Xbox France: There are not enough Xbox Series X in circulation to meet demand this holiday. (Supply shortage)

According to the director of Xbox France, there are not enough consoles in circulation to meet demand, and the shortage will not be reduced immediately.

The two manufacturers will once again not be able to meet the high demand for the upcoming holiday season, and not everyone will have the opportunity to put a PS5 or an Xbox Series X on the market. foot of the tree again this year.
A situation commented on by Ina Gelbert, director of Xbox for France, quoted by Challenges : “ It’s simple, since the release of the Xboxes, there hasn’t been a quiet week. “, she says.
We still have people on the previous generation who cannot move to the next generation. We don’t have enough for now “, admits the manager, who thus confirms that the fall will not make it possible to remedy the shortage of Xbox Series X.

A dependency on China

Worse, Ina Gelbert indicates that ” it will take quite a long time “. She doesn’t give details on a possible shortage exit window, but it looks like 2023 is likely to remain a complicated year in terms of inventory, according to Microsoft’s forecast.
Industry manufacturing issues and raw material availability have actually not improved over time “, explains Laurent Michaud, economist of the video game, to Challenges. He recalls that the Covid-19 is still raging in China, the country leading a health policy much stricter than in Europe, with frequent confinements and closings of factories.

Looks like even with stockpiling the Xbox Series X (not S) won't have enough product to meet demand worldwide this holiday season based on Xbox's projections. I assume the same is true for Sony based on their recent lower than expected production.

It looks like at the earliest mid 2023 may start to see real improvement, but it could be as late as fall next year if things don't trend upward by then.

Microsoft is still selling almost every Xbox Series X (not S) they can make. Especially in retail stores, people who are looking at online retailers better get theirs quick before the holiday rush starting next week.

I was at Target today (NY). They had 1 Series X, 2 Series S consoles, 4 Series X all access.

They also had about 4 Switch regular consoles, 2 OLED Switches, and a bunch of Switch lites.

They had 0 PS5 consoles.

Just thought id share.

That is not enough for people.
What would 100 people do with that many xbox?

But how much of this is a direct result of Microsoft prioritizing SS over SX? I can understand why Sony would potentially have this issue considering the release of GoW Ragnarok (although PS5 supply is expected to surge significantly throughout the holiday season because of this), but Series X should be more reasonable to attain (lower demand) due to absence of major release. I would bet limited SX supply is because most of MS manufacturing capacity is committed to SS.

Xss is easy to produce unlike xsx. Especially with some of xss parts being more available, unlike xsx.

It'd why we see more xss compared to xsx. For every xsx, there are 2-3 xss.

Pure conjecture, and extremely unlikely. While S is there to fulfill a market need, they probably lose way more per unit on S machines. Also all machines will likely be hard to get in a couple of weeks. Back to normal after in Jan.

I haven't seen any sales figures to support this at all. Certain not at that ratio.

Retails stores in Australia will have PS5 units on the shelves for the first time this generation (department stores etc), at least for the holidays. I am not sure if Series X is in a similar situation or not. There are many Switch systems available, never an issue. I think they over shipped to this region. Could send some to France for some Subs.

The other day I went into a Walmart and they had a lot of switches. And a couple of ps5 machines. They had zero xbox consoles.

No way. Microsoft recently admitted they lose $100-$200 per Series console. Clearly the SX is the $200 loss while SS is $100 loss. If it was as you claimed, then SS manufacturing cost would be $499 vs $599 for SX, which makes no sense whatsoever.

XSX is more powerful, and needs expensive parts.
Xss parts are cheap. But the price point is at 100$ loss, due to 300$ sale.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
smh 2 years and we're still not at a point where one can walk in a store and reliably be able to buy a new-gen console.

the chip shortage and covid related shake ups and its effect is still being felt very strongly.

I cry about Xbox and hate PlayStation.
Looks like jim has timed exclusivity on chipsets and parts.

Yeah, I'm not disagreeing with anything you're saying here. THE DUCK THE DUCK was suggesting Series S consoles are sold at a greater loss than SX, which could only be true if the difference in manufacturing costs were only $100 between the two; It would be much higher due to SX having much larger silicon and other more expensive parts as you're saying.

Since launch, every time I've been in a Walmart or Best Buy in Toronto, I've never seen a Series X or PS5. Some Walmart stores even have a sign on the the glass saying they dont even carry them at store level and if you want one buy it online.

Yes, the Target closest to me still does that. They took the similar sign off of Best Buy but I haven't seen beyond a few Series S's every now and then in the stores.

I think people are reading way too much into that comment. I saw the interview in question and Spencer was just explaining how the console market differed from the phone market and why consoles are often sold at a loss. He never said that one console lost $100 and the other $200.

I can easily see how the X might be sold at loss but I don't really think the S is.

Xss is at a $300. That is already a loss at the price point.
If it was $400, maybe.

This isn’t true in the US.

I went to NYC for a week last month and was able to leave with a PS5 for me but couldn’t find a Series X for my son, had to buy a Series S.

See? This is all anecdotal, all in all, both consoles are still not readily available TWO years later.

We will see how many PS5s ship worldwide vs Xbox Series X/S. There’s no chip shortage anymore, so either you’re just making enough to about meet demand because you want to manage perception or you’re taking a big hit on HW costs and want to reduce loss.

If PlayStation can increase production so can Xbox. Hard pill to swallow if it means believing somehow you can only produce around half of what the competition can.

No, it's easily the other way around. There is about $100 more parts in the series X and it sells for $200 more.

I’m not taking anecdotes. If want one this holiday in the US you’ll be able to get one online. Most major retailers have stock just waiting for the big holiday shopping dates to be posted online.
