Monster Hunter Rise Coming to Current-Gen Consoles and Game Pass in 2023

I watched a skill up video that claimed Rise is overly easy and didn't really offer much of a challenge. Would you say that's accurate? If true, does a lack of difficulty affect how enjoyable the game is?

Does the Sunbreak DLC add a significant challenge? Would you suggest waiting until the inevitable "Sunbreak Edition" that includes the full game and DLC before buying?

Didn't tried sunbreak but yeah, the new insect moves kinda break the game, you can just spam super moves basically.

They also make the game conceptually simpler, i don't have to search for slopes etc. To do the rolling thunder move with the hammer because it is now an insect special move that i can spam.

I don't think you have to wait, the console version is probably gonna be with sunbreak included...i think?

Base Rise is very easy outside of Apex and endgame quests, especially if you play multiplayer.

Sunbreak is a lot more challenging and the endgame is really meaty with subspecies and investigations adding a lot to it. But it won’t be included at launch in January.

Since you need to do the base game to start Sunbreak you might as well play it now and be ready for the expansion.

All Monster Hunter since 2G are quite easy save for end game content, they aren't so much about surviving a fight or even completing it but just doing it faster when you know how to play better. World in particular made it so you can basically have endless healing and buff items by being able to take more from camps and what not so if you played carefully there was no reason to ever fail a hunt unless you were so out of your league a monster could one shot you or you did such pitiful damage you got a time over, playing better just let you win faster (personally I never bothered with the camps in World or Rise and played as if such features were never added and the games were still more than doable so obviously they weren't quite balanced). People who got into it more recently think Rise is different because they didn't know how to play when starting World so that seemed harder at first but it really wasn't. Hunts may have overall lasted longer because you were overall slower and just navigating the map, especially with the obnoxious design some had, took much longer as you followed green glowing trails aroujnd to reach the monster when in Rise with the wirebug mobility and palamute riding and your cohoot giving you the location of the monster you just headed straight to the action. Still, World and Rise both have a 87% recommendation ratio on Steam with Iceborne at 55% and Sunbreak at 66% (with far less ratings overall but this is a percentage so, same difference). I wouldn't say you can spam specials since they are on cooldown and aren't really specials, you're as vulnerable as with any move using them, they aren't a win button or unflinchable or whatever and need to be used as carefully and effectively as any other move. Some of the moves were previously possible without the wirebugs even. Anyway, the game has great controls, great moves for all of the weapon types, great maps and a great monster roster and that continues in Sunbreak too, especially since by the time you have either you won't have to wait for title updates to add more content but have it right out of the gate (or at least at a faster pace if they decide to stagger it). Some people were vocally against the Rampage quests in Rise but I found them as fun as any since the core gameplay was the same and not like some of the more gimmicky elder dragon fights like Zorah Magdaros, just with some tower defense thrown in making for a nice change of pace between hunts. Still, they were deprecated with Sunbreak not giving them and the Apex monsters the Master/G rank treatment for a different, cool end game with Afflicted/Risen monsters instead.

I am very curious of how they are going to upgrade the visuals for PC/XSX|S/PS5… I always found Rise to be better looking than World, something about the lighting and the materials, it just looked more pleasing to me.

They aren't upgrading them further, it's the PC version at whatever settings each system can run it comfortably in. There are trailers for it.

Did they update textures for the PC release? That is the only thing that seeing the game at 4K / highest settings could be a bit hit or miss if not.

Fucking game pass and their quality over qty approach...

I mean qty over quality....shit

Day one blasting this bbe. Even though I own it on PC a d switch.

Wish they would work out cross platform progression.

So Rampage quests are similar to tower defense? Are they required for progress or completely optional? I don't generally like tower defense games, unfortunately. It sounds like at least the traditional monster hunter gameplay is there, but there are tower defense aspects as well?

