God of War Ragnarök – Hands-on gameplay report

What the devs did with HFW with performance mode and how fantastic it still looked is the new bar (IMO) for action games. Anything less than that is unacceptable. I'm hoping this will be the same. There's no excuse anymore for any graphic loss in performance mode now.
Agreed that this is the bar

But to be fair, it took many patches and updates to get here, performance mode wasn't the greatest at launch

About to drop into Valhalla. Wish me luck fellas! 🙏

GOD OF WAR RAGNAROK GRAPHIC MODES

  • Favour Resolution – 4K/30FPS Locked
  • Favour Performance – 60 FPS Locked
  • Favour Resolution (High Frame Rate On) – 4K/40FPS Locked (HDMI 2.1 required)
  • Favour Performance (High Frame Rate On) – Targeting 120 FPS (HDMI 2.1 required)

HDMI 2.1 shouldn't be required for those modes above. 2.1 isn't required for 120fps when at lower resolutions such as 1440p.

That's the "problem" with PS5. If connected to a 4K display, it always outputs in 4K - so it needs a HDMI 2.1 cable

You can change the resolution in the settings. I had to do that to get rid of some HDCP handshake scanline that slowly strolled down the screen that happens with 4K once in a blue moon. I just switched to 1080p then back to 4K and it resynced properly and was gone.

No sorry. We are under same NDA as everyone else is. You will be getting a preview this week from us (since we received the code a bit later, otherwise it would have been today) and then a review on the 3rd. We plan on making boss guides and all that stuff as well but that's for later.

Dont worry, i was just joking. I plan to go to this game spoiler free.

Quick question. Is the quick turn still available?
Because i watched gamespot preview and they said they couldn't find any button for it.

Is this a sarcastic post? Feels like it, or suspicious cynicism, as if he’s pointing out how glowing the previews are and exaggerating them.

Pyro is Sonys UK marketing guy isnt he? he's just having a bit of fun, I'm sure.

Games gonna be bonkers to be fair.

Agreed. This was cool back when we were still in the PS4 gen and a new take on God of War was something fresh. I played this game 3 years+ ago already.

I'm sure it will be fun, and great, but this isn't why I bought a PS5. But there are lots of PS4 owners there I'm sure who are jazzed more than me, so it's all good. I just wish 'this generation' would finally come into its own.
Game isnt even out and some of you clowns have decided how good it is already. Lol jesus yall need to grow up

Funny how crossgen is a big problem all of sudden despite Elden Ring being the obvious GOTY.
We don't talk about cross-gen when it comes to ER, but you will sure as shit hear about it for GoW on here.

In fact, people were recommending playing last gen versions for locked framerates for ER.

A great game is a great game regardless the platforms, the rest is just noise.

Yeah gotta love how Ragnarok while looking this ridiculously good is being "held back" by crossgen and it's "the same" as the previous one. I don't remember any of this on any Elden Ring topic...the big GOTY contender that had plenty of performance issues in every platform from any gen.

Must be something only a PS exclusive goes through i guess.

Can’t believe they’ll get me to double dip again. First PS5, then PC. I’m too weak to wait.
This game is a PS5 exclusive, no PC port has been announced. Like GT7, HFW, TLOU, Dreams, Rift Apart, Demon's Souls or GoT to name a few relatively recent ones.

Sony will port a few games per year to PC, not all their games. In fact they'll release more new PS5 only games than PC ports per year, which means that over time the total amount (not only for that year) of PS only games will increase, not decrease. So this game may end being ported to PC or may not.

Well I tried to say that about Elden Ring and was swiftly banned from the OT. Think I also ate a short ban as well.

Looking forward to getting this and playing it.

I sincerely hope that there is no lame, woke bullshit in this story anywhere but my gut tells me there will be.

So about that GOTY, Ya'll still confident Elden Ring got it?

Yes. Elden Ring pushed and improved upon the already hugely popular Souls format, and gave us the most creatively crafted, innovative, and densely populated open world, offering compelling main and side content that never gets dull, even after 100 hours.

GoW:R will be an absolutely brilliant game, but it will be a continuation of the first game... without looking like it'll innovate all that much.

Elden Ring will still be GOTY.
