Halo Infinite Launch Was Like A Runner Tripping And Falling At The Finish Line, Xbox Boss Says

More like not realizing that they have 2 more laps to go and then walking off the track at the finish line to present the half-finished game.

This is going to be a solid game in 2024. Plenty others have come back. Cyberpunk, sea of thieves, master chief collection, ff14, no man sky, rainbow six siege etc

As an analogy it’s not quite right tho.

It’s more like they decided to run a 10 mile race. They tripped and fell so at one point they decided to start the race again, then decided 10 miles is just too hard, so made it a 4 miles race. Then made it 3/4 of the way through, realised they were super out of shape and exhausted, so they just moved the finish line a mile closer. Then patted themselves on the back for completing a 3 mile race. They then immediately booked themselves into a few marathons over the coming year. Promising themselves they’d actually train for it this time…but it was cold outside so they just binge watched shows on Netflix.

I really liked Halo 4, also a showcase on the hardware .
Half the community left the multi a month after launch and never returned. It was awful and not halo. The single player wasn't much better and the new enmoes were not fun at all to fight. It did look good though.

Maybe, I'm in the minority, but I actually enjoyed the campaign quite a bit - and the multiplayer is decent too.

Yes, I know it launched missing features (which most AAA games do these days) and some felt it wasn't vintage Halo.

I was never a massive Halo fan, having been a PlayStation 1, 2, and 3 owner until a bit later in the Xbox 360 life cycle when I finally bought one and played Halo 3.

I liked it and more recently I dipped back into the MCC via Game Pass and I do see the appeal.

But, I was never a real hardcore fan so maybe that's why I was a little more forgiving with Infinite and took it at face value.

I played it on pc and I thought it looked ok, the guns felt great and there were lots of them, the enemies were varied and interesting, the vehicles were a nice addition, the grapple hook was fantastic and allowed for some genuine freedom with regards navigating the landscape.

As I said above, I also found the multiplayer fun and engaging - it needed a few extra maps and game modes, but I'm sure they've been added since a last got on.

Personally, I'd recommend it.
Thats not an excuse. Im not giving any publisher a pass for releasing a “put it out now, finish it with patches” type game. Its fucking inexcusable. The way they launched halo infinite was a sham. Despite the good gameplay, its currently the worst game in the series for me because its flat out unfinished. Its pure incompetence

I don't know that I'd go that far.

Then again, I don't know the series well enough to know if any staples were left out.

All I know is it had a long, enjoyable campaign and a good multiplayer.

Booty couldn’t even accurately state why Infinite failed. It wasn’t an issue of a lack of a post launch content stream, it was a lack of content in general, ESPECIALLY at launch. There’s no excuse for long time favorite modes missing from launch.
I'd say Matt lost the plot, but that would imply that he had it in the first place.

I found that the campaign was devoid of the variety that made earlier games so memorable. Its story basically said “fuck you” to anyone who was invested in the plots of halo 4 and 5 like i was, and it used many copy paste enviroment. Missing online co op is huge. Coop has been a halo staple for the entire series. Its absence was for me, totally unacceptable. The mulitplayer has a great base, but it launched undercooked, with a focus on microtransactions. The fact that the game is still unfinished, a full year after launch, after a 6 year development cycle which included a full year delay, just shows how incompetent 343 has become

Well, I enjoyed the campaign and I can only speak for myself.

No one wants another Sony monopoly. Halo Infinite is intrinsically linked to the success of the Xbox platform and really the only hope to keep Sony in check.

The media knows that a Sony monopoly isn't good for it, and consumers know the same thing, whether they be PC fans, Sony fans, or Microsoft fans.
Yea because halo is what is keeping sony from a monopoly. There is no monopoly in the console space.

Did anyone say there was a monopoly?

Is Halo Microsoft's biggest franchise, by far? Without Halo what happens to this ecosystem? It would shrink tremendously and I think they should be afraid of Bungie's new relationship with Sony.

I'd love to hear your breakdown of the Xbox platform and who buys it and why. Everything adds up, not sure how that is controversial to you.

... Says the Head of Xbox. Is this guy for real? The Xbox first party output is average at best and Halo infinite development appears to of been a bit of a travesty.
This guy trips up on a daily basis..

Game is dead, kind of tired of hearing about how badly it failed at this point
Precisely!

I know money is the general motivating factor with a lot of these things, but forget the short-term money; they need to think long-term sustainability and growth. The brand doesn't have the value it once had, but it can be reclaimed.

