Starfield SteamDB Changes May Hint at Another Delay for Bethesda’s RPG

Doesn’t matter if it’s postponed since May will have Zelda.

Crazy to think that open world games are finally going to move forward, bringing new ideas that everyone else will copy for the next decade.

It doesn’t have a clear release yet, does it? Only 1st half of 2023?
It’s just a placeholder, don’t see them delaying it again.

Could Starfield be in for another substantial delay? After many years in development, Bethesda initially locked down a November 11, 2022 release date (11/11/22), but the game was later delayed to the first half of 2023. Well, you may not want to get your hopes too high for a spring Starfield release.

Recently, the SteamDB listing for Starfield was updated, giving the game a new release date of December 29, 2023. A new “package,” perhaps related to a season pass or other DLC, was also recently added then removed from the Starfield page. Clearly, something is going on behind the scenes with the page.

Now, December 29, 2023 is very likely a placeholder date – that would be a very strange time to release a major game – but it could indicate that a late 2023 release is more likely than an early 2023 release for Starfield. Bethesda has almost always stuck with holiday releases for their big games, after all. Of course, take all this with a grain of salt for now. Could Microsoft and Bethesda update us on the status of Starfield soon? Let’s hope so.

Haven’t been keeping up with Starfield? Here’s everything you need to know about the game, along with an official description…

“The year is 2330. Humanity has ventured beyond our solar system, settling new planets, and living as a spacefaring people. From humble beginnings as a space miner, you will join Constellation — the last group of space explorers seeking rare artifacts throughout the galaxy — and navigate the vast expanse of the Settled Systems in Bethesda Game Studios’ biggest and most ambitious game. In this next generation role-playing game set amongst the stars, you will create any character you want and explore with unparalleled freedom as you embark on an epic journey to answer humanity’s greatest question: What is out there?”

Starfield is slated to arrive on PC and Xbox Series X/S in the first half of 2023 (for now).

Maybe I'm not getting it but it looks like they changed the Nov 2022 date to "some time in 2023". It's not a second change from what I can see. Maybe I'm reading it wrong.

The Microsoft show that occurred earlier this summer specifically said that the games shown/presented were coming out in the next 12 months.

So why would you go with what is in your mind? Starfield has been in development for a long time now. Why is it so hard to believe that you'll be playing this game in the next 7 or so months?

Dude. I believe I am 9 feet tall and 400 lbs of pure muscle. I am actually 5 foot 11 and weight around 200. But in my mind I believe I am 9 feet tall okay? And my mind is what matters!!!

🤡

smh, relax bud. I just feel its coming fall 2023 and not getting my hopes up on it coming sooner.

Covid effected lots of things, its a new IP so lots of new systems to work out etc. So...no reason for this weird defense force shit man. I just assumed it would be fall 2023 considering how development has been going for the whole industry and this team in general. They might want to have a very solid launch with a new IP so folks don't keep repeating this bugs this and bugs that with their launches. So I welcome a delay and expect it and don't really see it coming sooner, I'll be happy if it does mind you, but no reason to get bent out of shape based on my assumption.

Its hard for me to believe any game is going keep its date thats a new IP during this gen man. That isn't a dig at Starfield or something.

As eager as I am to play it, I do hope it gets delayed based on the gameplay reveal alone. It looks like it still needs a lot of polishing, and I'd rather have a rock solid experience right out the gate. Except for their GAAS title, 76, Bethesda is well known for leaving jankiness and bugs in their products once they've been released.

In a sense they've really only got one shot to get this right, because once it ships all the bugs are staying put. Fuck that.

Lol. No one is bent out of shape, I was simply making fun of your statement in regards to what your mind believes because it sounded absolutely insane without any kind of context. If you gonna state what you believe, then you need to provide a thorough explanation on why you believe something like you just did here. If you would of said to what you just said now, I would have a completely different reaction to it.

I get what you're saying, but the game had a release date since 2021 for November of this year. And it has gotten shafted and yes like you said covid is causing issues for many games.

I highly doubt it will be getting delayed again, they can't afford another PR blow like this and they know it. And as I said the game has been in development for a very long time, I don't see it being delayed again, I really don't.

As for the bugs you honestly expect a Bethesda game to not have any bugs? That will never happen no matter how many delays the game gets.

First of all there is no such thing as a bug free game. That doesn't exist, no matter open world or not.

Second of all its a Bethesda game and bugs are gonna be there whether you like it or not.

And no, I am not defending Fallout 76, that was utter trash and they can't repeat that with any of their future games.

Does this mean we should soon expect more youtube videos of Bethesda's circlejerking developers congratulating themselves on the excellent game they keep delaying?

That's sort of hilarious in and of itself.
This has got to be my least favorite form of game promotion. The only time I want to see or hear from developers is after a game has come out and then get in to the Meaty ins and outs of how it was made.
I really liked the Doublefine documentary on the making of Broken Age. Hope they put out one on Psychonauts 2.

Eh? its not coming out on the snes fella we got the internet, patches and mods these days.

Game will be fine and if not we'll fix it for them until the anniversary edition comes out.

He means Bethesda won't bother fixing shit and would leave it to the community on PC only.

Didn't see that much jank personally except the shooting.

Its called an assumption, I'm allowed to have em sir.

And thats completely false mind you, I gave plenty of context behind that assumption.

Covid, a delay has already happened to the game, the teams history with bugs, being a new IP with new systems vs a sequel with a ground foundation.

So either you didn't read the comment or you are too triggered to understand what is being stated man. Its not that serious.

