The Dualsense is a more elegant controller than the xbox core controller.

I liked the One controller when it came out, as an upgrade to the 360 pad, but I am surprised MS ran it back the way they did. Especially without a gyro. Even compared to the DS4 it felt a bit primitive but now? just old-fashioned.

I have big fuck off ungabunga gorilla hands and I’ve found the Series X controller is more comfortable as it’s easier to grip. I do prefer DualSense but if the X controller had a bit more heft and the HaPtIcS then I’d probably favour that more

I dunno, I prefer the Instinct Pro over the Elite controller. To each their own though.
Absolutely. For me though coming from a v2 the sticks felt too loose, too plasticky, the top 2 back buttons awkward to use and like i said sneeze on it and the hair triggers break. I did like the triggers how you could switch them so they felt like a micro switch, until they busted.

I was looking for an alternative to the elite after the buttons game up on the v2 after like 18 months hoping for better reliability but ended up going back. Like you said each to their own, glad you had better luck than me, glad you like it.

Did i mention it broke? Yes I'm still salty. lol.

Nailed it. Even Nintendo adopted that style with the Pro Conteoller. My most used pads on PC.

The DS4 is great for fighters and 2D stuff.
Nintendo and Xbox released the stick placement style at the same time with GC and first Xbox controllers, I love how this is a great coincidence, that's not only natural to human hands but it looked kind of cool at the time, like "next gen sign" to me

I like it a lot. However I got drifting in my first controller within like 9 months. The haptics, adaptive triggers etc. are really great. As far as xbox controllers go, the the 360 is still my favorite and would actually prefer those ergonomics but with the tech the of the dualsense.

The playstation controller wins out simply because of stick placement. Xbox really needs to stop worrying so much about it looking "iconic" and just place the left stick where it makes sense.
i agree and disagree. by far prefer the playstation style placement of the sticks for rpgs and normal gaming. anything fps / 3ps / shooting related it's definitely the xbox controller for me.

I had a chance to compare (ie use both in a short space of time) during TGS in September and I definitely think I preferred the Xbox controller (coming from someone who preferred the DS4 over the Xbox One controller).

Difficult to explain why, just felt better in my hands.

As someone who's had both systems since the dawn of time, I always preferred xbox controllers because stick placement just suits me better and overall it fits perfectly in my hands. I got Elite 2 )Core) a month ago and it is chef's kiss. No contest, really.

Dual shock have better triggers for me..

Xbox, the better stick placement.

I'd put them both on an equal footing because of that, however the back paddles on the elite are the real game changer.

I think we can all agree that they are both leagues ahead of the arthritis and cramp inducing joy cons. Those things are dog shit.

The only redeeming feature, is the ability to play split handed whilst lounging on a sofa.

Love the Dualsense but I'll admit is slightly too big for my hands. I still prefer it over the Xbox Series X controller tho.
The surface of the XSX controller feels good to touch and the joysticks and triggers are decent, I'll give it that but I can't stand how loud it is and the buttons feel cheap to me.

Regarding symbols and analog joysticks placement, I feel it's a habits thing. I grew up with PlayStation so it's just better for me. When I play with the XSX controller, sometimes I still need a second to remember "Oh right, RB, RT is R1, R2".

Wish Sony would release an official dongle for wireless full functionality on PC.

How does it make sense?

Do you have thumb on different position related to other fingers on left and right hand?

Symmetrical stick placement is just more ergonomic and natural.

With xbox placement you either have to grip left hand differently, to get thump in comfortable/similar position or keep it more "close to other fingers".

With playstation placement both thumbs sit directly on sticks in neutral/relaxed position. And there is no downside, all other buttons are easily accessible.

You and other getting used to 360 placement doesnt mean it makes more sense.

to my hands playstation controllers have been much more ergonomic since ds4, old ones had sticks too close.

So, objectively symmetrical is just better. Asymmetrical is like having 2 displays, one on desk level, one high up, and calling it better because you got used to it.

I have gotten used to series x controller, but is still doesnt feel as natural as dualsense, sticks are bit too high and left stick is still in weird place. It also feels less high tech + triggers are worse and rumble feels like ps3 controller.

But it is idiotic to claim that one is great and one is non-usable, both work.

Maybe you should really try to use dualsense and not claim it is only like that because of some imaginary iconic placement?

I can admit, that xbox style isnt as bad as I thought, but it is not better to me personally.

The Xbox 360 controller was one of my favorite controllers of all time.

From there it’s gone to absolute shit. Xbox One controller is light, plastic and awful.

Xbox Series, light and clicky as fuck, feels incredibly basic in every way.

I’m not buying Elite controllers, fuck you. Xbox controllers have become the cheapest feeling controllers I’ve ever felt.

I understand the PlayStation battery issue is a problem, years from now wired only isn’t ideal. However, AA batteries is low rent ass shit.

Completely made me want to play games anywhere but there and still does.

Your thumbs naturally rest on the d-pad and face buttons if you pick up a dualsense or dual shock. Its a legacy from PSX where the analog stick was optional so the d-pad was prioritized on the left side. Your thumbs naturally rest on the left stick and the buttons if you pick up an xbox or nintendo pro controller because modern games prioritize the left stick more than the right stick. Resting your thumbs on both sticks is the learned behavior since you don't naturally make a C shape with your fingers. We are all just used to it because the PSX and PS2 established dual stick controllers.

I've explained this in another post already, but the stick locations on Playstation controllers are not in the neutral or relaxed position, and this short video explains why. If you pick up a Playstation controller without reaching for anything, your thumbs will naturally move towards the D pad and the face buttons. You have to reach for the sticks, which originally made sense because the PS1 primarily used the D pad for character movement with the left stick being optional.

