Nice sarcastic comment by proxy. Takes one to know one =P

Care to explain the gears turning that caused you to give that reaction?

I have my suspicions but for now I'd like you to explain the motivation behind said reaction dear sir.

If I recall in the original, I thought you'd have to manually select gadgets with the watch every time. I don't think it has changed.
Yeah there is no button for that, i may be confused because of the leaked remake on pc, anyway i was stuck when i had to use the door decoder, i thought i had to use the action button when it's the right trigger 🤔

I don’t remember Bunker 2 on 00 Agent being so fucking difficult. The moment I get shot at, the entire bunker knows about it and endless waves of enemies come at you.

Holy shit the XBOX version looks awful. Missing effects, polygon seams and wobbly textures?

What the hell?

Most if not all FPS on N64 had that control scheme. I think it was even the default on some.

Turok was the first that introduced this style and it was the default (and only IIRC) scheme.

But yeah, pretty much all N64 FPS had this scheme as an option at least. And when dual analog became the standard it was like a second nature to me already since the only difference was the usage of an analog stick over the d-pad. The N64 controller is the only single stick controller that allows this and all the third party controllers that dropped the trident design, because it was "too weird" and unconventional, simply broke all those games.

Deathloop when it first launched on PS5 played way worse, just one example.

they took a year to fix the dogshit controls of that game on console.

another one that plays absolutely worse is YES RDR2... which... you know... has a First person mode, which plays like pure diarrhea.

it's also a very big difference to say "modern shooters feel better to play" and "this is unplayable"
I honestly wonder HOW you can enjoy any game.

So, I started playing this game.

In general, the AI is probably the most stupid I've seen in a game. They are literally rolling into my cross hair, and I easily mow a pack down before they even start aiming at me.

Yes, I play at agent because I didn't know how hard it would be so I guess that's on me.

However, I am stuck on mission 2. I can easily gain entry with the laboraty area, but I just can't find out where to rendezvous with 006.

Destroying tanks in a bottling room is also vaguely describing, as there's rooms with bottles, glasses, and tanks (with gas).

What makes it annoying for me is that you can actually leave the mission, resulting in a failure.

I can easily the love for the game if you grew up with it, but it hasn't aged as well as some people in here would make it.

I'd suggest watching some youtube clips.

You meet with 006 in the final room of the level, with all the big gas tanks. After you chat with 006, you plant the tanks. Once the countdown begins, you can set them off before exiting the back of the room to finish the mission.

Does he have Russian elf suit on like everyone else?

If thats so, then it's because I shoot him from afar before going down there lol wtf.

Played with my son, his mom and a friend and hot damn does the multiplayer hold up. But man does the Switch controller not translate from the N64 controller correctly.

Luckily the 1.2 option + swaping the sticks works perfectly. Even got me through some single player levels on 00 Agent.

Have you seen the movie?

BTW unlike modern games.. If you fail one of the tasks, you can still continue playing the level until you die or get to the end.

With Goldeneye releasing on Switch, does that mean Perfect Dark might be a possibility?
I'd kill for just the original, I never got to play it properly. No ram cart meant no single player.

Perfect Dark has been a possibility since Banjo-Kazooie got added, but people say Nintendo won't put M-rated games in their NSO service. Don't know if it's true.

Do yourself a favor and play it on secret agent (perfect difficulty, 007 is too hard maybe). The extra non-linear missions make better use of the level design. Enemies will also be able to take a bit more damage and make insta kill headshots more important.

You can also disable the auto aim.

I don't understand how you can be stuck in mission 2 in the easiest difficulty. Agent difficulty is pretty much linear, it doesn't force you to explore as much.

006 is very easy to find. There's no way to confuse him with the generic enemies.

Is there an easier level on any game than Runway? Grab the key and run to the plane.

Got an achievement for completing the level in less than 6 minutes (SIX) last night (any difficulty). Took me about 30 seconds all in.

Keep in mind, I didn't play it at release.

I shot 006 from afar because I didn't realise he was friendly. The game didn't tell me the mission was failed or anything.

