Not that strange. PS5's are still in limited supply and fairly hard to find in the UK, without resorting to paying over the odds for bundled packages.

While demand is still outstripping supply, it’s not that hard to get one these days.

I'll give you a hint the markets in which Xbox is strong in USA and????

Mexico? 😜

You're blown away by the fact the system with more demand but more limited supply, is narrowly ahead year-to-date against a platform holder who has two systems with relatively less demand, but the cheaper of those two being much more widely available year-round, and had big (huge, even) discounts last month...in a market that is generally considered one of the two strongest for a certain platform holder who otherwise tends to underperform notably in most global markets in relation to rivals?

Uh, okay I guess?

Maybe he’s blown away because he’s read one of your posts where you claimed that barely anyone wants the Series S?

Think Switch is going to win again but maybe Sony does send enough units to the UK. It doesn't look that way at the moment though.

It's one console. Series S and X have different specs and huge price difference therefor two different consoles. Your opinion is the only thing that is asinine.

This makes not an iota of sense. The major reason the Series S is being discussed heavily here is because of its price point. The PS5 DE is a lower priced SKU. Ergo, it cannot be discussed as one SKU in a thread where the context is sales and not performance.

This is such a basic thing to grasp.

Back on topic, great to see all three performing well. A more competitive market provides significant benefits for consumers.

Are people really talking about stock issues still? All consoles are in stock all over the place, dont think stock has been an issue for a while now.

2022 was a very bad year for PS5 stock until recently so I'm surprised they are still no1.

Series is continuing to be the best Xbox in that brand's history and I'm all for it.
Starfield is already being primed as a system seller, other games like Motorsport, even Redfall to a lesser extent, will ship systems.

If/when the acti deal closes, just imagine all the Diablo, CoD bundles etc.

The success is theirs for the taking.

Damn you're really overcompensating ever since you got a PS5. It's like you don't want the muppets to find out their queen is a fake.

If they aren't identical and have the same price it's 2 consoles. Trying to say Sony has 1 console, Xbox has 2 and Switch has 3 is asinine.

Not that it really makes any difference.

They all play the same games in thier ecosystem.
Wrong.

Both have 2 different systems, BUT Sony sells same hardware minus disc drive on kind of similar price range, while MS sells 1 weak 1 strong system with big price difference.

So yes, it is lazy to claim that "both have 2, so it doesnt matter" when the point is that MS benefits from having 1 cheap system with the expensive one.

On some European countries series S have been available since the launch and series X have been available for the last year (haven't even sold out around BF+december time now), and also were available mostly for last half of 2021 + often before that. While PS5 havent been available but few times and usually always sells out really fast. What I have read about UK, it have been kind of similar situation, but bit worse for xbox than in my country.

My point is, that comparing these systems isnt that straight forward, when one is super supply limited and one isnt. Objectively the winner is the one whom is really supply limited, but still manages to stay on top. Like if the competitor have much more stock, yet it barely wins or sells about the same, it means that demand is lower.

In my opinion ps5+sxs are both great and I have been using sxs more than ps5 lately, but series s is crap, people wont want to pay more than 100-150€ for used ones so it tells enough to me.

Remember when PS5 was Last and people were acting like PS5 wouldn't sell lmao

In the end it was due to stock, December should be very huge.

What led you to this conclusion? You should also remember that an anticipated release coming in the 11th month of the year can't suddenly help make up lower-than-expected supply for a supply-constrained system from at least the first 7 - 8 months of that same year.

Especially considering the game in question mostly sold the vast majority of copies on the system that was heavily supply-constrained earlier in the year.
Ps5 has been in stock so much better this year. You have been able to buy them every time I've looked this year. Sure not every retailer has had them in 100 percent of the time but if you Google search you can find them in some place.

But basically, what you are saying is the series S is a genius little beast from MS because its allowed them to consistantly have stock and provide an option to buyers looking to purchase. ( even though no one buys them and they are just sat on shelves collecting dust, isn't that right Gaf?)

The only thing i dont get about your comment is, what happens if people want sony exclusives....why would they pick up a series S? Somethings got to be inticing them?
I couldn't get a PS5 for my daughter, so I bought a Series S for her. Guess I'm not the only one?

Man unlucky, did you check all the usual spots? I picked up a ps5 yesterday from game with no game. Disk version in the middle of December with absolutely no issues for my father in law.

Edit: just checked and its still in stock

I don't know how this narrative that you can't buy a ps5 still exists. They've even said they've got to a point where stocks so readily available they can ship more for Japan.

If you told me before this gen, that Xbox will not release a AAA game in a whole year and will still manage to be competitive in key markets, I would not believe you. And yet, here we are.

Can we stop the lies about stock please?

https://direct.playstation.com/en-gb

Exactly. Either people aren't looking or they just have to try and create some false narrative to deal with the fact that either demands dropping on ps5 or MS is actually doing great too. They can't deal with either of those realities so here we are.

But yeah, series S doesn't sell. It's a flop.

