.

Considering building a new machine for next-gen 4K 144hz gaming. I know that I can't spend too much money on a GPU, but what the hell am I supposed to buy as a CPU to accompany it? Is a 13900K overkill for gaming? A 13600K too slow? What about frametimes and bottlenecking? I seem to read conflicting info regarding 4K gaming and CPUs..

I love my i7-11700k. Look for something similarly and you're good to go.
Edit: i see you are talking about 4k, hmm then go for the highest possible CPU but within reasonable pricerange of course. I personally wouldn't spend 600 euros for a CPU my pricerange is something between 350-420 bucks.

Even a 12600K/13600K will be fast enough for your needs. Spending a lot of money on a CPU for 144 Hz would be a waste. 12600K/13600K are close to the i9 in performance in most games if you're willing to overclock them.

So guys having some problems so I tested my i9 12900k on cinebench and computer bluescreens clockwise error or something like that.so used throttlestop to lower the turbo boost to 4.8ghz and cinebench works at 70c my question am losing much performance and have got bad i9 12900k ? Because heard of people getting 60c with h150i

So recently built a PC and also tried to "future proof" it a little.
Specs are:
Msi 100m case
Msi z690 pro-a ddr5
12400f
3060ti (msi trio) I already had from another build.
16gb ddr5 6000 cl40
Corsair rm850x
500gb sn770 ( I didn't realise the sn850 was only a bit more) but the sn770 is only for the OS and games till I get a 1tb for just games.

Any comments to this?

Also I have crashes here and there just to desktop on cyberpunk only. I take it this is just a cyberpunk problem as it doesn't seem to happen on other games?

Also I got the 12400f and kept the 3060ti thinking in a year or 2 upgrading to a 13th gen and a 4080. Anything in my build that would mean I might no be able to do that I know the new 40 series is going to be power hungry.

What RAM speed are you running?

Try running the RAM at stock settings and see if it works.

Also check to see if the BIOS is updated.

I'd suggest updating the BIOS if you haven't already, this board has a recent update that seems to improves RAM compatibility.

If that doesn't work I'd try lowering the RAM speeds, or disabling XMP to run DDR5 at stock values to see if that stops the crashing.

Sorry should of updated turning of c state fixed my problem even managed to do some overclocking cooling was not the issue.

Yea I haven't updated the bios, forgot about that and yea it only seems to be cyberpunk so far I thought it was a cloud issue but it still crashes offline, especially during dialogue. Anyway I'll update bios and try stock memory speeds.

Best monitor for my new 3080 machine? Want to do 144hz at 4K 32 inch
Depends on your budget

Money ain't a thang, I hear the Alienware 34" OLED is the wave for like $1500. Want to spend under a stack, That Sony InZone thing got some decent reviews. I think its $900. And then you have ole faithful that used to be all the rage, the Gigabyte M32u. I think its roughly $680.

4k bottleneck would be the GPU. More dollars towards the GPU than the CPU.

i've not been paying much attention to rumors/leaks or any general products in the PC market for a while now. i have some questions.
  • when are the next AMD CPUs coming out with DDR5/PCIE5.0 support?
  • looking at Intel's newest CPUs i noticed the CPUs have changed their hyper threading. my CPU has 8 cores and 16 threads but these new ones have say 16 cores and only 24 threads. why not 32 threads? what's changed?
  • do we know when RTX 4000 cards coming?
  • any news on PCIE 5.0 SSDs?
  • what DDR5 speeds should i look at? i think the base for DDR4 was 2133 and mines is at 3200. what is the base for DDR5 and what are most people running RAM at?
  • what's the best case makes to get now? I have a fractal design which i don't really need to replace but might be tempted to get a new one.
  • are they adapters for old LGA1151 cpu coolers for the latest version or would i be better getting a new cooler?

AMD AM5 launches in 10 days.
Intel added E-Cores which greatly improve capabilities in multi-thread tasks. E-Cores are only 1 Thread each. Lower end CPUs (i3s and lower lack E-Cores entirely). 13th Gen doubles E-Cores which will add more threads.
40-Series announced in 3 days expected.
They'll be really fast, but probably really expensive when they launch
If you go with Intel 12th/13th Gen, you can re-use your DDR4 RAM. Base DDR5 is 4800. Most DDR5 today has terrible timings unless you get the more expensive stuff. I'm personally sticking to DDR4 till DDR5 becomes better for gaming.
Whichever has the features you want and looks the best to you.
Depends on the coolers. Many cooler makers offer LGA 1700 (12th/13th Gen) adapters for their coolers. If your cooler supports AM4 it will work on AM5.

