[Rumor] 343 is now stopping "active development" and become "franchise coordinator" of Halo. Halo Infinite Campaign DLCs scrapped, focus on MP support

Give Halo to Id.

Ugh. So much mismanagement of Halo. Should have been one of the best gaming franchises. After the weird AI sidequest of Guardians, Infinite was finally getting interesting again after 5 years of working on it, and now its DLC hopes to expand the story are scuttled.

Fuck, just fuck.

I have a very strong feeling that 343 are not the only Microsoft studio having severe issues within the company. How have there been so many acquisitions, promises and money spent, yet we can barely get any information or even a screenshot of a game that supposedly been in development for years? The entire gaming division might need restructuring or something because this is getting out of control.

I hope this is true, not in the way these gloating clowns do, but for the future of Halo. I loved the Infinite campaign, but to not follow it up in any way, while also fumbling multiplayer (which I don't care about) is unacceptable. Don't want anyone to lose their jobs or anything, but Halo needs a fresh set of eyes/talent. It's too good a series to leave in this state.

I’d like the Doom team to have a go at it. I’d love third person spin off one day too, like Vanquish by Platinum but in the environment of Halo.

I’d also like Phil to do less talk and more letting the products speak for themselves in a positive sense like Playground has done with Forza Horizon over the years . This year needs to be a good one.

Had to look that up.

Microsoft Game Studios boss Phil Spencer has admitted that the Xbox platform would lose its way if the same happened with the Halo IP.

"If we lose our way with Halo, we lose our way with Xbox, because Halo and the importance of games like CoD and other shooters, that state of the art needs to continue to move forward, and our team at 343 need to move forward with that. That's always going to be one of our success criteria," Spencer told OXM UK.

But don't panic just yet: 343 Industries has garnered the time to learn the ins and outs of the series.

"The good thing about 343 is that they've had the time, through the dev of Reach, working on getting the map packs out, and getting to know the infrastructure and the build systems and everything about Halo.

"They've also brought in their own talent and their own view so that they can put their own stamp on the franchise," he added. All in all, 343 are "in a position to take over the franchise without missing a beat."

343 currently has Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary in development for the tenth anniversary of the series, as well as kick off a new trilogy with Halo 4 next holiday season."

Ha, when you said 'Doom team' I initially thought you were referring to the posters in this thread :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I think that could be good. I'd also like to see some more variety and universe building. Hell, they could even copy the Sony third person style, give Master Chief a son and a bad back or something - would sell millions.

Halo just needs a bit of a reboot and Infinite was a step in the right direction.

What they need to do is get on with creating Halo and stop being beholden to the fans crying like babies every time a texture is altered on a gun. I serisouly think listening to the fans as much as 343i did was detrimental to the development of modern Halo games.

People were screaming for a shakeup of 343 for years - and here it is - plain as day.
The franchise isnt dead - its just going on (another) long break.
As a hardcore fan of the franchise its sad to see all the mishaps in recent years - and im pissed off - but its going to be for the best in the end.
Makes you wonder what the fuck they were doing during the first 4 years or so of "development" for Halo Infinite.

I wonder if Spencer even believed what he said about 343. 🤔

Ha ha I try to avoid the console war stuff if I can ....for a minute or two.

A third person Halo I’ve longed for but I doubt it will happen. Microsoft love their FPS games don’t they.

If true, that means a continuation of the SP is salvageable and not needing of another reboot, right? Moreso just the death of Infinite as a 10 Year live service or whatever under 343i.

Wtf is this? :

"According to them:

- Narrative solo content has proven to be difficult to produce over the past few years
- Not offering strong player retention
- Not allowing viable monetization for the sustainability of the studio and the teams"

Whatever happened to "make a good single player game" and the rest takes care of itself?

Also I thought gamepass was supposed to allow these studios to create single player content without the burden of financial concern and microtransactions? Sonething doesn't add up here.

Let's hope not. They have barely any work under their belt besides "assisting".

Give Halo to a competent dev, like id software (like 99% of gamers have been saying all along).

"It's something big and new for the franchise."
"But we're doing something unannounced, and we're doing lead development on that unannounced thing, from conception and design."

Not sure what it could be but its pretty much confirmed to be lead development.

MS will finally let Halo die now that they have Call of Duty and don't need it anymore. Thank God they are finally putting this shambling zombie of a franchise out of its misery.

More spin from the MS hucksters

Anybody with a half functioning brain can see Gamepass model facilitates more GAAS, Microtransactions and Battlepasses. Not single player games

I think Xbox is dead if this Activision deal don't go through. Good riddance. I hope Apple, Amazon or some other player enters the frey and actually contribute.

or Microsoft and Activision simply out of spite make a full exclusivity deal for all games for a couple of years.

I mean, what could Sony do again that? pretty much nothing right?

Microsoft could finance development of games and in return get all of them exclusively.

that could turn out worse for Sony than if they just had bought them.
