Ok guys and gals, please let's try to be civil and not go down that route again, this is not a Vs thread so, all the angry internet people might skip this thread altogether as to avoid the (unfortunately) toxic behavior that plagues these kind of threads, having said that :

I still remember the day i first connected my OG Xbox to my Sony Trinitron flat CRT : the awesome boot-up sound, the weird menus and the obvious hardware advantage it had compared to the other "big 2" of that era.
Dead or Alive 3, to this day still remains one the best next-gen experiences® i've ever had , shit was just jaw-dropping, same thing with Panzer Dragoon Orta, absolutely beautiful graphics running at a rock-solid 60fps...Next were Jet set radio Future and Splinter Cell 1, jaws dropped again, JSRF was simply a joy to behold and Splinter cell...man, i still remember watching someone playing it in a video shop in pure amazement thinking "how is this friggin 300€ vidjya box be able to run this game with all the shadow gfx on ?" - game needed a beefy PC back in the day to play it as intended and yet, here was this weirdly shaped black box that was able to run it "properly" (shitty 640x480 res and all that). Also : Shenmue 2, i mean, what a jolly good experience that game was, i still love it to this day, sure, it was also available on the Dreamcast but we all remember what happened there.
In some ways, the OG XBOX really felt like a continuation of the Dreamcast, you had these really quality "console-type®" games - especially when it came to Sega titles (thank you Smilebit).
Anyway, couple of years passed and the console received some other nice exclusives like FROM's Otogi 1 & 2, KOTOR, Splinter Cell 2 & 3, Fable, Halo 2, DOA Ultimate and the G.O.T Ninja Gaiden?/Black.
Did it have the library of the PS2 (which i also had) ? Absolutely not, it didn't matter though, i was happy with what the Xbox had to offer console exclusive-wise.

Enter November 2005 : The Xbox 360 gets released, sure the launch line-up wasn't that great (Condemned & Kameo were cool though) but...what a generation gents, i mean, besides the obvious "AAA" games/MS exclusives like Halo/Gears, just the fact that you had numbered, once PS exclusive entries (absent from a PS platform) like Ridge racer 6 & Ace Combat 6 was - how to put it - weird but also awesome at the same time. Also : we all remember the FF 13 announcement , right ? :D A Final fantasy entry on a non Sony/Nintendo platform, 'nuff said.
Fantastic console , shame about the RROD absolute fiasco though since i had 4 different console/revisions failing on me but hey, can't complain, i had my fun.

Xbox one : Skipped most of the gen since i went PS4 only that time and came back 6-7 months before the release of the XSX/XSS with a XBOX One X - i just had to replay Ninja Gaiden 2, Panzer dragoon Orta and a couple of other BC games.
Got Gamepass, played through most of the MS exclusives i had missed like Quantum Break, Ryse Son of Rome, Halo MCC, Halo 5, Gears 4 & 5 etc etc. - enjoyed them all.

Series X/S : Sold my One X, was able to get a XSX at launch and the rest is history.
Have been enjoying various games on gamepass but - and here's the thing guys and gals - i miss some damned good console exclusives dammit, sure, we had Halo infinite , Forza Horizon 5 and MS Flight sim but, never was a racing fan nor a flight sim type fan, halo Infinite on the other hand...the less i say the better.
it really says something when you've enjoyed indie games like Katana zero, Ghost song and a few others more than a Multi-billion company's exclusives, after all, a good game is a good game but it's not like you go and spend 500 eurodollars on a "next-gen" console to be able to play mostly indie games.

It's been 2 years since release for Christ's sake and there's been nothing for me to justify the purchase i've made, i kind of feel duped by all the promises and i share the same opinion as many other users : stop all the damned PR, stop announcing games ages before and just show us the games some months before they get actually released.
Now, before someone mentions the COVID pandemic and all the complications it created in the industry , i can't help but taking a look at the Playstation catalogue : Demon's Souls, Ratchet and Clank , Returnal, FF7 Intergrade (didn't play the remake on my PS4), Horizon Forbidden West, GOW Ragnarok and upcoming ones like Final Fantasy 16 (looks brilliant), Silent Hill 2 remake etc etc - all games right up my alley since i love me some 3rd person games & RPG.
It's a rhetorical question but, if Sony was able to do it (release more than a few good/quality exclusives in the span of 2 years), why wasn't Microsoft able to the same ?

