The PlayStation®5 and Xbox Series X|S console versions of Hogwarts Legacy support multiple graphical modes of play, the most common of which are Fidelity mode which runs at 30 fps, and Performance mode which targets 60 fps.

Graphical modes for players who have Variable Refresh Rate (VRR)-supported TVs or monitors are supported for Hogwarts Legacy on PlayStation®5 and Xbox Series X|S.

I don't like how it says Fidelity mode RUNS AT 30fps but Performance mode only TARGETS 60fps. Does it not RUN AT 60?
Well, they maybe hope gamers got the VRR koolaid and framerate fluctuating between 40 and 60 FPS being as good as fixed 60 FPS ;). It depends on how much they are banking on those internet keyboard warriors.

Another explanation is that in the outrage era, unless they can lock it to 60 FPS 100% of the time they say “target”.

They might as well lock it to 60 by dropping the resolution down to 1080p base resolution + FSR upscaling.

Member when Ubisoft said Assassins Creed Valhalla was 4k at 60fps on Series X and 4k up to 60fps on PS5 and how PS5 and the extrapolations about PS5 being underpowered.
I member… I think it’s safe to say that these expressions are used interchangeably by devs.

If it 1080p and only "targeting" 60 then that's going to be a major problem for console players on the board. Remember how much they complained about Dying Light 2.
Yeah it’s just realistic, I think some will be happy with 1080p if it’s 60 but I like others think it’s time for those Pro consoles to be announced. There could be a middle ground like a 1800p upscaled VRR 40fps mode but the game looks pretty demanding large open spaces , RT and a lot of impressive effects.

Of course I hope I am wrong and there’s some excellent optimisation going on as I’d prefer to play this on PS5.

Great news! Performance mode to me always, the best thing added this gen, would've pre order this but can't afford at $70, will have to wait for a sale, anyway i'm very pleased to hear the news. :)

I think same went for Far Cry 6 description, both run great for me on PS5, would love the same graphics and performance for Hogwarts Legacy.

Best case scenario, they said "target" because this is an open world game and depending on the situation, things can hammer the CPU and cause some frame dips

But being realistic: new multiplatform open world game that had multiple delays, aiming for 60 FPS. Expect the worst.

With FSR2 it can look decent enough (1080p) but without any good reconstruction devs can go fuck themselves.

Dynamic resolution with FSR2/TAAU is what game devs should be targeting on consoles.

As usual, need to wait for the Digital Foundry coverage to tell us what’s actually going on with the game’s performance. Sometimes just I hate modern videogames, ugh. I don’t care for having to pick which way to play it. Just make the best version you can for each system, I don’t want to constantly be wondering which mode I should be playing on.

Post has "detailed" in the title, yet very few details can be found :D

I think we all assume a performance and fidelity mode at this point. The big question now is what are the true graphical differences between the two, along with what resolutions they are running at.

Wow, first thing I disable on PC is motion blur most of the time. Why have 4K high assets if motion blur turns it into a fucking mess
I mean, I could explain it to you but I doubt you would neither understand nor respect my opinion, so 😘

But I can inform you however that there are other opinions and preferences than yours. Who would've known?

Motion blur in video games is stupid. Real life doesn't have motion blur. Only when objects move too fast for the eyes they start looking blurry, and that's exactly what they should do with video games too. The excuse that it looks more realistic in video games is bullcr*p and it's really only used to hide bad performance imho.

Especially if you look e.g. at GOW 18, the default motion blur makes your whole game look like green soup, but if you turn it off it actually starts to show the detail of the world and how nice everything looks.

Lack of numbers doesnt give me hope. A 5700xt is running the game at 1080p 60 fps. So thats what i would expect on consoles. But previously 60 fps modes for certain games dont perform equivalent to their PC hardware so i wouldnt expect a locked 60 fps.
