It's on my list, too. I only played for half an hour as a first test and loved how figuring out the lovely designed in game manual is part of the experience as a game mechanic. It's such a silent game that is calm and yet challenging.

Recently have been interested in getting a Steam Deck but at this point I'm not jumping in. Hopefully Steam is working on a 2nd generation model or at least a revision.
I'd want something with better battery life, maybe a 16:9 screen, and 1TB storage.

Someone found a way to get hogwarts legacy running pretty well. I am getting 50 - 60fps pretty stable with it
Game takes a visual hit but runs way better.
Got it from a reddit post but it works really well.

Bought the third party one from JSAUX. I'm completely alright with it. It is sturdy, even weighs a few gramms more than the official one and has all I needed for just under 50 EUR.
I don't use it that often, but the times I've been using it, everything worked as expected.

I pre-ordered a 1tb ssd from sabrent. They seem pretty reliable compared to others. Can't wait to get it, I really just wish Valve would release official dual boot support. It would just make everything so much easier.

Some retailers in Australia have started importing these things so I took the chance to grab a 64gb model. I assume it will get no proper support from Valve in the event of a warranty issue but our trading laws are quite strong so the retailer will have to support it at least. Have also grabbed a 512gb ssd which is still on the way.
Honestly had given up on gaming as a medium as my PC barely got used. I usually have an hour or so to spare at a time and sitting at my desk and turning the PC on never feels worth the effort. The deck has been a great time killer so far and I've been enjoying play brotato and condemned in short bursts. Playing one of my favourite 360 era games in handheld at 60fps is a pretty cool experience.
Decky loader is also awesome, VibrantDeck helps inject a little life into that ips screen. The CSS plugin is also cool for changing the look of your library etc. Really cool how open this is, I know it's just a handheld PC, but still cool. Looking forward to seeing how much of my backlog gets cleared on this piece of plastic

I totally forgot about the condemned series! Currently playing through FEAR 1 (got the trilogy +dlc in last weekends sale) and it's just a blast. Never played Condemned and the smaller screen I've found is the perfect way to eliviate some of the more dated graphics.
Brotato is one of those games I've sunk a lot of time in over the months. Currently nearing the 40 hour mark and trying to complete a legendary run with every character.
Also bought Gunfire Reborn in the weekend sale and I'm having a blast. The gameplay is almost Halo like in the shield recharge, movement and some of the weapons the game carries. Perfect fit for the Deck, although the runs are kind of long (which is why I love brotato so much, short 15-20 minute runs). Going to get some good time out of this one.
For those that swapped SSD's already: is it beginner friendly stuff? I am thinking about making that my upcoming holiday project, but apart from building my own pc, I've never really taken on any other comperable endeavor. If it is: what brand do you guys recommend?

Yeah, they don't directly sell any hardware to us here. Don't think Valve are a massive fan of our consumer protection laws after our consumer commision fined them $3m for misleading people with unlawful (in aus) refund policies. It's likely what kicked off the refund policy we see now. The deck only just started to become available in some parts of Asia though so maybe in time they will officially launch it here.

I keep reading about Decky and man, I am just too lazy. The Deck already does everything I need it to except have native screen recording, but that's already solved.

It's a very easy install, once installed it's just so easy to add amazing features.
vibrant deck really makes games pop
and there are a LOT of nice touches you can add that just really improve the experience.

Vibrant Deck is worth the small task of getting Decky installed, alone, but I also like how it very easily allowed me to have The Golden Girls opening video as my Deck start-up.

I do all of my console/pc gaming on an oled screen so the deck looked lifeless and washed out in stock config. I'm not one to like overly saturated images either but the vibrant plugin set to around 120 just breathes a little colour into the screen and looks more in line with what I expect from an ips display. Decky loader is a 2 minute install and you can download/manage plugins from the sidebar with ease.

Got it yesterday, havent been able to put it down. Been a long time since I've been this impressed with a piece of hardware.
I'm in love.
All we need is that oled mod ASAP but I'm that impressed that I will be in for a deck 2 pre order the second it goes live.

I have a feeling that my Deck is going to get quite a bit of usage since Octopath Traveler II is now Deck Verified. Being able to comfortably shift between my 4K OLED TV, 3440x1440 Ultrawide monitor, and Steam Deck seamlessly is really this hardware's killer function for me.

Actually, Valve apparently honour the warranty no matter where or how you purchased it. I imported mine in Australia via StockX after doing some research on exactly this.

