Rumor: Horizon Zero Dawn Remaster in development as well as Multiplayer Project based on Horizon

NeoGAF: Melts down.
hey here's a short list of games Sony could remake/sequel instead that would breathe new life into more IPs and gain them even more money

Parappa the Rapper (with how popular friday night funkin is these days it'd sell gangbusters and it's not like it's a super high budget AAA production)
Ape Escape
Uncharted 1-3
Vib-Ribbon
Sly Cooper
MediEvil (a remake came out in 2019 but a third game would be nice)
Gravity Rush
Killzone (they're going to lose COD to MS soon, this is the smartest decision they could make)
Jak & Daxter (which they could hand off to guerrilla since they seem like the perfect team to handle Jak's open worlds)
LittleBigPlanet (the one that was actually creative, not the Mario 3d World ripoff)

A lot of these games (Parappa and Uncharted especially) are very popular IPs that basically made the Playstation brand, resources that they're wasting on a HZD remake could easily go into remaking one of these gems instead and raking in tons of cash from people who are nostalgic for the older games and people who are new and just getting into these franchises. Playstation's goldmine of IPs is second to Nintendo and yet they're hardly even using it :/

Imagine the days when calling MS studios sequel machines, would be a compliment

Instead of sequel machines we get remake machines, where people have to keep making the same game over and over.

Talk about hell.

How can this be a major remake when they are simply going from one PS4 game to another. They are literally porting over to HFW's character models. At least TLOU was a PS3 game remade with PS4 quality assets from TLOU2. This is a quick cash grab reusing the character models and other visual enhancements made for the sequel. And mark my words, this will be a $70 release. They will justify it by making it PS5 only, and by touting amazing next gen features like accessibility settings and dualsense features.

Regardless of how many resources it will take, it will take away resources. Just like how patching the PC version of HZD for six months ultimately cost them a delay to 2022. Just the fact that a premiere Sony studio is making a last gen remake/remaster in 2023 is downright depressing. The idea shouldve been canned immediately by higher ups. Studio shouldve had revolts. Mass resignations.

I cant believe this is the same studio that made KZ2 in Feb 2009. 2.5 years after launch. Imagine their big Feb 2023 release being a last gen DLC and a last gen remaster. Questions have to be raised here. Gaming journos arent going to. DF isnt going to. The PS fanbase has to make this as big a deal as they made the HFW free upgrade fiasco and the PS3 vita store closings.

I seriously doubt it’s going to be $70 like tlou1.

But ehh I could be wrong

Horizon isn’t a ps3 game and isn’t as beloved as TLOU, I see it more as a Spider-Man type situation

I really don’t care either way we know they have other games in the works

I cant believe the guy who brought us GOW, TLOU II, Ghosts, Spiderman, all in a span of 2 years is now head of fucking indies... And replaced him with Herman Hulst, who has delivered nothing but cross gen bull shit and remasters in that same time period.

An absolute joke.

And yet when people complain they are laughed at and called concern warriors.

Wake the fuck up.

Jim Ryan and Hulst are fucking failing miserably in comparison to their predecessors

Seriously, who the heck wants to play through this Ubisoft like game AGAIN?
It’s a great game. Problem is, I already bought it again on PC.

And I bet they would release the PC version later again on a remake, making fans buy the same game 4 times. It’s getting annoying.

Soon I’ll just sit up on the fence waiting for all Sony’s releases, seems like Playstation first is like a punishment rather than a bonus, LTTP gamers always get the best experience.

They are all struggling. Ms used to be fable, halo, gears and forza but fable has been MIA for a decade, gears MIA for 3 years, and Halo took six years only to disappoint and downgrade.

Nintendo used to be Metroid, mario and a zelda machine but AAA metroid has been MIA for over 14 years. Mario has been MIA since 2017 and botw would’ve taken 6+ years to release.

Sonys focus on remakes and remaster is troubling. Spider-Man, demon souls, tlou in three years and now another? Aside from Demon souls, Who asked for this?

I said a lot of times Sony got lucky when Covid hit they had games ready to go, others were in early stages. The earlier in planning as Covid hit the worse your game would be.

