*smh* I agree that near the last third of the game, it is beginning to overstay its welcome, but it was one of the most tense survival horror games I've ever played. The androids were creepy as fuck and the alien made me go into full alert mode anytime I would hear it.

I think this is a very wrong take, but hey, opinions.
Play soma or penumbra. This is creepy. Not the monster we all know.
Yeah androids were good addition

Finally, the Alien from Alien in a video game. I thought it would never happen. All we need now is a game about soldiers fighting in a war, and all my unrealistic dreams will be brought to life.

I don't like the 'you can either run or hide in the closet' trend of horror games which SOMA's predecessors - the Amnesia games - started. I want survival horror games, which give you 'fight or flight' mechanics.

Yeah but Isolation is that too. The shooting is just for show most of time.
My fav is to enable safe enemies in Soma and dont botehr with enemies at all since I also hate the non fighting crap

No. It really isn't. Sure, you can't kill the Alien, but you can fight it off. Humans and androids can be killed just like in any SH game.
OK I finished the game and ALL I remember from it was hiding under tables and enabling power generators :p
So my bad

I mean, only against the Alien (and even that's not true since you can fight it off with the flamethrower). Meanwhile, you can fight humans with anything, and Joes with EMPs/the wrench/guns (and that's before you even get into diversion tactics and crafting). Also, if you're having trouble with humans hunting you, you can just wrench hit wall to call the Xeno so it can wipe (as long as you survive). You've also got stuff like messing with ventilation to lower visibility/make stealth easier or causing alarms to go off in different rooms to lure enemies into traps/make paths. You could also lock off doors and paths to try to trap the Xeno or divert it. Also, unless you play on the easiest difficulty, running is out of the question since that calls the Xeno every time. The Xeno can even hear your motion tracker so you have to use that sparingly. There is so much depth to Isolations gameplay systems, it's insane. It also has the best open map design I've seen in a horror game other than Prey. Sevastopol was a maze you HAD to use your map to get around.

I also don't agree with the Alien not being scary just because you've seen the movies. No one had ever been so intimate with the Xeno before Isolation. The size of it and its pure lethality made it one of the most imposing enemies I've ever seen in a game. One hit kills, it's faster than you, it searches the whole station, and it can follow you into any vent or under the floor grates, or look under desks and in lockers as it hunted you. It's AI and the way it stalked is unparalleled in a video game. The only way to survive was to actually outsmart it and use Ripley's engineering skills. It made Mr. X look like a joke. Also, we've seen Mr. X before in RE games and movies. He was still scary too (until you learned how to exploit his AI; there is no exploiting the Xeno, that thing will fuck you up if you try).

Trying to liken it to Penumbra or Soma (neither of which are scarier than Isolation) seems like you didn't completely get the depth of the gameplay systems like that IGN reviewer. I like Frictionals games, but they are quintessential walking/hiding simulators like Outlast. Isolation is closer to classic survival horror in which you have to manage resources and actually think about your approach. It actually did it better than classic survival horror games. It likely had the depth it did because Creative Assembly is more known for strategy games, and it showed. TBH, if you spent the entire game just crouching from locker to table, you missed out.

All this, basically.

I Finished this game and I concur. I think it would be great for 4-5 hours game.. not 20. I loudly sighted every time I had to restore power in last hours of the game.
My thought line up quite a bit with this if you want to watch. I don't often agreed with these guys but this is how me and my father felt with Isolation.

Cool. I thought it made a great 20 hour game.

Alien is not scary. We know what it is, how it looks, what it does... It was scary when the movie was new.
It's scary when the player is forced to sneak around it instead of fighting it.
It is possible to make a good game around it but not a scary game.
Alien: Isolation did both. It does have flaws but it's a worthwhile experience.
And alien Isolation was neither scary or good. It was 4 hours game that was stretched to 20 hours and consisted of hiding under beds and enabling power generators... over and over and over. I think people who praise it have not really finished it. I did and it's pain
The length was too long and the pacing was a bit slow. Those are fair criticisms but the game overall is fun. Encouraging stealth over combat when it comes to the Xenomorph is a fresh take that makes for tense moments. Hell, we need a game like Isolation but for the Predator.