Hi I currently have an RTX 3080 Ti and an i7 8700k... Im noticing more problems in CPU bound games and I would like to upgrade however I have been completely out of the loop regarding the CPU marketing last few years.

What would be the best and most efficient upgrade and is it even worth upgrading?

Also I have an ITX case

Your looking at having to change motherboard for the socket to use the new ones coming from AMD/Intel this year, wait until you see how that pans out in benchmarks. Your going to have to look at IPC benchmarks then choose a cpu middle of the pack because you don't want to waste your limited cooling in the itx case cooling a bunch of extra cores you don't need.

Unfortunetly yes, the cpu might actually be reasonable price wise but your going to need a new motherboard which seem to be increasing in price along with ddr5, which is getting cheaper but it's still more than ddr4.

Question about multi-monitor setups and GPUs:

Short version:
Can I leave two "monitors" connected to the GPU, but only use one monitor for gaming and "turn off" the second monitor so that it's not conflicting with the game or using GPU resources?

Context/long version:
I have an RTX 3050 8GB in my gaming PC in my office, and I bought a long ass HDMI cable so that I could game on my livingroom TV which is just the next room over. My office gaming monitor is a 240hz 1080p G-Sync set (with the actual G-Sync hardware chip in it) and my livingroom TV is a Sony 4K 65" that I can run in 120hz mode adaptive sync @ 1080p comfortably on this card. At first, I started having issues when I tried to game on one VS the other with both connected, so instead of dealing with that I just started swapping the cables right out of the back of the card so that I only have one or the other connected at a given time. That works well enough, but I have to swap them sometimes once or twice a day, and I'm weary that I might be damaging the Display port / HDMI ports on the back of my GPU with that many cycles over time.

So how can I easily leave my Display port connected AND my HDMI connected at the same time, and then switch between which monitor to game on? Do I have to dick around with the drivers every time I want to switch? And if so, how? That's never been clear to me. I remember having trouble using G-Sync in my office or Adaptive Sync in my livingroom when both were connected at the same time, which is why I ask.

Yes, PowerColor is a good AMD brand. I had R9 390 PCS+ and RX 480 8GB Red Devil and they we're both great GPUs with quiet and effective cooling. This was during a time when AMD's reference cards were still using shitty-ass blower fans. PowerColor cards really took a dump on the reference models.

Just use windows display menu and tell it to use single display only. The game will play on whatever display is designated #1.

Ditched my AM4 rig, hoping my transition to LGA 1700 goes smoothly.

Can't decide if I should go ahead with the 12600K or wait for 13600K. If I wait, that's nearly a month without a desktop, luckily I have a laptop in the meantime...

Just create an initial profile with just your PC screen enabled, save it. Then create another with just your TV enabled, save it.
A lot faster than enabling/disabling in Windows settings each time, let alone unplugging!

I use this and it works quite well. Although I find that I have to resave the profile far more often than I'd like. I wish WIndows had a feature like this completely built in as it seems like a no brainer.

So what's gafs issue with ips panels.

Y6 years ago I bought an Acer predator gsync 1440p 144hz and thought it was great. When I was buying it I thought ips were better for colours over normal LCD panels?

i have an IPS monitor also 1440p 144hz gsync and i am very happy with it. it was a big improvement over my old TN monitor. i think the problem some people might have with IPS is that it's not as good as OLED/Mini LED which are becoming more popular. once i got an OLED tv i could see what a difference it is compared to an IPS display. the biggest "Issue" is that you can't get deep blacks on IPS. it doesn't bother me going between an OLED and IPS screen. the only thing is that i can't use my monitor in HDR mode because it is so bad. the entire screen is at fully brightness so blacks are ... not black lol. in normal usage it doesn't bother me.

Just got myself this for Wrath of the Lich King classic as my old laptop is slow as fuck and WoW just doesn’t play nice on Steam Deck for me (too fiddly especially as a healer using sticks).

Got £100 back as it’s buy now pay later so it cost £779.

The YouTube benchmarks on it are pretty amazing. Never thought it would be able to run some of those games at 1080/60! Seems good value. Not going to be my main machine as I play most games on Series X / PS5 / Switch so it should do nicely.

Once we see how fully current gen Unreal Engine 5 games using nanite and Lumen run on console (obviously back to 30fps) I think I’ll switch back to PC and do a 4080 build late next year.

Swapping my 2080 Ti for a 3080. Partly for the ~33% perf increase at 4K, partly so I can get 4K/120Hz out to the TV, partly because I can recoup most of the cost by selling the 2080 Ti.

