Replay - Fallout 3 - The best Fallout?

So since I'm between jobs right now I cannot afford some of the latest releases this month until I sort out a new job and as much as I love Destiny and Overwatch, I need something to get my attention

If anyone remembers my Silent Hill threads basically I like to go back and play stuff I've missed but really should've played, this is not one of those times. Browsing through my list of games on each console, there were plenty of standouts that I've not played through fully (I will eventually play more than 10 hours of Skyrim!)and Fallout celebrating an Anniversary made the series stand out, so I figured instead of The Evil Within 2, lets go back and replay one of my favorite games ever made in Fallout 3

Now my personal history with Bethedsa games is pretty much doing the main quest then losing interest, 3 was the exception to this originally and so fuck it 100%ing it feels right this time.

I'm playing on Xbox Series X with the FPS Boost and it feels very nice, I would play on PC but my PSU is playing up on games atm for some reason (I really need an upgrade in 2023) and lets do a VAT's Melee build this time! So far I've got to Megaton

lots of fallout 3 threads lately.

Anyways, I really liked 3 too. Honestly, I can’t think of one I didn’t like a bunch. It’s a great series
I'm not a major fan of 2 tbh, I think it starts be less grounded in that one with the weird prophecy viewing stuff

It's the only Fallout I put serious time into so I can't compare it to it's predecessors or sequels but Fallout 3 is amazing by any standard.

I truly had never experienced a game like that at it's time of release, and it's still unique in my personal gaming library.

It felt like a survival horror game, I was just absolutely blown away by it. One of those games I had no clue of until the day it released, picked it up out of sheer curiosity and was just completely absorbed in it.

Speaking as an outsider to this series, 3 is the only Fallout that interests me.

I somehow have a copy of Fallout 2, but it is impossible to figure out.

I once bought New Vegas dirt cheap and played it for about 10 hours, and while it was admirable, I was not having FUN.

I watched a friend play 3 for a few hours and it looks amazing. So much personality. If I had a system that ran it, I would get 3, for sure.

I liked the map the best for sure. Fallout New Vegas had a better story and quest dialogs, but it had a very boring map to explore compared to Fallout 3 with its expansions.
Agreed. NV was actually a little disappointing my first time through because of how barren it felt. Three felt more lived in though I hated the subway sections. Dark and cramped.

NV I ended up playing several times trying to get the platinum and that’s where it shines to me. Felt like a different game each time. And survival, oh man, made a great game even better.

I've played Fallout 3 somewhere in the ballpark of 1000 hours, it's my most played game ever, it's...

One of my fav games on 360. Cleared out most of the map. Man, I must had spend endless hours just on loading screens alone! I was a hoarder too checking every nook and cranny for stuff even though most items found in Skyrim/Fallout games are junk.

I focused on Chinese assault rifles for long range battle, and the flaming sword for melee slashing.

I absolutely love it, easily my favourite Fallout game. Fallout 4 has a cool world and is loads of fun too but I like 3 better overall.

The subway system is a fantastic addition! I never had as much fun with New Vegas, I think that game is super overrated. The world is bland, tiny and boring compared to the massive world of Fallout 3.

Also, the quests and story really isn't anything special on New Vegas. Plus, the cowboy/western thing got old really quickly, it's just stupid.

For me it's

3 > 4 >>>>>> NV

Not hating on your love for 3 at all, it’s incredible, especially for it’s time - but I personally love NV. Never played 1 or 2, but I would say NV is better than 3 or 4, even though I thoroughly enjoyed those.

Hot take, Fallout 76 is way better than Fallout 3. Visuals, art direction, story, combat, exploration, music, sound design, all of it.

A real hot take? 76 is not a bad game at all, it just launched horribly, by the time wastelanders came out the game was more than playable

Too bad so many people that own the game can't even play it because it's online only and requires a monthly console subscription to access it.

The game is free on epic store.

I tried to play it on release but it was too buggy and the combat was atrociosu (so your average bethesda game).

Maybe i'm gonna try the pc version sooner or later.

But from what i played, the old games were way more charming.

There is a definite difference in tone between 1,2 and 3 onwards and all are with a playthrough

Fallout 3 was my first Fallout and first Bethesda game. I took a chance because I'd heard good things, and I was hooked. Instantly sold my OG disc copy and bought the GOTY because I knew I'd be playing it all, and I did. Twice.

NV never grabbed me in the same way that 3 did. The world wasn't as fun to explore. I didn't even bother doing DLC, although I understand that may have been a mistake.

I want to return to it all at some point, but even if I fall in love with NV 3 will always be a fantastic game in my eyes.

I think that’s why I love 3 so much and probably why I love oblivion over Skyrim, they were my first Bethesda games,

I love Fallout 3, but New Vegas is the best one for me, the branching overlaping quests and consequences of choices we're great in NV, and i liked the different settings between 3 And NV, city vs desert,

Fallout 4, a good shooter with base building, not a good rpg sadly, still would of bought and played the game, I've yet to do many replays of it,

As for the originals 1 and 2, i stopped playing isometric games in 95 after Baldurs gate, so i never played them, if Bethesda had remade them in 1st and 3rd person mode i would of.

10 days ago I dusted off my PS3, bought a replacement power cable, controller, HDMI cable, HDMI switch and fallout 3 goty disc version - all so I could platinum the game and 100% the dlcs(PS plus premium doesn't include them). First playthrough was on 360 and it's been a while but the game is still so much fun. Missed that humor which was also in the first two games.

You’re playing them on PS3? God help you lol I remember the old saying “never play Bethesda games on PlayStation “

Did it ever get that update with Mothership Zeta like the 360 did actually? X

Well, PS3 was my only option for trophies/achievements, as I'm only on playstation consoles and steam now. Steam has fallout 3, but no steam achievement support. The saying is right, skyrim on ps3 I heard was a nightmare. I don't know about the mothership zeta thing, is that a bug fix?

I like 3s world and atmosphere more than NVs, but NV was stronger when it came to actual RPG mechanics.

FNV is only better in RPG mechanics and that is it. Everything else was shit. F3 has the best atmosphere and its miles ahead in creativity, from a creepy cannibal town to that place where they dressed as villains/heroes or that creepy VR thing. Fallout NV was generic af in its creativity. I think people were blind af when they played New Vegas. Fallout 3 is the superior game,

First off, i've not played any of them until I started a playthrough recently of Fallout 4, i'm at about level 15 at the mo.

I'm enjoying the game so far but I can see that there isn't a whole lot of love for it compared to the others. The world is huge and detailed and there seems to be a good variety of enemies and weapons. There are several perks that can give you different options such as lockpicking and hacking although they don't seem to make a massive difference to the progression except maybe giving access to the objective without having to fight several extra enemies to find a passcode or a key. The game isn't riddled with MTs (although does have quite a bit of DLC) or any forced woke crap so what is it that makes this entry of the series less liked than the others?

Several people have mentioned the dialogue and characters? I must admit I am not a fan of long dialogues and tend to skip through them to the choices quite a bit once I get the idea of what the conversation is about.

If the earlier games are genuinely better then I look forward to playing them once I get through F4

One of my all time favourite/most played games. Was so excited for NV after, but it didn't grab me. And I've tried 4 a couple of times but bounced off - will go back to it at some point though.

The choice's and dialogue don't make much of a difference or which faction you side with, you end up with mostly the same outcome.