Now they are feeling the push as all the other studios are ready to publish.

We are going to see the covid delay from Sony in the next set of games that are going to move from 23 to 24 to 25

Every concern of mine has come true. Turns out, the only trolls were Jim Ryan and Herman Hurst who have trolled every single ps5 buyer with last gen games and remakes.

Someone brought up silicon valley and I attribute this to PlayStation moving their headquarters to San Mateo right next to Silicon Valley. Sony has turned into a soulless money first corporation like American corps like EA, Activision and Microsoft. Their Japanese developer friendly roots are long gone. Jim and Herman are no different than kotick and bezos.

If the 2nd Guerrilla team is working on Horizon multiplayer and not the rumored Socom, this is the worst timeline.😭 On the remaster/remake, yep, that's sound like current PlayStation ran by Jim and Hermen.

Lmao. You are essentially 100% correct. However the silver lining is... Its gonna be a very long gen. Covid all but guaranteed PS6 isn't coming til like 2028.

This gen will have a ridiculously slow start (we're seeing that now), but when it picks up and gets going we should be seeing some truly magnificent stuff towards the second half of it.

Guerrilla Games | Finished Horizon Forbidden West > Finishing the Horizon Forbidden West DLC > Working on Horizon Multiplayer game > Rumored Killzone MP

Naughty Dog | Finished Last of Us Part II > Completed The Last of Us Part I after taking it over for VAS > Working on The Last of Us Multiplayer > Working on a new IP

BluePoint | Remake studio, now working on an original IP

Insomniac | Finished Spider-Man: MM > Finished Spider-Man Remaster > Finished Ratchet and Clank > Spider-Man 2 is coming out in 2023

I don't see how it's troubling considering they're still pushing out Triple A titles

These "Remasters" are happening because they're taking a small team to make with far less development time. There's nothing to even suggest right now that it's concerning.

I think it's just a matter of the overall decision making being at the hands of Sony financial analysts than the creatives. Maybe the numbers/projections showed that Sony at a group level would be far more profitable by focusing on low risk but high return projects (remakes or remasters of already established franchises, gaas type titles etc) while also realising synergies in marketing with the movie/TV businesses. If the directive from the top says to prioritise low risk ventures, the studio heads can't do anything.

bingo! this's true of apple, as well. when the bean counters move in, the creativity inevitably evaporates...

Agreed, because isn't that Spiderman remaster on PS5 like 39 bucks or something?

So this merely sounds like clickbait shit trying to force the word "REMAKE" to get clicks and fake outrage shit. Porting, remasters etc on Playstation of their big IP is pretty normal and noticed you didn't see this fake fucking shit posted on some thread when Ghost Of Tsushima was literally remastered 1 year after release

Yeah I think it’ll be a $10 upgrade or something like Spider-Man or GoT

I don’t know why everyone rushes to outrage. I’m not exactly itching to replay Horizon but honestly stuff like this is better than just 100% uprezzed BC

Very overblown reaction here as always on neogaf. It’s probably a fast remaster with updated textures or few models. Will probably be free or with an amazing multiplayer mode 10-20 dollars DLC.People always act if they are forced to buy it or forced to play it.A multiplayer could be really great with robo Dinos.Wait and see then make your reactions

I really wish this is true but tbh I don’t think it will be. I think this will be a full $70 game without an upgrade path, but I hope I’m wrong.
Lol Sony is greedy but not stupid. No way they would charge $70 for a Horizon 1 remaster.

Y’all are too quick to buy into these rumors “insiders” are creating because of the lack of gaming news and releases.

I'd love to see visual update to Zero Dawn to make it on par with Forbidden West (including complete dialogue overhaul and facial animations), it'll be easy to do cuz Engine is the same. I think that's what they're doing if this rumor is to be believed.

Idk, sometimes they do things that should’ve been stopped by their PR team at the idea phase. Like not including a free PS5 upgrade of Horizon FW despite stating the opposite just a few months earlier, only to have to backrrack after the outrage of the inconsistent messenging.
It doesn’t have to be plain stupid, it just takes a bad PR team giving them the green light and I think it’s safe to say that Playstation has a pretty lackluster PR team for a line of products of the popularity they’re responsible of.