Scalping profits via stockx on the digital ones are like 10-20 gbp, maybe not worth it for the scalpers any more
Well when you can just buy them at rrp from various places I can't see how it can be profitable for scalpers at all. You gotta he dumb to pay those prices when you can just pop into game, currys or argos.

I just want to know what dumb dumbs are buying from scalpers when you can buy @ RRP from the shops now, and have been able to do so for 2 months!

Digital especially the standalone sku has held up well but yeah, it is becoming harder to be profitable at least in the UK.

Need to sell it to China it seems.

Why no one mention xbox is half price of ps5?

That only goes for Series S, and the price disparity is mentioned heavily in this thread.

Remember when PS5 was Last and people were acting like PS5 wouldn't sell lmao

In the end it was due to stock, December should be very huge.

I do not believe anyone ever on this forum has ever acted like the PS5 wouldn’t sell.

Is there a month by month breakdown because I can only remember xbox being ahead of PS5 like 6 times.

Either they were always razor close or there was a month which saw a pretty substantial shift.

Either way that's quite a pleasant surprise. Console market be healthy

PS5 DE vs PS5; there are 2 sku’s, there are 2 different price points = 2 consoles. It cannot be simpler than that. Stop making your own delusional world please and apply some logic.
They are exactly the same console minus the Blu-Ray drive. Series X and S are different in specs not just minus a disc drive. The only one being delusional is you with your pathetic attempt to label PS5 DE as 2nd console for Sony. Keep trying though.........

Again has the PS5 been readily available throughout 2022? The only one creating a false narrative is you. Did you mention Series S has been readily available throughout the whole year? Heavily discounted too. During BlackFriday both Series consoles were discounted?
Love the way you try play neutral but always get called out for your bias takes.

Comes in limited quanitiy but stock sells out quick. Its out of stock right now from most major retailers (Amazon, Argos, Currys etc.), except those with bundles.

Have been able to order Series X from Amazon, Currys etc for months. Series S is always available. I guess you don't live in the UK if you talk about Best Buy/Walmart.. we don't have those.
its in stock at my local Argos and currys

Lol is that the best you came up with? Desperate? All companies use different sku's. Are you saying when Nintendo sell the different Switch models they keep the same SKU?

No lies detected.
So has the PS5 been readily available throughout the whole of 2022? Or are you basing this on the last couple of months?
In my opinion yes. Since last Christmas stock has been available on all major retailers’ websites for huge periods of time. Sometimes Curry’s might sell out for 3 or 4 days, but when that happens Argos, Very or another retailer would have some available. It’s literally just been a case of checking who’s got some, but it’s been very rare that no one has any at the same time.

Ah now we've switched to different terminology? Sku's now? You seem desperate to try to make out that the PS5 models are two distinct separate consoles. Yet it's clear Series consoles are two separate consoles.
Talk about basics and grasping is your weak and pathetic attempt to separate the PS5 consoles which are just that PS5 console.

Are we moving the goal posts because you can't provide the receipts now? Not so clever with your retort now?
There were plenty of times when there was no stock in any stores or retailers. I used to go on the stock alert site for PS5.

Can you also post stock allocation from Sony throughout the rest of 2022?
Do you expect me to pull up some graphs and charts or something?

I’ve bought 2 of the Horizon bundles this year, from Shopto and Very. It’s been as easy as I’m telling you this year (y)

Well you were quick to post that there is stock available today so you should be able to provide the same proof for the rest of the year?

Lol Shopto? The place where they bundle two games and a controller and charge a fortune?
Even the slowest person if stupid enough could buy a PS5 bundle from there.

Series S being lower specs and cheaper than Series X isn’t delusional.

Its not the same as a disc and digital version of PS5. PS5’s have the same specs. Series S is not the same specs are Series X and is £200 cheaper.

Not the same at all, hence the lower specs and almost 50% cheaper

Absolutely blowing my mind that the year Sony has horizon, gran turismo 7 and god of war ragnarok....and launches their new playstation plus service. Microsoft are basically neck and neck with them and have literally nothing but gamepass steady releases of decent content.

Amazing achievement for all tbh, sales are really good across all three consoles. How good is that?
In the UK for 2022*

No it was just the Horizon bundle at retail price, twice. Maybe your stupid if you could only find the expensive bundles?

It's clear to everyone the PS5 has been in short supply throughout the year. Just because Sony has more stock available now this last couple of months or so doesn't change the fact it was hard to find for the average consumer. Don't try to spin it differently now. This whole thread is about sales for the year.

You jumped in yourself when I was replying to a known biased poster who made a list of games and services Sony released in 2022 that should have helped their sales performance yet he failed to mention that Sony were struggling to produce enough PS5 stock until a few months ago. You posted stock available as of today. I didn't claim there is no stock available today.
Stupid? Shopto are known for selling shit bundles at silly prices. I could find console only deals quite easily.
Also your the one who was claiming that it was a false narrative that PS5’s were in short supply in 2022. You then proceeded to post links to supply as of today as a rebuttle.