I don't know guys, i really miss the quality of the PS exclusives and while the 3rd person action-adventure photo meme may still apply, there's just this undeniable quality about them and are also a known quantity, meanwhile, us who are only xbox users are still waiting for Fable (God knows how it'll turn out to be after all those rumours) after more than 5 years, a Perfect Dark game (most of the devs left/unknown quantity), the Indiana jones game from Machine games (have they ever made a 3rd person game ?)plus, the future of Halo is questionable and so on so forth, it's just been a disappointing ride for me so far.Sure, 120Hz supported games and backwards compatibility are really nice to have but...they can only take you so far, again, i'm really starving for some good AAAAAAAA games since i've had my share of indies these past few months.
My craving for that kind of Sony exclusives has grown so much that i got actually interested in acquiring a PS5 lately - if it wasn't for the fact that A) i don't have the time nowadays to play that much plus, trying to justify owning 2 consoles, B) the still ridiculous prices/scalping over here in Euroland (700€ even from Amazon.it) and the fact that you can't walk into a store and get one and C) the fact that a new slim/Pro console might release sooner than we think.

I fully acknowledge that MS exclusives are coming but...the fact is when , and truth be told, i'm getting envious of the PS5 library and exclusives.

I find it kind of funny to be honest, i never really thought that i'd be missing those kind of games to the point of kind of regretting my purchase and jumping ship again, but, in the end guys/gals, it's all about the games (i.e: preferences) and not some dumb multi-billion brand loyalty and the shiny plastic box(es) it produces.

Thanks in advance for chiming in boys and girls, cheers !

Get a PS5 then. I've found that there's more than enough reason to own all 3 consoles this gen. I don't spend any time waiting really, just struggling to catch up on a mountain of games. I couldn't imagine skipping FFXVI for instance.

I voted that you should get a PS5 and dump your Series X asap. That should solve your problems and after Xbox has released ten exclusives that you want to play you can consider getting a new Xbox some time down the line. There's no reason to stick with something that isn't doing for you, this is how loveless marriages come to be.

You made the smart decision in the first place, stick with that. :messenger_squinting_tongue:

Seriously, MS has a ton of games on tap and in combination with GP Xbox is the superior value by a mile. Plus, you get quick resume and better backwards compatibility (not just now but likely in the future as well).

You already have a PS4 for the cross-gen exclusives and an XSX to play the multiplats, so getting a PS5 will give you access to what, 3 new games?

If I were you I'd just wait. I'm sure there are more than enough games on Xbox to keep you entertained and, once the PS5 has more actual current-gen exclusives, go and grab one.
By that point they might have already released a Slim or Pro model so that'd be a plus too.

I'd get a PS5 and keep the XSX. I personally have had so much to play on my PS5 this last year that I hardly used my XSX and let Gamepass expire. But I'm hoping this year there will be a few XSX games worth playing 🤞if you can afford it, owning all is a great place to be.

How the hell is it possible to care so much about this topic? Play games, enjoy them. JFC.
Games i do enjoy friend, i just miss the games i described in my mini-thesis though, that was the whole point JFC ;)

We all know what is slated for this year from Microsoft. Seems like the worst possible time to drop Xbox. Having said that, if there are games on PS you want to play then buy a PS5 as well.
You're not wrong Toph, it's just that i don't care about games like that incoming co-op vampire game, Starfield is the one that interests me the most and even then, it might not come in 2023.Also, i'm not expecting anything but the usual Bethesda junk-fest tbh.

You know what's funny Miku ? I never really was a Final Fantasy fan (did manage to finish the uber-mediocre FF15 though) but when i saw the new trailer the other day i thought " i really need to play this s@it", game looks absolutely mint !

Goddamn Jenn, this turned dark very quickly :D
I do get what you're saying though, cheers !

If you don't want to miss on future (and present) Xbox exclusives but also don't want to miss on PS exclusives:
The only logical answer is getting a PC. But I know you will have some poorly elaborated excuse not to, because you want to keep this thread rolling, so good luck with the warring.

Yeah, xbox has done a great job with gamepass but they've floundered with their exclusives and have so few really. Forza Horizon 5 is great but after that...crickets?

Depends what you want to play. I bet most future ms games will be smaller in scope or will be GaaS that grow over time. It makes no sense to make a $200 million budget SP game just to have people get a month of GamePass to play it.
Xbox will probably still be more prominent in the MP space for awhile.

