Oh back to behaving like a clown are we? Only been about 24 hours, that was quick.

Nope not acting like a clown, I'm just mentioning how shit it would be when sonyn starts using sign ins for their games and you said you would give them as much shit as the crazy rant you were going on about xbox live.

Here we are :) feel free to rant away.

Yep you're a desperate clown. The game does not use any DRM other than Denuvo, nor does it require you to sign in anywhere other than Steam. Doesn't even require you to create Epic account. But please carry on. Misinformed as usual.

Maybe you should just stick to attempting to shill for Xbox in the future, seems like the only thing you're mildy competent at.

What's the state of stutter-struggle at launch on this ?
Quite bad apparently, but some bros over at the other thread claim that it's caused mostly by RTX, and isn't nearly as bad as some outlets are claiming.

Drama sells and all that, so it wouldn't surprise me.

Its me or HDR is really bad in this game ? Blacks are grey and no its not my neo G7 monitor with near inky blacks in others games like God of war...

I was right to wait and not buy PC version at launch.

3070 is just no gonna cut it. Not going to buy and play the game again on PC until I get something on a level of 4090 for 4K 60 with RT. PS5 version will do just fine until then.

I totally missed that. I've no idea if I'm imagining things but this game sounds fantastic on my headphones. I owned an Aureal Vortex card back in the 90s and I don't think I've heard this good 3D audio since then.
I told you guys. The audio in this game is a masterclass.

Couple it with the haptics and it was a glorious experience at launch.

No disagreement there. I also think it's a good reminder of how badly 3D audio has lagged behind 3D graphics.

It was already damn good 25 years ago. But then Aureal went bankrupt and Microsoft ended up killing the APIs in Windows Vista. We've basically been left with tons of audio channels but shitty localization ever since then.

I ran the benchmark back to back with the RT audio off and on to have the same reference of sound as the benchmark is always the same and yes, it’s a step up with my headphones. Superb audio in this game.

Jesus, now this is a fun gameplay, I can't stand rogue-likes, really don't like them, but this game, don't know, seems different. The fast paced moving and shooting, tight and responsive controls, the simple and yet interesting art style, I like it a lot.
Don't know why this isn't viewed better by the PS fans, better yet by the critics, because it deserves to be there at the top, but to each his own.

I had hope when I saw that the game was precompiling at start but there are stutters when entering a new zone/area.
Otherwise, game is excellent and runs well on my rig (112fps on a 9900k + 4070ti). Might buy a PS5 gamepad to play this.

The forced Epic Online thingy is a dealbreaker for me. Good thing I have plenty enough games to play.
EOS is the backend for alot of games.
If the game has cross progression, strong chance its using EOS to do that (Microsoft games notwithstanding).
EOS makes so many feature super easy for developers if you are truly anti Epic then i feel sorry for you, cuz you probably are already playing a game that uses EOS right now.
You are gonna have to cancel yourself sooner rather than later.

Its easily the fastest growing online backend right now, EOS is easy to set up for devs and a cheaper alternative to making a new system or renting from another company.

I take it you also skipped out on Hades, Among Us, Rocket League, Fall Guys and any number of titles that use EOS as their backend?

I think some games (like Cyberpunk) outputs HDR in limited RGB range. If you have an HDMI black level setting in the monitor, try changing it to low or whatever it is called.

The game is optimised as fuck but there is little shader compilation stutter going on as the initial shader cache generation barely takes 1 minute and I suspect it's incomplete GHG GHG . I tested it on 3070 and epic settings with RT Shadows and RT Reflection set to epic, DLSS quality, textures to max and well the average GPU usage was 67% at 4K60 with CPU usage barely hitting 20 on any 12th gen Intel. Ram at 12 gb and vram 6-7 gb for most scenarios. The IQ simply shits on PS5. The other impressive aspect of the launch is the audio options. This is pretty much the most polished PC release of a PS game behind Days Gone. However I fully agree with you that the game however simply cannot be played with even one stutter due to its gameplay design. I tried, then quit and now I wait for patches. Agent_4Seven Agent_4Seven wtf are you talking about.

It's OK bro, I've seen your clever cover up of your allegiance. I thought you were to be respected and actually a middle of the road guy, but you're allegiance is clear to me now.

So if i am a clown, you're deffo a clown too.

If you don't have to sign into epic then I apologise in this case and I have been misconstrued by what others were saying so thanks for the update. I guess the game can be on your radar still. I was just never bothered by that stuff anyway and would have happily signed into an epic account.

Back on topic.

As soon as I hear the stutters are fixed, I'm in on this x a million. I can then play co op with my bud.

I am sorry to interrupt and go off topic.

But I've been following your discussions with GHG (here and in other threads) and to me it seems you are simply wrong calling him out about this.

EOS is used in many games, for some games you'll have to have an epic account for most you don't.
In Returnal on PC you don't need an account or another sign in, but you need the service installed and running for some online functions.

This differs from scenarios which were discussed in othere topics, because you don't need to start up and log into another store/service/plattform.

