Wifi is too laggy for any gameplay but I do see it possible that someone will hack it to work with a phone at some point
I’ve streamed VR games via WiFi and had zero issues. That’s how I played and beat Asgard’s Wrath, Rick & Morty VR and Half Life Alyx, on my quest 2.

Eeek, £100 more than I was anticipating. I’ll still get it, but probably not day 1.

If Sony doesn't sell an adapter themselves, at the very least someone would need to make it work with a "reverse" USB-C -> USB3 + DisplayPort adapter, and those will take a while to appear because AFAIK they don't even exist in the market.

Otherwise I guess the headset can only be used by the owners of reference 6800XT/6900XT and/or future 7900XT GPUs (i.e. GPUs with USB-C outputs).
I'd actually be okay with that because I own a 6900XT, but I doubt the owners of reference Navi 21 cards present a critical mass for PC adoption.

On my PSVR I played Astro Bot, Battlezone, Bound, Driveclub, Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes (way too many hours with friends & wife on this one), PSVR Worlds, Resident Evil VII and Until Dawn: Rush of Blood.

I only used my Move controllers on that last one.
When I played PSVR Worlds I'd say that the shooting part was very compelling with moves, i don't know why you didn't used the motion controllers for this one. Basically after the shooting part the game didn't require a controller at all.
Anyway there are a lot of good PSVR games that without free hand controllers the experience would be very compromised.
Imho is a small price but enormous user experience improvement (I even bought the PSVR Aim controller and totally was worth it imho, but that one I clearly understand that isn't a must have at all)

I expected this to sell well initially, before basically stopping cold until the catalogue filled out and the price came down. Launching at price with that line up? I'm not sure it'll launch as strong as I initially expected. They really needed to secure PSVR1 backwards compatibility, and a strong day one killer app. Hope the folks who want it still enjoy it, though.

classic Sony....make something too expensive so nobody will buy it. Then they will stop making games after a year or two like always.
This thing will be price cut DEEP 1 year after launch. no doubt
Of course they will then place the blame on consumers for lack of games because few people bought it early on. For some reason they don't understand that games sell the device but they should considering how their Playstation console lives and dies by this philosophy.

For those of us already well acquainted with VR and the technologies that drive it, it's a premium spec piece of kit at a great price.
For those laypeople in the wider market, it's bloody expensive.

And for me, it's an insta-buy for Cities VR alone. Fucking love city-builder games!

Thing is there are a bunch of games that work great in VR with just some simple mods, the RE remakes, Alien Isolation to name the ones I have personally tried. With a little bit of polish they could be full VR game releases or even just patches to the existing games if you already own them. Sony should have reached out to devs and offered to fund the conversions, then you would have stuff to show that is several steps above Quest 2 visuals for limited financial outlay.

I wonder if it will look better on the PSVR2 than the Quest 2. I’ve been on the fence with getting it. The reviews are kind of all over the place, and it seems like it’s not the “whole” game.

When will they create game like half life alyx?

I think people are sick of those cartonish vr games and Sony needs to take this more serious and make something alyx quality.

Closest is Horizon i think, but thats not enough

I personally think they’ve priced themselves out of the market with this price. Time will tell however. No way I could justify a dualsense edge and a PSVR2 so close together. I’m sure this will be unbelievable but I have so many normal games to play in my backlog I can probably wait for a price drop on this. I’m sure call of the mountain will be phenomenal.

I make decent money but Sony are pricing out the causal market big time with this. Maybe that’s the allure they’re going for. The “Apple” of gaming if you will.

This looks like it's dead in the water, but if it's going to be good it likely couldn't come in any cheaper than this. At the very least they need to make sure this supports PC, but then what would the PC experience with this even be like? It needs to have application beyond just the usual. But even if it doesn't, my main issue with VR is that games are being dumbed down in many instances. And for ones that maybe aren't, there's not enough of them to ever make it worthwhile. I would also sooner play a typical 3rd or 1st person game with a VR helmet and a normal controller in my hand before I want to play these specially made for VR games.