But if you want those big budget AAA SP games, and don't like how some 3rd party devs seem to be skipping xbox, well those will be on PS.

I mean, now would kind of be the worst time to ditch the Series X. Exclusives are literally right around the corner at this point. Starfield, Forza Motorsport, and Redfall the first half of this year, Hellblade II likely later this year. And it will only continue to get better from here.

Buy/keep both! Best of both worlds.

If you're honestly not interested in game pass or the upcoming announced first party titles coming out, then move on.

But if you do care & have the spare time to play two systems, nothing wrong with owning and playing both xsx & ps5 :)

Thing is Tinto, i don't anymore, sold it before getting the Xbox One X brother.
Still haven't played TLOU2, Ghost of Tsushima FF7 RE etc.

Cock, you might think that your usual snarky drive-by shitposts are cute and all but they're not, i do understand that this is the internet and some peeps need to take their frustration out but shit's getting grating.Behave like a damned adult, this is a discussion forum after all.

If you're going to get triggered you might as well not reply.

You should keep the XSX since there are games on it you are looking forward to and get the PS5 as well. Keep 'em in different rooms so they don't fight ;) but seriously that way you could give time to both ahah.

But, if you don't want to wait or get both, you could trade the XSX for the PS5, play those games and come back to the XSX by doing the same when it has what you want to play.

Most games on Xbox and PS consoles are the same. Buying a new system to get access to a few exclusives you want to play seems excessive to me - but if you think those few games are worth the price of admission and you can afford it, why not? Terrible timing though.

I am a longtime Xbox fan but it is very hard to justify keeping one given the current state of things. I mean, if you have already invested in one then keep it, why not. But if you are unsure whether you pick one or another, I’d say go for the PS5. My SX has been getting dust for over 7 months now.

My man, if that's the case then you have my blessings to get that PS5, specially if are really into Sony exclusives.

Sony consoles are nice, my PS4 Pro and Vita still work as nice as ever, and I heard the PS5 got a stealth revision so it should fare better than when it came out.

1st line : thoughtful reply.
2nd line : why do you have to jump to conclusions ? I don't have any excuses nor do i need to keep the thread "rolling", what for ? internet cookie points ? i'm too old for that stuff, maybe that's how people roll on internet forums but that has got nothing to do with me.

I have an OK laptop man which i got a few months ago but the truth is, i just can't be arsed to tinker with sliders in the video options, OCD too stronK brother, tried WH : Darktide back in November and the constant tinkering as to achieve better FPS results drove me mad, it's just not for me.

Thanks anyways for chiming in

Series X is strictly my backward compatible / retro machine at this point and I’m fine with that I guess. Use my ps5 for pretty much everything else.

I really don’t understand this thread.

OP says he sold his PS4 years ago and only has a Series X. Then why so bothered about ‘exclusives’ when there’s been a lot of multiplatform game releases in the past few years?

I could understand struggling to justify owning a Series X if you already had a PS5 to play the likes of Elden Ring, Callisto protocol, COD games etc, but you only own one console which gives you access to these games. Only thing you’re missing is the PlayStation exclusives which you can remedy by picking up a PS5. As it is, it’s literally impossible for you to be short of quality games to play on your Xbox.

Ah, well. My advice would certainly be to pick up a PS5. Throw in PSVR2, for some variety. Can’t imagine going through a gen without owning all the consoles.

Well, 2023 is supposed to be a big year. If you’ve stuck with the lame duck console this long there’s no backing out now.

Exclusives are the best. Blows my mind people think otherwise.
A game being exclusive doesn't suddenly make the game better.

Most people only play third party titles and probably never touch a 1st party title. (hence why some people only play gtav, cod, FIFA, Minecraft, other sports titles etc)

So it kinda makes sense to me why people would think otherwise to your opinion, especially as everyone enjoys different titles/games.

My older brother only plays Warframe & ESO on his PS5.

Which ones? Curious
Anything really. Is not about being good or bad game. The fact is, exclusives gives a reason to them to sell you on their platform.
If wasn't for exclusives the next thing companies would do is traying to get just your wallet due to reach multiplat games have instead of having to sell you on their platform. But meh that just my opinion

At the end of the day you should simply get what you want. In order to do so you shouldn't need to ask others opinions. It's your money, do with it what will make you happy.
