Bloober Team President Piotr Babeno revealed during GPW Innovation Day that Silent Hill 2 has been in development for three years and has already reached the late production stage. The team is currently polishing various elements of the game.

Babeno stressed that the release date of the game depends on Konami, but he said the Japanese company should share information on the subject soon .

The head of Bloober also revealed that Silent Hill 2’s budget is entirely covered by Konami. In addition, the Krakow team is already receiving funds for completing the following key milestones, and if successful, under the contract, will start earning extra money from the game.

Silent Hill 2 is being developed for PC and PlayStation 5 . Sony granted the game a one-year temporary console exclusivity.

I thought after watching the reveal it could be very far into development, given the scenes they showed and where they take place in the original game.

Of course that doesn't necessarily mean they started from the opening cutscene and developed from there, in terms of what order the work was done.

Be nice if it was due out soon. Was weird they didn't even put a year on the release of anything except Ascension as "2023"

I've always said that when a teaser is shown, it's probably 80% to 90% complete.

What I wonder is how they managed to develop it in the midst of a pandemic.

Interesting.

Kinda moot.

It is a remake contracted by a team Konami doesn't own, so I'd assume they had exact things they would allow as I know those types of deals are limited, they'll literally give out some kit or something on what can and can't be changed or have someone part of their team that is from the publisher to advise certain things. Well I know Disney and some other companies do that when they license out so its never this free reign to do what ever lol

Easily my T3 most hyped games of 2023.

I know Bloober aren't perfect but even Konami wouldn't fumble something as sure to succeed as a Sony funded remake of a cult classic.
The art direction is already too clean.

Now look, I'm not trying to hate nor am I saying it'll be shit. But people don't seem to realize that gaming back then was a handful of people and a few million dollars, the inmates were running the asylum because the risk was low. 20 people made Silent Hill, 50 made Silent Hill 2 and it shrunk to 18 near the end of development once they got a handle of the PS2 architecture.

Watch this, in the first few minutes they explain how a dirty Japanese bathroom photographed and modeled by the art director was the template for the entire art direction and that's very clearly not the case with the remake.

I'm still going to play just because it's one of my favorite games of all time, but I'm looking at this as more of one of those shot-for-shot remakes like Psycho or Funny Games

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
I thought he looked great in the mirror. Expressed the pain and confusion.

NGL some of his facial expressions, especially in the scene where he turns around and screams (I think it's supposed to be the Maria the elevator scene) it looks like those RE2/3 Remake videos with facial expressions dialed up to 1000%.

The one that stuck out to me was where he was just walking slow and aimlessly, in a daze of heavy guilt/depression with his shoulders slumped, with no care in the world that he is in the fucked up purgatory they call Silent Hill.

i dont know, it doesnt seem right, his emotion is not what i expected compared to the old one.

The old one seems lost hope, depressing and mystery to me.

The new one seems like : ( im sad, his face is way too expressive for me.

You smother your wife to death and then are stuck in your mental purgatory of hell, with those demons and realization of what you did, you’d be emotional collapsed as well.

Unless you’re a callous sociopath.

BTW does anyone has numbers of sales of SH games? at least the first 4?

Have no idea tbh, even tho i would guess SH sold great, SH2 sold better, SH3 sold good less than 2, and 4 probably sold less than 3

Going by their track record since 2019, they'd released Layers of Fear 2, Blair Witch and The Medium. All games that got around 60-70 MC ratings. Temper your expectations how good a Bloober game will be.

Their games often have decent creepy trailers, but the core gameplay when reviewed is meh and janky. On the plus side they got a highly rated established game to use as a template so it should be easier to copy and improve upon vs. create from scratch.

Don't Bloober also have another Layers of Fear game coming out in Q1 as well ?

They're not that big a studio last I checked. Their turnout rate is incredibly fast.

That pretty much sums it up.
James is very self absorbed and oblivious to everything around him.
As for expressions..we can't really criticise them as the original lack them because how much effort was required just to do what was there.

The game is bound to fail regardless. The series, really. They gave it to some pretty low tier studios, which shows their faith in it. And none of the announced games will hit the numbers they most likely want. It'll be back in the grave soon enough.

Konami had offers from a lot of studios and two was apparently very big and well known.
But Bloober got it.
Would be interesting to see the pitches for them.

Nah, you show a teaser initially, in this case, it was a long teaser.

It will come when it’s ready. It’s not going to hurt a thing other than a vocal minority arguing online.
I am just talking from a marketing point of view.

It's like: Sony has shown the template of how to present Videogames (AAA Story Driven Ones):

An in-game mood/vibes video. Then gameplay.

The point that I am trying to make is that; people in charge of Marketing/PR (I bet my three hairy balls) they don't love bad PR/Marketing.

The game being bad or good at the end, is irrelevant.

This was a Silent Hill Presentation...you are about the reboot/re-introduce a dormant IP. You are going re-make a cult classic.
+ all the rumours and leaks = people knew what are you going to show already.

I don't really understand how these people don't get the importance of the first impressions.

Well, I mean....Konami's external devs Silent Hill track record ain't that great.

I'd bet anything WayForward made a pitch.

lol true, I do feel many need to consider a lot of the bad moves Konami has done in the past. I'll still buy it, maybe not day 1, I'll wait a week to see if they done fucked it up lol
....Its going to be Incredibly fascinating. SH2 is one of three games that made me appreciate Video games as an art form. I also have this condition that makes unable to feel nostalgia.

If you see SH2 just as a video game now a days (forget about the story) it would be relegated as a "walking simulator" with unispired, clunky gameplay.

The issue here is mysticism, legendary status around this game. That everything, and I am taking literally everything is there to make SH2 what it is.

Is not bad voice acting, is oneiric; reflects a world where their inhabitants live in a confused state struggling with their demons.

Clunky gameplay. James: a weak, vulnerable man, mentally destroyed, barely competent to fight these monsters

Pyramid Head = representation of James suffering; the other half of James.

Sexy Nurses: James's sexual repression.

And blah blah blah literary marathonic analysys and essays written about it.

As a I said:

Well, if it were to, if all the upcoming SH titles were to, then Konami would have even more tarnish on their name than they already do. Which, is already at insane levels.

That alone makes me feel like they know they can NOT fail, because if they do, everything fails and they may as well just give up on making games, period.

SH2 is one of my favorite games of all time, so of course I HOPE that it's good, hell, great even. But I'm not expecting anything.
