Monster Hunter Rise Coming to Current-Gen Consoles and Game Pass in 2023

You are assuming that they would just port it over and be done with it, like they did with RE 6
uhh, what?
Capcom almost never just "port things over", that was the entire point of them developing MTF, it literally means Multi-Target-Framework, so they could have great parity on all systems.
So if a game like the Witcher 3, which I recon is more demanding
Not a good example cause it looks like shit and the framerate regularly shits the bed to the mid twenties, MHW is even more demanding than W3.

Look, I don't care, I just don't want MHW2 to make sacrifices design wise just so they can also run it (like trash) on the switch.

If you think MH will ever truly be designed without some thought put into a portable Switch version for Japan then you are out of your mind.

Which they were able to scale down for a Switch release in Rise. Most of the core systems are the same. But not the environments.

Yes scaled the fuck down lol, MHR doesn't even look remotely as good as MHW, have nearly the amount of content and the Multiplayer functionality is a complete joke, clearly going by switch restrictions.

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
MH bros, kinda offtopic but I have a question for you.

I have played both vanilla World and vanilma Rise, but not the expansion of neither of them. Which one should I dive into?

I kinda liked World more because it doesn't have those tower defense missions and the multiplayer isn't a clusterfuck with 8 characters kicking the monster's ass. But I also liked Rise's roster of monsters and music far better, so I can't decide.
If speed is your issue then I imagine it will be far more of an issue with World, not having the wirebugs and climbing that negate the map pathing as you spiderman around.

Rampages were deprecated with Sunbreak, it has a wholly different endgame with most higher tier crafted weapons not even having rampage slots any more for the gems.

Such drama.

Witcher 3 runs just fine. Yeah, its not the best version by a longshot and all, but more than a million players bought it on Switch and enjoyed it just fine. Pretty sure MH World could run better if they poured the resources needed to optimize it to the Switch. And given Rise's sales on the systems, it made far too much sense.

Hope that Capcom doesn't act like an idiot and decides to ignore Nintendo again, especially after Rise's mounstrous success. Rise is the best entry in the series for a lot of players, and a lot of the innovations came with a "shit" system like the Switch. So I honestly don't get how the design would be held back by it.

Regardless, I'm looking forward on what Capcom does!

It doesn't matter if it's on PC or not, it's a game designed for Switch hardware a very old and outdated hardware tools, the game looks way inferior than MHW that released way earlier.
Ah so now RE Engine is a Switch engine. We’ll remember that when you’re jizzing all over RE4 Remake.

I wonder if there will be cross play.

I remember before its release on PC a survey went out with this as a question alongside cross save, apparently the results so one sided in favour that Capcom came out and made an announcement saying both where off the table for PC launch despite the questions being asked.

could well be the chance to implement it.

They already did it with World tho. And they will do it with the next main game by pure logic.

It actually remind me of Re revelation 3DS that came after RE5 PS360. It was such a huge downgrade in technical and graphic wise compare to RE5. Even if it got a HD port it was still kinda meh in every aspects you wished the game was designed for ps360 first.

I'm sure World could be downported. Rise does appear to have made concessions but it also has the far different mobility that makes the maps feel much more sandboxy as you can traverse them from great heights with views from one end to the other at any time rather than via preset paths and vistas and they're designed to account for and emphasise that. If World had this it'd have been a bit scaled down on PS4/Xbone (or have performance suffer during traversal). Still, if they ported it to Switch I would hope they figure out a better foliage system than the one in Rise, take a hint from the Xenoblade games, plentiful 2D foliage that doesn't stack up to the 3D stuff in World but can be even more dense. Anyway, by the time a World 2 makes sense to release as a next gen only game that hopes to repeat its success by the same wow, so next gen factor, there will probably be a Switch 2. Still, Capcom could decide they want to keep two series going, one for home consoles and one for portables, if they don't want to commit to some of the changes Rise brought to the table for fans that played without them so far (like the wirebugs, but hopefully they're here to stay). It might also make sense in other ways because for all we know, not just GAFers but many core fans got Rise and also World having all platforms available, while if they had ported World instead it'd sell somewhat less and the same would be true for sequels as folks no longer double dip twice.

I just don't see how BG&E 2 can actually happen at this point. Re-announced almost 6 years and still barely into development? C'mon, if that project was a horse, you'd shoot it.

Rise PC port coming to consoles is niiiiice. Will gladly play it thru Game Pass on my Series X. Excellent MH game, but it chugs on the Switch, and I personally can't stand the 15 fps distant animations.

You don't understand how memory limits and slow cpu speeds could hold back design choices?
Peace Out Reaction GIF
Oh yeah, because there are SOOOOO many games using the PS5 capabilities to do things that weren't possible before.

lol

Rise launched on Switch and people consider it the best entry, so I don't even get the complain outside of "MOAR GRAPHICS".

And most gamers prefer gameplay and story over graphics, so...

Good this game is great but I hated playing it on switch due to frame rate and resolution. Hopefully they do 60fps 1440 and a 120 option.

I can never get hooked into these games, despite really liking Capcom games. Are they meant to be played multiplayer? I almost finished world, will likely try this if it comes to PS5.

Monster Hunter World was great, while Rise looks like a downgrade in the graphics department, I am sure the gameplay holds up.

It’s tough to say.

World DLC is meatier and has a way better endgame (arguably). The downside is population and the fact the claw is a mandatory use accessory.

Rise has a very, very nice DLC, but less meat.

Your choice.

Nobody is playing base World in 2022, champ. We're comparing the latest version of Rise (SB) with the latest version of World (IB). In that sense, World absolutely stomps the everliving shit out of Rise. What a miserable disappointment the latter was.
Doesn't change the fact the world AI is dumb as fuck. You have start of with Base World in order to get access to Iceborne content. Can't jump into master rank off the bat champ. Also most of World's maps are convoluted and filled with unnecessary collectopedia fluff. Clutch claw mechanic is idiotic as well.

All of this plus it feels incredibly slow and static once you’ve played Rise for even a minute. Rise has mobility, build variety, play style customization, better enemy designs and I could go on.

Can’t think of a single melee weapon that’s more fun to play in World than Rise. A huge misstep in an otherwise flawless series of games.

Not sure why this thread got so heated...

I think Capcom is just concentrating on Rise right now because it's mainly on Switch and has done really, really well, and so they can work just with Rise in parity on all platforms for a while until World 2/Paradise/whatever sequel is ready. (Rise is also newer and still trending and now would have a "fresh" new port release, whereas reinvigorating last-gen World interest would take more than a DLC.)

It looks good and plays well despite the minor concessions to get it initially onto Switch, it can be dressed up with advanced-gen assets, it's fun to play with its additional mechanics/focus that's different from World, it can get another round of DLC on all platforms and keep going long past Sunbreak, players can still go get World if they want that too, and then a sequel/replacement to World (if not also a sequel to Rise) will come in time.

Win/win if the rumor is true, as MH fans wait for the next World game.

Rise works the same way with a useless LR grind. Pretty much all the flaws you pin on World has Rise aswell. What World has but Rise doesn't are marvelous monster fights such as Rajang, Alatreon, Safi and Fatalis. Rise has nothing close to this. Turning the hunter into a coked up Spider-Man just removes any sense of underdog position. Feels like hitting helpless MMO mobs most of the time.

Good things come to those who wait! Will happily play this on Game Pass and probably buy it when it leaves. Was so close to grabbing it on Switch, so glad I waited.

Fingers crossed for crossplay