I'd put a team aside to work on a new Halo. If I don't have the numbers to do that; I'd hire more and see where I can save money or redirect resources, and try my best to do so without a bunch of layoff. That said, some people will have to go. There's no room, time and money to be spent on people who are dead weight or pulling Halo down. A complete clean up would be in order. While the larger team works on Infinite, the smaller team would be working on a new Halo; a Halo that will deliver everything Infinite was supposed to deliver, and then some. As Infinite comes to its end, and the new Halo gets larger in scope, I'd slowly usher across the staff/resources from Infinite, towards the new Halo. Fuck it; I'd call it Halo Infinite Rebirth, and by golly I was going to deliver!

Halo Infinite is more akin to a family running a marathon, taking a wrong turning, getting lost for 2 years, spending millions of dollars on hotels and then showing up at the finish without the wife and child.

It's a shame as the combat is some of the best I've ever played and the grappling hook really makes a huge difference to how you can take on those bigger bases but the whole thing feels like a proof of concept and not something they have spent years on.

Is throwing your developers under the bus normal? How does it help anyone?

Jesus I actually prefer how Sony does it: don't communicate, ignore "fans", just make games and fuck influencers and ecelebs.
None of this HOW DO YOU DO FELLOW GAMERS nonsense.

This game can’t be that bad. It is going to my goal to play it through this Christmas break
It's not. What you have are a bunch of people piling onto the bad publicity the game received for delayed content. For what was supposed to be a live service game with frequent content drops, the content has been a ridiculously long drip feed instead with year long delays on a lot of basic features. The base game was met universal praise. Infinite is a fun game and it's far from being dead. While it has a lot of issues, I personally believe that focusing on adding new maps more than anything else would massively improve player engagement. The release of the forge beta is going to help, especially once Infinite has a custom games browser and a dedicated forge playlist.

Have you played Forge yet? Most who have jumped in said it is fantastic. I'd wager most of the detractors in this thread haven't played it at all.

I have not yet played any of the forge maps but I've seen a lot of good things being said. The maps that have been created look outstanding. I can't wait to see what is created down the road.

So many dumb takes on this forum about Halo. Than again, most haven't even played the game and are just talking out their ass. The core game is great.

How do you fuck up your baby when you have so much money. They should be able to hire the most talented efficient people possible. Can someone explain how you fuck this up?

Most talented? Have you seen large developers these days? They hire based on skin and hair color and how unique your gender is.

It doesn’t matter how talented or efficient the people you hire are if you aren’t able to manage team dynamics. By hiring and acquiring as rapidly as Microsoft have, they greatly underestimated the complexity of integration. I honestly believe that’s why their investments shifted from studio acquisition to publisher acquisition. Acquiring large scale operations along with IPs and talent is much easier than duct taping a handful of teams to your existing infrastructure.

I have no doubt that Microsoft Game Studios could become a force to be reckoned with but effectively managing talent is easier said than done and MGS have never shown competency in the area. Something like Bungie leaving Xbox and joining Sony is a prime example of that.

people are still asking this in 2022?

People get hired based on gender/race/sexual and political orientation and not based on talent/qualifications. The talented people simply don´t get hired anymore unless they happen to be a minority, a woman or gay and liberal (ideally all of it). This has been going on for almost a decade now in every facet of the workforce and we are reaping the rewards of this. Western Video games/movies have never been worse than they are now.

If we use sports as an analogy then essentially we live in a world now where mens sports has been abolished and you are only allowed to watch inferior women sports. If you then say you prefer to watch Ronaldo, Messi, Lebron, Tom Brady, etc... over women sports then you are being called a racist, bigot, sexist, incel, etc...

We are essentially only getting video games now that were developed by the C or D team of a company because the A and B team has been benched/fired for being too white and male.

I’m guessing you didn’t see the GOW ragnarok team? I think they’re game turned out alright…

the game might be good, but it will be forgotten within a month. It´s not a timeless classic that will still be talked about in 10+ years.

We will never get truly groundbreaking Western games again like Half Life, Diablo 2, Left4Dead2, Halo: Combat Evolved, GTA 3, etc... because the people with talent/passion don´t work in the industry anymore and have been replaced by diversity hires and political activists. Hence all the games we get nowadays are remakes or franchise sequels that are worse games than their predecessors.

Luckily we still have Nintendo and some Eastern European devs who still make great games. Although it´s only a matter of time until they also get infected by the woke virus.

I just got to play this game after holding off for a year waiting for co-op.
It definitely exceeded my expectation with how fun it is (just the campaign, I'm more of a SP/co-op kinda player).
The sandbox is quite good, with all the weapons, vehicles, and gadgets, especially the zipline thing.
It's probably my favorite Halo game and also the best FPS game I've ever played.
Too bad about the launch though, seems they were trying to do too much and also hamstrung themselves with the old gen consoles.