One of the greatest games I’ve ever played. I cheated on a few of the fairy puzzles and secret statue things after clearing the final boss. I figured out the golden path, which was the pinnacle for me. The water one had me screenshot & assemble in photoshop. Only 2 achievements missing. I’m going to 100% this for sure.
Got Earthbound vibes in the Monastery. FFVII in the Library. DS, Zelda obviously. Fez to the nth degree (another all time great IMO).
Combat got surprisingly engaging at the late game. I loved every boss fight. This cap was on desktop but I played 60-75% on the Deck.
I want more puzzle games like this. I’ll be following this dev for sure going forward.
11/10 for me.

if you haven't played it yet I highly recommend Steamworld Heist and Steamworld Dig 2, incredible series. Heist is sort of a 2D xcom game and plays very well on steamdeck.

Have you played Hyper Light Drifter? It's not so much about puzzles but more about action and exploration, lots and lots of exploration with many secret areas to find.
I loved that game, might buy it for a third time to play on the Deck.

Aw man I'm so happy you enjoyed it! I know I've been singing its praises for ages in this thread so I'm glad you finally got around to it!
It funny, I'm not sure I would have enjoyed it as much on pc. On Deck this game brought back strong memories of playing Gameboys.

I actually thought the boss fights were the weakest parts of the game for me though. I absolutely loved exploring the world and fighting the enemies but to my mind the controls aren't precise enough to consistently put up with the design of the bosses. It's possible I'm just not very good at the game though I guess.
Your game comparisons are apt. I had the same impression. I think the library was absolutely beautiful and I would have liked to have it be a larger area, but perhaps that part of its charm.
Anyway I could write a book about this game but I'll just say that I'm happy you enjoyed it too.
Lastly I think the moment that I still remember vividly was when I discovered a certain weapon.

Finished off Condemned already last night in bed at 3am lol. Can't remember the last time I gamed like that, deck bringing some strong psp level feels back for me.
Forgot how frustrating that last chapter can be on hard if you've leaned on the taser as the game just takes it away. The dual pipe wielding guy is hard to consistently block and can do massive damage with successive attacks before you can respond. Still one of my favourites after over 15 years though, what a banger.
Brotato serving as a nice colourful pallete cleanser now This game is addictive af. I think I'll hook into Stick of Truth next, have been meaning to play that for ages.

I already own Dorf. It was all right. I probably need to go back and give it another go. I think I played when it was in early access because it felt pretty barren at the time.

Started Norco yesterday on my Deck. Went to play on my desktop and no Steam cloud support. I hate when devs don't incorporate the cloud save system into their games.
On the plus side, I've gotten pretty good at finding the save file location and manually transferring across devices.

Should be fine as long as you are comfortable with that amount of space. Add a microsd though. Speedwise I've seen videos on youtube that say there isn't much difference.

That's the best the deck is used for, imo. Playing modern games is possible and still great, but the battery will drain quickly. Meanwhile you can play any old or indie title for like 6-8 hours no issue.
By the way, if you think you could regret getting the 64GB model bear in mind that it'd be possible to get your own ssd, open the deck and replace it later on if you ever need it.

I think you should be fine with a microSD then. And there are videos on how to upgrade to a SSD on youtube if you decide later to do so. The drives are becoming more common now. Sabrent has a 256gb and a 1 TB launching in March.

Finished up The Last Campfire. It was decent but man, it was not a good game to play right after Tunic. The puzzles were like child's play after Tunic. Great art style was even less interesting when comparing. Exploration felt so constricted. I think it would normally be a 7 or 8/10 for me.
On Act 2 in Norco. The writing is decent but the pacing is a bit weird. There are moments where you just have to wait to advance the text that get excessive. A couple of characters so far have been highlights, including this one.

I love the atmosphere, but being very early on I'm playing that guy's mother and it's not really that interesting right now, doing that scavenging hunt in that city to find these symbols. I know these type of games need gameplay somehow, but it's just a tad boring .

That's where I am now. Just found the 3rd one. The writing really is the highlight. When it hits, it hits. I'm hoping to make it through Act 2 today and maybe a bit of act 3. Then finish up tomorrow. Not sure yet if I will dive straight into Stasis or this other game Stone.
Working through Murder by Numbers as well. I love picross/nonogram games.
Not certain what comes after that. My backlog is still massive so I've plenty to choose from.
