VG24/7: 2 years in, the Xbox Series X/S still lacks even one killer exclusive

Been hearing this since Xbox one days. And every Xbox fan puts their faith in Spencer’s “good games are coming soon” snake oil. How many years is it gonna take, I mean goddamn.

its already here! publisher of the year 2021! for what games you ask? flight simulator and forza horizon 5. it just doesnt get any better then that! oh i forgot phsychonauts 2. absolutely legendary year right there. up there with the best years ever in gaming history.

Sad that therez 2 things going on in your sarcasm.

The first is that those were the only great games released last year, and you somehow believe that this year is better.

Yup not one game on Game pass. MS fooled me again! You guys even paying attention to your arguments?

Oh no you don't! Game pass has no games!
You have an insatiable thirst for these GP games. Whew. What games you playing?
Xbox community on Twitter are full of hypocrites.

They bash "movie games" but they love As Dusk Falls.

They also went crazy for stuff like Immortality, 12 minutes or Hellblade.

Immortality is literally just watching movie clips and clicking on faces.

Although that's arguably true, the difference might not be enough for people to choose an Xbox vs a PS5
I hope they don't. I want MS on the Backfoot providing me value.

They have always been the beat working from the bottom.

That's why i said slightly better, some games on extra aren't on gamepass either.

Ppl called all the games gamepass fodder, now suddenly on extra they are amazing, even though the games have only gotten cheaper and older while they were on gamepass.
.it's funny to seem

I don't speak for whoever these people are, so don't come at me with that.

It's all about preference, you can't get upset with people who only want AAA games and the service doesn't deliver it. I'm rather good with both PS Extra and Gamepass, but I did recently cancel my GP cause there wasn't anything i was interested in, that doesn't make it bad like people say.

As much as the constant baggin' on Microsoft annoyed me last gen (PS4 chooser here), the reverse constant baggin' on Sony - acting as if Microsoft is gonna win this generation - somewhat irks me, l

Where does this ‘constant claim that MS is winning the gen’ exist? Certainly not here.

Yeah but there's nothing new to play? So what's the point of having GP?

Ah Yes, the games they’ve been dropping in the past few months don’t exist.

Yeah, such a bad game... https://opencritic.com/game/13590/immortality

Woops it seems it scored as well as HFW
But Horizon is nothing alike?

The score is irrelevant with what I said. The "game" is just watching movie clips with real actors. I played it so I know.

The same fanbase that shits on "cinematic games" like GOW or Horizon have no issues playing games like Yakuza or Persona with hours of cutscenes and tons of dialogues. More than any "cinematic Sony games". Psychonauts 2 also had way too much. No complaints tho.

How strange.

What does 1 killer exclusive even mean? Just because Ragnarok is out now and scored higher, Xbox doesn't have a killer exclusive? FH5 scored higher than any previous released exclusive that wasn't a remaster on PS5.

Yeah this is what i find the funniest. They brag about games that literally have no gameplay like As Dusk Falls (which i enjoyed) and Immortality. Then you got the ‘Sony Lite’ games like Hellblade, or GoTG that they all enjoyed.

The day Microsoft puts out a single player game even as good as something like Days Gone you’ll never hear the end of it. it will be like the dawn of a new day.

GOTG was another one, constant chatter always everywhere every second, even in battles. So many cutscenes and dialogues and yet it was praised to high heaven when it was on GP. How come?

I fucking hated all the characters and I was sick of them. It was too much even for me.

I'm not familiar with the movies or comics.

GoTG is what people who don’t play playstation studio games think playstation games are

I love the way people talk like they think all those first party studios won't actually release any games.
The longer period between releases, outside of covid, is a good sign (343i excluded).
Moat of the studios MS bought have doubled in size and their new projects are way bigger in scope than anything else they have done. Unread Labs for instance have gone from an indie studio to a AAA studio.

This article lays out everything we know at the moment at Xbox, but Jez has said that he has seen a heap of new game code names that MS has with outside studios.
Soon it's going to be raining games.

This ignores that I can play or will be able to play every Xbox or PlayStation game on PC going forward. True exclusives only exist on Nintendo consoles.