I highly doubt it will be getting delayed again, they can't afford another PR blow

Nahhhhh, I highly fucking disagree. They can't afford a CYBERPUNK 2077 RELEASE! Broken features, missing functions, stripped or removed elements etc. They can afford a delay, its really not that bad and I'd argue we would be more pissed if that game launched changing the genre like "its now action" and "no more flight battles, will come with dlc" lol

We'll patch the NPCs AI in lol

That would be far more worse and most will forget a delay, they won't forget some shit storm of the game releasing broken, missing features and lawsuits or something. Fuck the PR bud, worry about the overall quality of the title and what it represents, their focus should be on putting out the best game, not worrying about some PR thing or something. They'd have shit PR if the game launched in a broken state...

And no, I am not defending Fallout 76, that was utter trash and they can't repeat that with any of their future games.

smh....but they should rush it out to avoid bad PR though huh? If you want to avoid some trash mess or something, they need to take the L on a delay.

As someone who is buying this game day 1, I'd be happy if it really did come out in Summer, but I'd be more happy with it releasing working sir, I don't give a shit about a delay as my issues with CP2077 are not about "delays" its about them not even delaying it when it was needed in the first place. Trust me on this, the long term damage will be based on rushing it, not a delay.

Most of us won't even care that it was even delayed, we'll all be hype talking about how great it is.

Have a good one.

Man it looked rough and that was a curated bit of the game. Like another poster said id actually welcome a fall release. They can take all the time in the world for me as long as we get an expanded version Skyrim in space and all that comes with it , Ill be golden.

Facts.

I hype for it, but with such a deep backlog and so many great games coming out next year in spring and even the start of the year like Dead Space remake, I'd rather have it ready, when its ready.

Fall sounds great if everything is solid and ready to launch. I don't want it bad enough to want to see it rushed or something. Plenty of games coming 2023 to hold me over (like that big ass backlog of 2022 lol)

What we have is a company currently shipping $70 Switch copies of a ten year old game with ten year old bugs. They've had a decade worth of rereleases to fix stuff and they won't do it. Your faith is misplaced. If Bethesda fucks this up it will stay fucked up.

Whether they delay game or not people will find shit to complain about regardless.

Are you not satisfied with what you saw from the 20 minute demo? Me personally it seems exactly what I expected. Skyrim in space.

Visuals would never be mind blowing. Bethesda was never known for graphics or amazing art styles. Was always about the stories and rpg systems.

Cyberpunk 2077 I feel like is a very special case. It was a game whose hype was built around ever since its initial cinematic trailer in 2013. Then Witcher 3 came a long and was a masterpiece for many which gave even more pressure for the devs on Cyberpunk 2077 and created even more hype for the fans.

Then covid happend and everything went to shit for everybody. It was an absolutely horrific timing. Now I am not sure how that affected starfield but I'd imagine also not too well, but the game was being released later so they don't have to worry as much.

We have no idea how far along Starfield was pre or post covid. Me personally, I am not expecting to be blown away by this game. But I am expecting it to enjoy it and have fun with whatever it offers.

If they delay the game it's bad pr. If they release the game and it's not fun and not good then it's also bad pr. But that can be said about any developer these days and not just Bethesda.

Reality is that the industry is in a weird spot right now due to what happend with the world in the last 2 years. It's still going to take some time for things to cool off. I believe that covid has put the industry into a lag of at least 2 to 3 years. And I am not sure how long it will take to recover.

lol maybe, maybe not.

I agree with the Skyrim issues, but we don't know if Starfield done with different features will have the same type of issues. As in, I feel many things will be unfucked and a few things might stay fucked up sure, but because we are talking about different generations, maybe they have a set up where its easier to correct those issues then from 2011 architecture or something.

Keep in mind, I don't disagree that one should expect bugs, simply that I don't see it being a massive game breaking thing or something.

I don't disagree with you, but that was something I was never debating or commenting on.

If they delay the game it's bad pr. If they release the game and it's not fun and not good then it's also bad pr

But they have control over its release date, they don't have much control over if someone feels its fun or not, that will always be up in the air, that is no excuse to disregard the state of a game to hit some date.

The game being solid and in a functional state of quality should be their priority. If some don't like it? Thats ok, its subjective, but if the game is rushed and their reasons are because of functions that don't exist that should, missing elements, breaking features etc, then that is a controllable thing. So no matter how you think some might react to this, it doesn't excuse, support or condone rushing a game to avoid "bad PR"

Im buying it day 1 and even I don't give a fuck to have it that early, I care about having it WORKING. Look at the delay threads, we barely talk about that shit after lol Yet look at the threads where someone puts out a game with missing AI or something lol

Every other week was like "removed from PSN" lol and or "lawsuits pending" that is far worse.

Congratulations - you have been manipulated by a website that's trying to cause controversy and get people to click so they can generate traffic and make money off ignorant and uniformed individuals such as yourself.

Anyone who knows how release dates work wouldn't have fallen into this silly trap. Maybe use some logic and actual thinking before deciding whether you should also spread misinformation to other people.
I don't care if it's true or not.

"Manipulated" 😂
"Fallen into a trap" 😂

Their best ? Apart from a forgettable and forgogitten Ps2 racing game, BG has created a single Ip, Elder Scroll...
Their best games, sorry wasn't clear on that one. Morrowwind, Oblivion, Skyrim Fallout 3. ..........These games don't come around very often. Hopefully i can lose as many hour in Starfield as i did in those titles.

Crazy they haven't released a new big title in what 6-7 years now?

This means absolutely nothing as the game did not have an actual release date since the delay. That said, I could easily see it slipping to fall.

The changes from the original release date of 11th November 2022 to a placeholder 2023 date.
They just did it now for stream instead of earliert.

This indicated nothing at all.