It's forced maybe a handful of times throughout the story, then it's purely optional though you needed some rewards from there for the High Rank end game, but with Sunbreak/Master/G Rank that's done away with so you can just ignore it and just get the best gear you can without it then move on to Sunbreak. Again, it's not much unlike elder dragon fights in other MH games that have you shooting them with cannons or ballistas, here you just get to also place the weapons around the area before each wave of (much faster to die individually) monsters rather than just keep shooting the one.

It's much easier than world at least, simply because of all the extra mobility options; the multiplayer being kinda shit because of switch limitations affected my enjoyment much more than the easier difficulty.

Speaking of multiplayer, is it improved from World? Do you have to keep playing the "you have watch the cutscene before I can join you" game? Or how about the "okay, we're both in the hub world, but you need to go to the special area of the hub world if you want to see me" issue?

It's better in some aspects, like not having to wait for the cutscenes, and worse in others like max 4 player lobbies, can't do village quests together, can't view a list of in progress hunts, can't search for a specific event quest, no raids.

You would think those would be common sense QoL updates they could implement? :/

Overall worse, IMO. The story restrictions in World only happens once each time, the MP restrictions for Rise affects you every time you do MP. Anomaly MP is also a huge headache because it gates players over multiple anomaly levels. It's near impossible to get a random hunt going at high anomaly levels on PC (no idea about Switch). A lot of these issues would be alleviated by just having an ongoing hunt list but I don't see it happening.

Though I guess my complaints don't apply to LegendOfKage since he seems to be talking mostly about small lobbies with a friend. In which case the only thing Rise losses out on is that you can't visit player rooms in Rise compared to World. Not like it's a huge loss since player rooms are not really that customizable in Rise.

haha...

This sucks.....I would love to get a Sunbreak box :(
Just speculation on my part, but they might just be waiting until the DLC is released so retailers don't get stuck with copies of the basic disc version. Perhaps a DLC included retail copy will eventually be released, and they're just trying to make more money from the game until that happens. That would be my guess.

Started this last night. Great fun. And is it just me or is this game freaking gorgeous on Series X? I was actually surprised by how great it looks considering it's a Switch port.

I started last night as well. Started via remote play, as my wife and I were watching garbage tv (The Circle and one of the 90 Day Fiancé shows). You can feel the difference immediately from the Switch version. Just buttery smooth.

Game does look nice, but not as good as world, but that’s expected. I hope that World 2 uses the higher quality combat and traversal mechanics from Rise.

I’m obviously playing on the game pass.

Anyone try it on ps5? How’s the gyro? Any dual sense controller stuff, like the triggers or rumble used?

I hate that I really like some things that are present in World and not in Rise, while the same happens the other way around.

Really wish for a new entry that gets the best of both World and Rise in the same package.

I think Generations Ultimate is still my favorite.

On series X it looks WAY better than world. I was blown away by it, didnt expect much at all. I put it in graphics mode and its still a flawless 60

Yup. I want to huge battle feel, graphics and destructive environments from World, and everything game play wise from Rise.

That’s a recipe for the best ever.

I think the native 4k/60 visuals go a long way with this one vs World. I'm sure World is far more sophisticated on a technical level but Rise just looks so damn razor sharp and smooth.

Exactly. I also love the monster roster in Rise, and the music is better imo too. Meanwhile World has lots of little details and I like the multiplayer far better.

Can't wait for the next MH game, should be amazing. :)

Edit: fuck me, just double dipped and got Rise + Sunbreak on Steam for 30€.

I have it on ps5 ready to go. I’m going to do my workout and run some errands, and should be on in a couple hours. Will update on how it looks and Dualsense feel.

After playing few hours last night on PS5 I really didn't like it as much I did MH World. The graphics style and aesthetic feels like targeted towards kids and the repeated animations on npc (that Utsushi guy) is very annoying. The combat feels good though but I don't like the bug as it makes the combat easy. You don't have to lure the monster to specific areas to mount or do specific attacks. Just use bug anywhere. Hopefully the monster variety and the game play will keep me interested.