Also, there hasn’t been a Sony exclusive worth more than a weekend’s play since Uncharted 2. I would Bloodbourne or the DS remake, but I figure they are coming to PC eventually as well.

True and false, depending of the taste. Assuming talking about console exclusives only (not counting pc versions)

I personally bought series x just to play flight simulator, so that was killer exlusive to me.

I also got switch mainly for BoTw and havent used it much at all after first year.

So, sometimes 1 game is enough.

Still, Forza+FS+halo isnt much, if they arent genres you like.

IMO Series X and PS5 arent competitors anymore, the full fill each other. PS5 is strongest for AAA single player experiences and Sony exclusives, sxs is strong for variety of shooters+forza + game pass stuff.

Too bad that stalker and starfield got delayed, but so far PS5 have offered more killer exclusives, but game pass stuff is kind of nice, just try out games I would never pay for.

Owning both = getting best of both worlds

Leave GoW out of this, people shit on Horizon because the main character is fucking BOOOOOOOOORING!!! So being trapped in a cut scene with her being boring and condescending to everyone is an awful experience. I am willing to put up with that in Yakuza because Kiyru is fun to watch in comparison to ginger hamster cheeks.

GoW has this issue from time to time but that's largy down to Atreus doing something cringe.

I’m not even sure why people still argue against this at this point, even with Phil Spencer and Matt Booty (hehe) pretty much confirming it.
What do Matt and Phil know. People obviously don't care about exclusives. They just want powerful hardware to play last gen games. lololol

I dont like Sony's template. That's why i bought an Xbox again, mostly for western RPGs.

I don't see a problem with isolated experiences such as Immortality (even if in this case it's not even a Microsoft game) or Psychonauts 2. Psy 2 is basically an adventure game, among many other studios which don't make adventure games. So that's fine, that's a game affiliated with a specific genre of games.

Sony integrates its studios into a pattern of production, way too much. And this is the "story driven" thing, with all the annoying things that come with it. Saying Microsoft is the same because they produced As Dusk Fall does not sound like fair criticism (and i've been criticizing Xbox a lot in this thread).

PS Plus extra also has great games on its service plus its exclusives for purchase.

How does that make the Series X the best console? id say it just does a service slightly better.
PS Plus Extra/Premium came out of the gate strongly with DeS, Returnal, Stray and Valhalla. However since launching in June it’s been pretty clear that the launch month was the exception, not the norm.

Game Pass has had a bad year, but has still had brand new highly rated games on the service like Tunic, Tinykin, Requiem, Vampire Survivors and Football Manager 2023.

In short, Game Pass isn’t slightly better, it remains head and shoulders above.

Yes, the 2023 games lineup will be canceled.

When I see posts like this, I have to be thankful I can afford multiple consoles. Because this is the level I was at decades ago as a kid when all I could play was the SNES and I was invested in trash-talking the competition.

Have you considered looking for a deal on the Series S?

And Sony is the "Burger King" of publishers who only develops variations of the same thing? Examples?
Also if Sony is BK what does that make everyone else including MS??

I don't know if this list was created out of willful ignorance or pure fanboyism, but one thing is for sure, it is THE worst attempt to prove a point as I have seen on this board in a minute.
My first thought was to fully correct the ridiculousness of this list but there is probably no point. I'll just let you live in that.................or give someone else the honor.

Master Chief Collection, BC, Gamepass.

Bethesda is a huge get as well. Then there’s Forza Horizon 5 and the Hot Wheels Expansion, Halo Infinite’s campaign had a great open world, though some of the missions were lacking, Ori 2 was great. Sea of thieves is fun. Found so many other good games on game pass as well.
Master Chief Collection is a collection of games from 15+ years ago. Hardly worth the purchase.

I’m PC only. If anything I always preferred Sony’s games.

But I’m also not blind to reality and will call it like I see it. That’s something fanboys can’t do.
The fact is that Sony does one style of game these days. If you weren’t around to see the Sony of the PS2 and PS3 eras then you wouldn’t understand. Back then Sony made games in all kinds of genres.

Too many people fail to understand that not everyone loves the cookie cutter "cinematic" 3rd person action games. Xbox offers a lot more variety in its catalog.