So this is more about you having an issue with him and therefore grasping at straws to find something you can use to discredit his arguments.

One would think you'd verify the details before coming to drag me into your petty bullshit, but alas, this is always the way when someone is emotionally damaged because their favourite brand has been in for some rightful criticism of late.

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
Btw I clicked cancel during EOS installation and the game still booted with no complaints. Don't intend to play online anyway if that doesn't work because of it (the interface at least works, enabling online, having the choice to find or create a public/private game etc., but I didn't click on them).

Definitely stutters but it's fps drops here and there, minor ones. I don't get major pauses or ridiculous frame rates drop. It's definitely playable and even enjoyable but it would definitely be nice if they could clear those up.

The game isn't too demanding either. Max settings with RT at 3440x1440 and stable 120fps at around 85-90% GPU usage. I might drop below 120 when things really start to get hectic but DLSS should take care of that assuming I need it at all. I feel that Housemarque was too conservative with the internal res on PS5. It could probably do 2560x1440 and remain locked to 60fps.

I appreciate your reply. I was led to believe by many that it was a forced log-in process, but if I understand you correctly that's not the case. With that said, either way I'm not trying to save the world here, so it's not at all complicated to me. If I can avoid Epic (meaning the Epic store and its launcher), I do. But if for some reason it makes things complicated I don't. Easy peasy.

This has nothing to do with having an Epic account, or the Epic games launcher.

Its just the online backend.
Kinda like how some games use AWS backend and will force you to install aws services.....you dont need an Amazon account to play that game, the devs are just using the technology behind the scenes.
When you look at what dependencies and redists games use trying to adamantly avoid certain companies is really a futile effort, cuz even if you say well ill just play on console......chances are the console version is using the same backend services too.

Didn't try with RT off. There are not many stutters which is why it's more jarring because it smooth as heck for most part like way better than control launch and other such games. Silky smooth so the one stutter that happens during combat just spoils the fun and it can't be saved by VRR. Need one patch atleast. I did run a benchmark with high settings instead of epic but than GPU utilisation was around 47% and it didn't stutter at one or two places like epic but it did on other one place. Anyway I died because of stutter and thats what matters, and I usually play my games on hard if not hardest so we are not talking skill here. The shader compilation is real sus here as it only takes like 1 fucking minute at best and I think they can and most probably will fix in like 7 days.

You are right, I should have looked into it further but it was more of a looking at other people's posts, believing it was a sign in required and I just thought of GHG GHG as a sort of wink, wink, nudge nudge look at this shit dude. As yes, I had mentioned what would you do when your favourite Sony games start requiring sign ins to other accounts but it seems this one is different than I had pictured it from other people's posts in disgust.

I have no problem in admitting when I'm wrong and take the L. GHG GHG genuine apology, man.

32% off at Cdkeys, that's as cheap as it gets this close to launch.
Still not cheap enough. Thinking of renting it until the price gets reasonable.
I'd be ok with the $59 price tag if they released it on the same day as the PS5 version.
You can't hold off a year or two and expect getting the same price.
Well, you can but Good Luck.

I missed this on my PS5 but picked up for my PC yesterday knowing it would likely run better than the console version on my new machine. I always liked Housemarque's previous games so I thought I'd give it a go finally. So I bought a key from CDKeys for £33 (versus £50 on Steam) and downloaded it...

Game seems to run okay, apart from some minoring stuttering (which I am led to believe is caused by the RT features), and I am getting around 100 fps on 1440p maxed out settings with both RT setting enabled and set to Ultra. The problem is that the game itself is not grabbing me as much as I'd hoped. It feels very much like a Dark Souls clone with guns mixed with an arcade twin-stick shooter. The narrative is threadbare and the environments all feel small and claustrophobic, reminding me very much of the level design of Metroid Prime, which I am also replaying in remastered form on my OLED Switch. Graphically the game looks fine but it is so dark and the areas so small that it doesn't impress with its environments or detail in the same way as, say, Elden Ring or Hogwarts Legacy.

I am very, very, very slowly warming to it - I was actually almost starting to enjoy it last night - as I explored and got some permanent upgrades such as this gadget for the back of the suit but being sent back to the start every time I die is kind of dampening my enthusiasm to play it to be honest. That and the high difficulty level. The difficulty I do not mind too much but dying and losing the better gun I had just picked up a few minutes before was starting to annoy me. I feel this game would have benefitted from a proper level design and progression system akin to Metroid Prime but it seems it is really just a rogue-like arcade shooter with not much in the way of depth beyond the heavily skill-based gameplay.

Gameplay could be fun, not sure yet, though audio quality is killer indeed.
But oh boy, it's too bad we only have a handful of these exclusive games supporting dualsense on PC

I think I'm starting to experience the trouble mentioned all the time. When you die in the second biome, you go back to first one. It will be like this until you beat the third biome boss. Even Dark Souls doesn't do that, there should have been a separate starting point for each biome. I'm already getting tired after 5 hours but I won't give up soon.

It's not that long. You find the way to second biome pretty fast in each playthrough.
