Jim Ryan: "Everyone who wants a PS5 should have a much easier time finding one at retailers globally, starting from this point forward."

Appearing at CES 2023 this week, PlayStation boss Jim Ryan said the PlayStation 5 shortage is effectively over. People should have a "much easier time" finding a console at their local shops around the world, Ryan said on stage.

He said, "Everyone who wants a PS5 should have a much easier time finding one at retailers globally, starting from this point forward."

The PS5 launched in November 2020 and it quickly became very difficult to find, due in part to the global semiconductor shortage and other supply chain and logistics issues. For what it's worth, Microsoft had Xbox shortage issues, too, as did Nintendo with the Switch to an extent.

Looks like the PS5 shortages are finally over just in time for the start of the new year 2023.

It still may not be at a point you can walk in EVERY store and fine ample stock of course, but now you can easily find somewhere that has them in stock if one location doesn't.

I just checked local store shelves online and although the base unit isn't available, the Raggy bundle is available for a little more money. So he's right.

Here in Portugal there will be a huge supply drop this month and it's been promoted since last month as well by major outlets. I'm sure others are doing the same in other countries.

Crazy to think this year we're getting the PS5 slim edition when the original model is only now going to be everywhere.

still don't get all the cries about stock. most scalped prices on ebay are only 100 over MSRP and the Playstation site has them in stock reguarly. plus you can buy one at your local best buy/walmart/whatever department store near you
if you don't have one and you're looking to buy, the only reason is if you don't have any money which is understandable

Stock has been solid since November. Just in time for China's factories to come to a screeching halt due to covid again.

Yeah, no! Only stupidly overpriced bundles are available here, every now and then.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
I'll believe it when I see it. It's been out for over two years, and I've still yet to see one "in the wild".

Been very available in the UK for a while, but today's the first day I've straight up gone to Amazon and seen them for delivery tomorrow.

Come take a weekend trip to our lovely countrysides and take yourself a PS5 home.

Just for fun just checked the 2 biggest PC and consoles retailers here in Israel and they only have bundles with a game, for about $900. Almost like the PS3 launch days, tho here you get a game or 2.
Private stores seems to be lower but you can't really trust them untill you are in store, many time their websites says they're in stock and when you come to the store miraculously there's none.
I got my digital PS5 at launch for $580, sounds a lot to US folks i guess but that's really a good price here.

I’ve still yet to ever actually see a PS5 in a physical store. Just yesterday I heard someone complaining about them still being hard to get. I call shenanigans on this.

Same. Only place that has them semi-regularly is Gamestop and they force you to buy a game with it if you want it.

Here in Mexico the availability of PS5 is too easy, because honestly it is very difficult to buy it for its price.

I bought the normal edition for 550 dollars new.

Checks Amazon available by invitation. Have NEVER seen one in a retail store GameStop target etc

I never had any issues finding any, but I live in a high-traffic city they likely prioritized.

Edit: Wait, why is op banned? What thread title did he alter?

No idea how is it this bad in the US, sounds like you guys are living in the middle of a desert. They're in literally every electronics chain here and have seen them piled at random ass village retailers for months now.

Well, some examples:
- The price difference between XSS and XSX hurt way more due to magnitudes differences of other currencies against the dollar

- PS5 is 100 or 150 USD above XSX hurts even more

- Most credit cards for those that can have access to them won't even buy a XSX or PS5, monthly limit is waaaaaay lower unless you're like 5% top earner or are very smart using them, so everything must be bought with cash 9 times out of 10, credit cards seems to be very common in USA but yeah, basically everywhere else people use cash they already own in their accounts or pocket

- Big Walmarts type of business? Probably some on big cities, probably not though

- Gotta get something as expensive as a console? People try whatever they can to save peanuts in the final price, even if that means no official warranty, they don't even work in the country anyway (or they're just too much of a hassle intentionally just so consumer don't even try)

Many things I've seen that Americans don't get and I think it's ok, you're in a very different context where everything is easily handed most of the time... I just hope Jimbo is right regarding the PS5, I've been planning to get one down in the line, it's just not in my top priorities, specially with those prices.

jfc. i thought the price difference in most countries was only 50 bucks
Well, I'm Colombia an XSX is around 2.7 to 3 millions pesos, PS5 can go from 3.r to 3.8 in most places I've seen... XSS is 1.5 to 1.8 millions... You can round the USD to 5000 Colombian pesos, there you do the math... And most people earn between 1.5M to 2.5M
