What is your favorite PS UI and what features or structures do you wish the PS5 UI had? What do you like about the PS5 UI?

I love that the PS Store is now integrated within the UI rather than a separate application. Think this is one of the biggest improvements from the PS3 and PS4. Was an absolute pain trying to buy games and having to wait for the app to load. I think they need to make it easier to find games within the PS Store though. You should be able to search by developer and publisher or within franchises.

I really wish it had a true quick resume feature and I can't believe we don't have proper folder management, which to me should have been the first thing they worked on. Another thing I was thinking about looking back on the PS1 and PS2 is that they should give you options for quick boot up directly to the game that is loaded on the disc drive or the last game played. Back in the day, if you had a game loaded on PS1 or PS2 you skipped any system menus and went directly into the game, that should still be an option now.

The more time you can spend JUST playing the game the better, completely eliminate load times and limit menu interaction, that would be my design philosophy, which is why I think having a folder management system (that's well thought out) is so important. The ability for me to quickly find games that I own that I want to play currently or games that I have next in my backlog is really useful, and right now it's a pain to manage this. The folder system doesn't remove games from the primary library (nor can you hide them), you can't sort or organize games within folders, it's just based on the order in which you added games to the folder.

I know that quick resume is a bit broken on XSX/S but I really thought this generation would easily deliver on this, so I'm a bit disappointed that we still have fairly considerable load times (relative to pre-disc generations). I'm hoping the next-gen with PCIE6 blows this away.

None. I've always loved simple grids (iphone / android / Wii / Wii U), and no Sony console has ever adopted this.

The XMB will forever be the greatest console UI.

Simple, elegant and beautiful with everything you need close to one another.

The customisation with themes on the PS3 too was amazingly well done too. Made everyone’s home screens feel unique and personal.

PS4 and PS5’s UIs have been a step backwards in my eyes.

I voted vita, but on reflection I can imagine it would be awful if you have hundreds of games.

But as a touch screen device and playing the games I could fit on the memory card it was great.

PS2 mostly for the iconic boot up sound and it was my first ever console. I didn't find out that the squares in the menu background actually meant how many saves you had until years later, shit blew my mind.

Outside of a few misplaced idea regarding the PSN tab the PS3 XMB still looks incredible each time I boot my PS3 today.

Ps4 closley followed by ps3.

Also ps5 store ui sucks ass., i use to casually browse the ps4 store to discover stuff don't even bother with the ps5. It's fast but just don't like the navigation.

PS3 hands down.
Easy to use, customizable, logical and fast.
I use it with my batocera PC as it is the easiest way to find any content.

Reverse groomer.
PS2 has form but PS3 has function.... and form
future PS UIs will never surpass the simplicity of the XMB. even fucking retroarch uses it, thats how good it is

PS3 for sure. PS4 and 5 I’ve never got used to there being two different menus when you either push or hold down the PS button, so cumbersome

Even cross- consoles and generations its the Ps4. Sick dynamic themes with the ost and fucking folders. Fuck me I would sit around listening to witcher 3 theme or the persona 5 theme for a few minutes before deciding what to play everytime.

PS5 UI is the fastest from turn on to being in a game, so PS5. Also the store integration is MUCH better in the PS5 which is the result of moving the store native instead of using the terribly slow web browser on the PS3 and PS4.

I'm going with 5 though I feel most people dislike it quite a bit. To me it's an improvement over 4.

I like how fast it is with ps5 to get everywhere but looks and feel was the best on ps3

I voted 4 because my poor old ps3 would struggle with the menus. However, an updated and snappy version of that would be chefs kiss

PS2.

just let me play a game. i'm not interested in anything else. it all went downhill with PS3 with the shit they added.

of course physical games are ancient and dying out so it doesn't make sense to have a PS2 UI anymore. if i had my way i'd make the PS5/PS6 UI nothing but the PS store and system settings of course. in the store you can search games, pick one to buy, see your digital library, and download them. that's it. fuck the rest. the first thing i'd ditch is trophies. get them so far to fuck.

look at the Switch UI. that's more what i'm thinking as it's almost perfection! but even on that i'd also ditch the screenshots and news section. i buy consoles to play games not for all the other extra added crap. nintendo has done a great job focusing on the games.

PS3 had an elegant charm to it but outside of that sucked. Navigation was easy but it was slow as heck! Didn't even have in-game xmb at first and you couldn't download in the background, you had to sit and wait for a whole game to download.

The PS3 xmb is really bad at dealing with long lists.

There only true benefit I grant too it is the speed, however the UI on ps4 and 5 it not lagging either and it has more/better features (ps4 is still better than ps5 in this regard).

I agree that it's the XMB. For the PS6, Sony should just make a snappier, more fleshed out version of that. For one, the games icon should be 2nd or 3rd, not near the end. And if you highlight it and push down, it drops you down into a menu with all the games listed in a grid.

Speaking of PS consoles and their UI/startup sounds...

I don’t worry too much about UI, but the PS5 UI seems great to me. I like how fast everything is. Some of the little things, like when skipping through installed games, they have their own accompanying musical score and title screen; then you can easily access the games trophies and hints, etc., it’s all good.

Ps3 was great, minimalist and to the point.
I'd love to see a modern take of it with the responsiveness of the Ps5 and some modern features (like rest mode, automatic downloads, screenshots, etc)

It'll never be like PS3 again, that was the gold standard. Design today is very much about how much marketing and advertising can they fit on the screen.

Really couldn’t manage that with digital games.

The advent of digital demands a UI

Really just flooded with blocks, advertisements. The change from ps3 to ps5 menus isn’t that severe.