Oh yeah, also because the 4000 series can suck one.

What's the deal with DTS .
I'm looking at some a new headset since my recently broke and I'm looking to spend up to a 100.

The Logitech g pro X are on sale and are dts, they come with the licence. So not a bad deal.

However is the sound quality shit in games/audio that don't support the software or do you still get good sound just not boasted for it?

Alternatively I'm looking at the steelseries arctis nova 3s

I moved all of my components from a Corsair 680X into a Lian Li O11 Dynamic today. It was a total pain in the ass, and I'm both annoyed and impressed.

Pros
  • Better overall thermal performance (substantially)
  • More flexibility for water-cooling setups (substantially)
  • Longer GPU support (substantially)

Cons
  • Build quality is somewhat worse in a few areas, like the radiator mounts and the included screws.
  • Less height available for air coolers (substantially)
  • Disassembly is a pain in the ass (substantially)
  • No handles or grips for the tempered glass, meaning that fingerprints are a constant battle.
  • Worse cable management room when compared to the Corsair (substantially)
    • Especially if you're using both hard drive bays.
With as much praise as this case received over the past few years, I kind of expected more. The build was pretty brutal and I'm shocked I managed to fit 2 Commander Core XTs and an RGB Lightning Hub.

It will be years before I move to another case. I'm getting too old for this shit.

Dts is not supported in most pc games as far as I'm aware.

I just took a look at that and man, the lack of dust filtration and the inability for front-to-back airflow would make it a no-go for me. I know it's a case designed for exhibiting your sick rig but I like both being able to put my case against a surface on one side (or two potentially), and being able to have a high positive pressure filtered airflow system. I don't forsee ever getting rid of my Phanteks P400A unless I'm forced to for some reason.

The Lian-Li case is cool, but one of the biggest reasons I didn't purchase one was because its like the default case of the DIY community, lol. I went with the Be Quiet 802 airflow when it launched. One of my best case purchases ever.

I don't know those headphones, but I'm assuming it uses dts headpone x which is an artificial surround processor. It takes 2 channel source and turns it into surround sound, but in headphones only. Like dolby pro logic takes 2 ch and turns into surround for multi speaker setups.

It takes any audio in 2 channel and converts it, no need for support.

I have a cheap pair of logitech that use a usb dongle into standard 3.5mm mic/hp. I could use that for any headphones I wanted through their software and enable dts or dolby.

Ok I need advice from the pros. I was going to do a full rebuild once the 4090s came out but I've talked myself into a more sound financial decision :) My current rig is only like 3 years old I hate to dumpster it already.

Right now Ive got an i9-9900,16gb of ram, and an 850watt PSU. Any issue with that setup supporting a 3080ti? Any bottlenecking I should worry about or would those all synergize well?

Id be upgrading from a basic bitch 2080... do you think the 3080ti would worth the price of that upgrade? Looks like they're in the $800-$900 range right now

My primary goal is 4k gaming at very high settings at the highest FPS feasible.

Also hypothetical question... would my current setup even properly support a 4090? If so... would it be more bang for the buck to bypass the 3080ti and just go for that?

Ty!!

Probably a silly place to ask for non-gaming PC advice, but I've never owned a desktop - only laptops - and I want to change that. I don't intend to do any PC gaming on it.

Reason I want a desktop is because I'm sick of spending $1k+ on a laptop that goes to shit within a year. My job involves a lot of multitasking with many tabs across several Chrome users, and various software/IDEs. I need to restart my laptop every day, lest it gets frustratingly slow and begins suspending inactive tabs after only a few mins.

So I want something powerful and reliable for heavy multitasking, and I'm willing to pay a pretty penny. Problem is I don't know the equilibrium of performance vs price and their diminishing returns. I hear 16GB RAM is plenty and 32GB is overkill, for example - is that true? What about an i7-9000 vs an i9? Would appreciate some general guidance for some top-notch parts, and anything else I might want to know about building a PC.

At 4K your Core i9 9900 is still great. 3080 Ti would work greatly with it.

Too early to say if your system would bottleneck a 4090, I'd have to see PCIe 3.0 scaling which we'll find out when the cards launch. Your 2080 is still pretty good so it might not be a bad idea to wait to see how things play out. Prices of 3080 Ti might drop, or you could get a 4080 12 GB which should outperform it and give better features, and depending on competition from AMD the prices may even come down a bit...

What specs are your laptop? Does it have an SSD and a good amount of RAM? RAM capacity needs depend on what you are doing, check your task manager (CTRL+SHIFT+ESC) to see how much memory you are using while you are working.