I just don’t think this will reach the sales of the first unit, especially at that price. No way the same casual type consumers will pay this price, regardless of its actual value. Which sucks, because as someone that’s into VR, when more VR platforms do well, it could move the medium into more hands.

My hopes was the PSVR2 and Quest 4 would share a ton of the same games. And if both strived, it would be fantastic. This price worries me, just like the price of the possible high priced Quest 3 is worrying me.

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
Yep. Shitty exchange rate plus tax.
They didn't use the exchange rate to price that fucker, they never do
They just pick a number similar to the US and said that'll do.
The only time they used the exchange rate was for the PS3 and the US shait themselves over it because they was actually paying the same we was.

PSVR1 full kit, cam and controllers was around the same price and PSVR2 is a massive improvement over that tech. This headset is the standard other headsets should aim for from now on imo.

Day 1 for me.

Wait…

So because PS are so scared of Game Pass you won’t even be able to watch VR porn on this thing because there is no PS5 browser?

:messenger_tears_of_joy:

Phil Spencer out here blue ballin’ the PS crew and devaluing their hardware.

They might as well have charged $1000 for it when you think about it. The people that want it will pay whatever, and those on the fence or not interested would still say "it's too much" either way.

Sony was happy with over 5 million sold of PSVR (and this was announced back in 2020). So much so they have a PSVR2 coming out.

Some people are jumping through mental hoops with talking about other headsets that don't work on their platform.
5 million is abysmally small for any “platform” that requires expensive dev support. Don’t expect healthy software ecosystem at those numbers. Vita had 20 million users and was considered a failure.

The price is so high I don't see how it could take off. Which means nobody will make games for it after a while.

I think I'm out unless games are incredible.

Wait, what the fuck? You can’t watch VR porn on the PS5? That’s like, at least 33% of the reason to have VR.

Just saw the game trailers. Uggh everything still has like ps2 lvl of graphic details.
RE8 doesn’t.

That is not true at all. I had a price in mind and they actually came in $50 less. If they were over it I would move on and wait for a price drop. I know many other people are in the same boat. So does Sony.

Was very excited for it like so many, but then I see the ¥75000 price in Japan and I’m like that’s a very easy pass. Real shame as I love the original psvr but that price is just way too high.

This is why I think Nintendo is the only company that could bring VR to the mass market. The art style and toaster-specs their games use lend themselves perfectly to the lower power of wireless headsets. AstroBot is amazing, but nothing would top stepping into the Mushroom Kingdom or Hyrule.

How many of you guys who are getting this wear glasses? Registered to pre-order but have never tried vr and I wear glasses for moderate myopia/very mild presbyopia. Don't use contacts. Is wearing glasses going to be a problem?

I wear glasses. For the Quest 2, I use the included glasses spacer, as well as these rubber ring things to go around the VR lenses. The rings prevent my glasses frame from touching/scratching the lenses.

I can’t speak for PSVR1/2 though. I’m sure there are similar accessories.

I’m in day one

Edit: I’m out after reading the price!!! more expensive than an actual PS5, I’m expecting this to be a premium unit though and from the specs it sounds like it will be, but bloody hell that’s expensive in these times of recession.
With inflation it's actually cheaper than the original. $400 in 2016 is the equivalent to $495 today and you needed to buy a camera for $60! It just was the headset.

This thing is both cheaper (sans quest 2) and technologically superior to every consumer headset out there.

You can’t have both cheap and high quality. You can also use it as a tv if you want for flat games. It’s probably going to be better than your tv anyway unless you’re rocking an lg or Sony oled.

I wear glasses, it makes it less comfortable and makes taking the headset off and on kind of a pain (my glasses usually get 'stuck' in the headset, but it is not a deal breaker by any means.

Indies carry VR. It’s been this way for quite some time now.

It sold more than most PCVR and yet they keep making new headsets there. It’s not a mainstream device, and you can’t compare it to a console itself.

They didn’t see it as a failure. Hell, most didn’t expect 5m.

Hell, it sold more than most games, even the GOAT Bloodborne.