The separate sticks have no effect on your grip because you're not holding or gripping the controller with your thumb. Symmetrical stick placement is not more ergonomic or natural.

It's not objectively better and saying that we got "used to 360 placement" shows a misunderstanding of controllers. Pretty much every single controller for any major console has the left thumb stick in the neutral position and the D pad below or to use your terms: In the 360 placement location.

Gamecube. Dreamcast. Switch joycons. Switch pro controller. Every Xbox system. Because it just makes way more sense to have the stick in that location.
Maybe you should really try to use dualsense and not claim it is only like that because of some imaginary iconic placement?
I have. I think it's a great controller in every single way besides the stick placement. It's not that it's terrible or bad or unusable, but it just makes so much more sense to place the left stick in the neutral position.

Your thumbs naturally rest on the d-pad and face buttons if you pick up a dualsense or dual shock. Its a legacy from PSX where the analog stick was optional so the d-pad was prioritized on the left side. This is actually a fantastic way to describe it.

"Premium" isn't a universal adjective. I wouldn't consider either game controller a premium product. User replaceable batteries are always a plus. There is no downtime if your controller runs out of battery mid game. I grab a pair of batteries off the charger and I am back in within a minute. Internal batteries are more annoying to replace when they inevitably fail.

Dual sense is better than DS4 but only because Sony is inching closer to the Xbox form factor. I prefer Xbox for stick placement and height. Sony's short close sticks make my hands cramp. The DS4 was easier to deal with because Xbox sticks fit in without effort. The added height is a godsend for big hands. I did the same for dual sense but I had to grind the sticks a bit to make them fit.

I'm gonna teach you something that will blow your mind: If the DualSense battery runs out mid game you can just plug in the cable and then KEEP PLAYING while it's charging! Amazing, I know!

And when your battery dies you need to disassemble your DualSense controller to put another cheap china battery in while I continue to cycle through the same rechargeable batteries that I use for everything in my house. Are you really so much of a fanboy that you think user replaceable batteries are bad?

I've never had a controller battery die, usually other shit breaks before that so you need to get a new one anyway. But sure, the battery life does degrade of course. That wasn't the argument I was disputing though, it was about what happens if the battery runs out mid game. Which is not an issue. Arguably it's faster to just plug in a USB cable than it is to replace the batteries in an Xbox controller.

Xbox controller has been fucking garbage since the release of Xbox One.

The 360 controller was perfect.

Dual Shock 4 was miles better than the XboxOne looser than retired hooker's legs controller.

The Series X is slightly better than XboxOne with slightly better sticks.

Compared to Dual Sense, there is no comparision. DUAL Sense is the best console controller I have used.

It's a huge improvement over the travesty that is the ds4. I quite like it. But it's stick placement is still awkward, and every xbox owner should be saving thier pennies for elite core, which is definately better.
Just glad both consoles this time around came with very good controller.

If you happen to have a cable that reaches to where you are sitting and are happy with cables across the room then point conceded. Its seriously less issue to grab 2 batteries off a charger and be back to wireless in under a minute. The battery life is longer too compared to the play and charge kits both in terms of mah and lifespan of the batteries. Internal batteries suck.

I’ve got series 20th anniversary controller for pc use and it’s great. I just really dislike the clicky micro switch buttons on dpad and r1 l1. It’s so loud and bad. I always liked the reverses sticks position. Not a fan of sharp edge analog sticks too.

But all in all, dualsense got better buttons, incredible haptics, adaptive triggers and it’s very comfy. Not sure if it’s as comfy as DualShock 4 but it’s close.
But I hate the battery. Should be removable or at least way bigger

You don't need to plug the cable into the PS5, you can use a regular phone charger (as long as it's powerful enough), so you don't necessarily need to have it running across the room. But sure, it's a cable.

I don't get obsession with criticising Xbox for sticking with AA batteries.
Like. It does not make a sense at a first glance. But it's way more practical solution.
Got 4 pairs of rechargeables and if one pair is gone, i will just replace it. Also, number of hours I will get from those batteries is tied to their capacity so usually I can get way more hours from Xbox controller than DualSense.

And of course there is a problem that battery inside DualShock/DualSense have limited recharge cycles and you need to suffer less and less gaming time after every recharge cycle. After few years with DualShock 4 battery inside lasted 45 minutes of playing which is pathetic. And also, DualSense is not that great in terms of playing time because Sony is cheap in terms of battery capacity.

Perfect middle ground would be stuff like Elite 2. You got battery inside but it can give you 30+ hours of playtime. But since no company is willing to put that kind of battery inside standard controller, it's just better to use AAs.

But I agree, that DualSense feels more premium. Haptic feedback is great, but I find Adaptive Triggers gimmicky and I'm disabling them everywhere I can. In terms of ergonomic they are on par with each other. But i find buttons and caps of analogue sticks better on Xbox.

Ya, nothing screams high end electronics like those AA Duracels lolol
Yeah nothing screams 2022 like lack of choice and shit internal battery.
My dualsense lasts like 6 hours and needs recharging. If it had a battery door I could decide if I want play and charge or, normal batteries or rechargeables. 4 rechargeable and a charger are like 15€ at ikea. Never wired. Swap instantly. Controller never dies. Never required to buy Chinese battery and open controller.

Internal is a scam.
But aside from that, Dualsense wins

I like both controller and either one is fine.
To be honest I do t feel much differences between them. Both are comfortable and feel 'right' for my hands.

The only advantage for me is the longer battery life of the Xbox series x controller.
The dualsense lasts 4 hours max. The series x controller up to 10 hours (with the battery pack).

Lol ok. You can have this one. You started off acting like a condescending cunt and now you are reaching. You know whats easier than inventing a whole host of scenarios to justify one's controller purchase on the internet? Changing two rechargeable batteries.