And I still find it stupid that you can end the mission by going to the exit, and fail because you didn't do the objectives.

The map didn't make it clear that I left the mission.

I can understand the love for this game if you grew up with it, and the magic it brought, since it must have been pretty big if you had a n64 back in the day, but it's truly nostalgia talking.

I ain't saying the game is bad, because I think its a cosy game, but it hasn't aged well.

Try going for the world record of 21 seconds (in-game timer).

Goldeneye is probably one of the craziest speedrun games ever made.

Code Mystics seriously removed the ability to quickly peek around corners Time Crisis-style? It was in the original game for a reason and part of what made GoldenEye 007 and Perfect Dark unique as first-person shooters. But the brilliant minds at Code Mystics just decided to chuck it? "Eh, no one probably uses this gameplay function anyway." Extreme example, but imagine a studio hired to emulate Super Mario 64 taking it upon itself to get rid of the long jump. 🤦‍♂️

Also, how did the developers manage to make all the environments wobble like a PS1 game? This was not a visual quirk in the N64 original, nor is it present in the Switch version. The graphical seams should also appear as white specs, not continuous gaping lines.

Another mishandled retro re-release.

I forgot how difficult Control is on 00 Agent trying to protect Natalya.
If you’re still struggling and aren’t already aware, standing on the second floor overlooking the computer area is the best way to protect her. You can gun down the enemies as they come down from the third floor.

Here’s a video explaining it

To be fair, even if i laughed at your comments, it makes sense in a way. Back in the day, every game came with a manual, and all of those informations were innit. I dont know if the port has some kind of manual, but, if it does, I recommend that you read it.

So you didn't know the basics of its logic before playing it because it's not exactly like every game out there. Wow? Now you've played it some you do so can enjoy it better knowing that maybe you aren't supposed to shoot everybody on sight, that it continues even after you fail, which you can check in your watch if you aren't sure things are going well after shit went down to know if you should keep playing or not (or choose to keep playing knowing you've failed just to see what else there is and do better next time) etc., hardly bad game design, maybe a little less handholdy and a bit sandboxy and it will throw new cool things at you as you go on too. Discovering stuff and interactions and progression/failure triggers is fun, the missions are bite sized anyway. It's not even that complicated, how stumped would you be playing Ocarina of Time for the first time back in the day and, for example, having to set items like the bottles as a usable item to grab insects, fairies or fish rather than just press the A button to interact while having a bottle and conversely also release them in the same way rather than just press A in front of Jabu-Jabu if this is too obscure? You don't have to only play on hard, you can finish it like this then replay it to see how the missions differ when you have to do more objectives or after discovering more possibilities for different methods. Unless you only intend to play it once through or don't find anything fun, then sure, go hard (or quit).

So is this game a remastered/recreated version or an emulation? I'm not sure if this is just disingenuous marketing or a technical difference that I can't understand. Can anyone shed some light on this and the technicalities involved? Thanks.

Sure sounds like BS in that trailer. The impression I got is that it was going to be along the lines when it was revealed is that we might be getting an updated version of the Xbox 360 port that was leaked, but updated for newer Xbox systems. Especially with wording like that in the trailer. Yet we got this lame emulation attempt. That's not "recreating" anything.

The XBOX version devs claim to have gimped it on purpose. According to them, some of it's technical issues (like the polygon seams and wobbly geometry) were made on purpose because according to them "it's more authentic".

Of course, this is bullshit. These issues aren't authentic (N64 never had games with wobbly polygons, that was the biggest feature it had over the PS1). And yes, there were polygon seams but not as often as this version. And if they cared so much about "authenticity" then why did they bother with HD resolution? If the N64 hides the seams in low res as they say, then they should have found a way to hide them in HD as well since the "hidden seams" is indeed the authentic experience after all.

Also, the filtering is wrong in this version. So their "authenticity" logic gets thrown out of the window.

Not that i believed them in the first place, i think this is just a shitty emulation attempt they pass as a "feature".

Stick to homebrew emulators.