Edit: Not bad PR team in all regards of course, but it’s inconsistent. Often they hit it of the park but sometimes one can’t believe their stupidity.

Lack of gaming news and releases? They are releasing UNCHARTED™ 4: A Thief’s End, UNCHARTED™: The Lost Legacy and Sackboy™: A Big Adventure later this month on PC

I had a feeling the person reporting on this was confusing a remaster for a remake cause there's no way in hell they were gonna REMAKE HZD & look at the shitstorm that caused here lmao. You guys really are so fucking dense, if it's a remaster then it's gonna be a $10-20 upgrade, they're not retarded to charge $70 for a remaster (hopefully). The one thing I'm pissed about is the rumored multiplayer project being this instead of a new IP or SOCOM.

So gaming for Sony is to just make remakes to sell their other media ventures. I mean, why?

So the only game that will get signed off now are remakes or games they can turn into TV shows or movies? Their games are already heavy dialogue third person narrative games. I don't understand?

I honestly didn't think this gen could get any worse for big triple A games and I was wrong.

The worst part is they will show some fancier graphics and we will have threads of fans arguing why it's worth the asking price and that it's the best looking game ever....not realising there's nothing next gen about it apart from the visuals and we aren't getting any progression in games. All while this happens, Sony delist the original forcing sales on the new version.

So what does Sony have for 2023? I hope there is genuinely true next gen games coming and this isn't also acting as some padding to a weak roadmap of releases. When is Sony showing new games?

What a mess.

I don't see the media and reporters that have been riding sonys dick for many years taking this well, we are all having our patience tested way beyond its means at this point. If this remake/remaster is real Jim Ryan really is a buffoon and needs to go.

I never did really get far in that game, bought the new one. Should I play the first one all the way through before playing the sequel?
Also not paying $70 for them to redo this one either.

LTTP gamers always get the best experience.
Everyone should listen to this one statement. There is almost zero need to buy games day one apart from if you are starved of games. I’m guilty of it so I’m not preaching, it is clear that nowawadays you get a vastly better experience if you wait a few months after launch. HFW had a weird shimmering affect at launch on performance mode, with one of the patches a few months later, resolution in that mode was improved greatly. Consumers who had paid £70 and plowed on got a significantly worse product. The writing is on the wall and if you can wait….. you definitely should.

Just play it. I’m not far into Forbidden West but so far I like Zero Dawn more, especially if you play it on PS5 (or PC) where the 30fps problem is gone. The combat is slower, easier to plan the fights and rig the place with traps etc.
Forbidden West’s enemies are charging far too fast and aggressively imo. Still a good game but the fights can be frenetic and with a camera too close and aim-zoom and big enemies I just feel like I’m fighting the camera more than anything else. Maybe it gets better later idk

Seems like a waste of resources.

The Order: 1886 remake.
I would actually get behind this.
Maybe they finally finish the story?
Source: Dusk Golem (and even then it's not even a real source)

Just close the thread. Nothing but clickbait.

Edit: REMASTER. No way they're giving it the TLOU1 treatment after 5 years.
One of the more accurate "insiders"

Yeah imagine going in for the first time on TLOU soon when Part 1 comes to PC 🔥
As it is I’m skipping Part 1 because I’ve already bought the game twice, and never even finished Remastered. LTTP gamers always win, can even get games for free on subscription services. But they’ll likely have the story spoiled for popular games.

Is this game on PC now with 4k res, HDR etc.....???

WTF would a 'remaster' bring to the party?

Should be free to those who already brought this game on PC but it wont be, it'll be sold for $60.

Idiots.

An actual remake would be the dumbest shit I've ever heard of (very soon after the previous dumbest shit I'd ever heard of, which was the TLOU remake).

A remaster rerelease (i.e. pretty much what's already available if you play the game on PS5), sure, go ahead I guess.

Monster Hunter style Horizon game has a lot of potential.

Hopefully it won't be PVP.

I can understand a multiplayer title.

A remake would be insanely stupid. It already looks fantastic and runs at 60fps. A waste of resources
