I'm having a real tough time with the pc performance on this one.
Anyone else using a rtx 4070 ti?
I just recently installed mine and atomic heart runs amazingly 4k 120fps max settings.

This game though absolutely tanked in performance the second the sorting hat scene happened.

Any advice?

Nearly 40 hours in at this point. I'm guessing I have another ~5 hours before I complete the main story.

Game is incredible. Every few hours they add something new that makes me go "holy shit, THIS is included too?"

It's not a perfect game though. Definitely some lack of polish here and there, performance can leave something to be desired, and the menu system is really cumbersome, especially considering you have to navigate it constantly.

But damn, just the amount of love and dedication shown to the lore and world, the sheer scope and variety of things to do in the game, the music, the tone... They've just nailed so many things. It's captured that Harry Potter "magic" in spades.

Solid 9/10 from me unless the ending completely shits the bed.

There's so much that could be explored in sequels as well. Ilvermorny (the United States school), other schools, London, Diagon Alley, Knockturn Alley, the Ministry of Magic, etc.. etc..

Edit:

Also, Sebastian and Poppy's quest lines are far superior to the actual story, which I kind of stopped caring about and sort of lost the thread with. Closing in on the finish now, spent over 30 hours just doing side quests and stuff related to the Room of Requirement. What a great game. I hope they push updates addressing all of the criticisms people have been sharing on the official subreddit, and I pray for at least one substantial piece of DLC.

How is the current state of the game on PC?

Want to play but if there are any glazing performance or graphical issues I’m ok with waiting for more patches.

I don't play on PC but according to a lot of people on the main subreddit, it doesn't seem to be optimized well. People with kick-ass highend systems are reporting low framerates and hitching even at 1440p.

how do I get to the playstation exclusive quest? which one is it?

Advance the story until winter arrives. After every quest look at the map for Hogsmeade until a map marker appears in the southeast corner. It will be a female house elf NPC that gives the quest.

Edit: the marker for the NPC will appear on your map, if that wasn't clear. It only appears in winter after you have completed certain main and side quests.

About 10 hours in and I'm struggling to get into it. Just finding the quests a bit dull, especially the stuff you need to do to learn new spells.

It is pretty obvious they put the most effort into the PS5 version.
It has the most extras. Kinda annoying.

A potion that barely does anything better than spamming revelio and a single quest whose primary reward — a shop where you can sell items for an extra 10% — comes so late in the main story arc that money isn’t that much of a concern any longer.

That‘s the entirety of the “extras”. While the quest itself was enjoyable, you’re not really missing much if you don’t have Felix Felicis or the Haunted Hogsmeade quest.

You also get all the neat stuff with the controller on the PS5 version. They need to patch that into the PC version.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
I had a really weird thing happen... My son and I are both playing the game on the same PC (different Steam accounts). So today, I loaded up my save on my Steam Deck while he was playing on the PC. When he was done on the PC, he signed out of his account and I signed back into mine. On the Steam Deck, I saved and exited the game so I could play it on the PC. When I booted up the game on the PC, my save file had somehow got overwrote with his save (he's not nearly as far as I am). When I exited the game, it synced this bad save to my Steam Cloud.

Now when I launch the game, regardless of device, I've got his character. I think I'm fucked, there doesn't seem to be a way to recover my old save from the Steam Cloud, as it only keeps the most recent copy.

I was about 15 hours in, about 2/3rds of the way through the game. Fuck.

Do your choices during quests matter? I wonder if playing again I can steer things differently with Sebastian. I wrapped up the main story. Supposedly there are several side quests I missed. I have a few map quests I passed on, but there seems to be more. So may places in the game that I did not explore. Many caves I did not venture into, etc. The game was way better than I imagined it would be. I am glad I picked it up. Essentially no bugs for me either. Overall the game is a gem.

Sebastian's storyline is probably my favourite. Poppy and Natsai are cool as well. Wish there was more of that.
Overall, almost 30h in and I'm still having great fun.

Such a cozy game.

Can anyone help I logged in this morning and my latest save is about 10 days old. Im basically missing around 6 hours worth of gameplay. I regularly save manually and none of the latest saves are showing. This is on ps5.

Cap at 60. Set RT to medium or off. Possibly turn down fog to high. Everything else should be able to run ultra.

Finally getting back into the game. Unlocked the freezing spell glacius (?) and FLIPENDO! God i can still hear Harry from the PS1 game of PS yelling this in my head after all these years.

I saw on the Steam forums that the content for the PS version is already in the game files and a mod can be used to activate it.
Yeah you can do that. I think you need to use a save editor. Seems quite easy to do.

Are you sharing your library with him? Sounds like it got confused by multiple sign ins synchronising.
Also if you didn't sync the steam deck save file afterwards (it should give you a warning like your local save is out of sync, choose which one to sync), it should still be there.

Edit: maybe this can help you:

Why did the mods close the thread about the latest JK Rowling tweet? That was awesome.

I never liked Harry Potter, but I LOVE this woman. It seems most of us still think like rational people, but almost everyone is afraid to speak up. I'm glad she isn't one.

Edit - oh I see, it was faked. Well, nevermind.

She has the "fuck you" money. So can speak up. If the average person spoke up they'd probably get fired from their job and find it difficult to get another one. When you are a billionaire then that obviously doesn't apply to you. She might end up with some legal issues but again she is a billionaire so she'll be fine. Rowling can afford to speak up, be taken to court, and take others to court.

On a 4070 ti definitely set textures to Medium or High. This game eats up VRAM for fun. I'm seeing ~11GB VRAM usage on my 4080 and my textures are at High. You don't need Ultra unless you're playing at 4K. Even High at 1440p is probably overkill. Medium for 1440p or 1080p is good enough.

Also, how much RAM are you running?

I'm running a 3080, and the game did the same, absolutely tanked at the sorting hat scene. Literally unplayable from then on. Added more RAM, now it runs pretty well. Not the smoothest experience, but will go from anywhere from about 60 to 120fps. But no major stutters

The game does seem to need more than 16GB of ram. Time to upgrade to 32GB.
Yup. It LOVES ram. I had been very confused as to why so many people are complaining about performance when I get basically a locked 75 fps with a 3080 with overhead to spare, but realized my system was regularly sitting at 20 GB of RAM usage when playing. 16 doesn't cut here!

Also don't use RT. It doesn't add much and eats frame rate for no reason.

are we supposed to believe that the playstation side quest was intentionally created for them, & that it isn't just a regular side quest that got fenced off?...
Does it make a practical difference for players to know that?

Your comment is just console war bait.

Man this game breaks down and turns into shit in the final act. Game breaking bugs galore. I literally cannot finish the game, it is broken in like 5 ways and I am not being hyperbolic.

Oh well. I guess I'll come back to it in a month or two.

really!?
What platform. I didn't had any crashes.
Only had 1 time in all of 40 hours when fps dropped and I had to restart the game (ps5)00000000000000000000000000

Quests that don't reveal their final exit. Old school type bugs. Shit sucks man. I googled up the results and see people cheerfully finishing quests that I am locked out of.

What a waste of $80 or whatever.

EDIT: I have reloaded my game three times and it is broken on new ways each time. Fuck.

if considering the possibility that what was described as a plus for some might actually have been, in reality, a minus for others constitutes 'console war bait', so be it. i'm personally nearing completion of hogwarts on the ps5, & have greatly enjoyed the game, including that particular quest. i have no interest in going after sony. i just don't like sleazy business practices, is all...

Haven't finished his quest yet but I kind of wish sidequests had good and bad endings.

I was digging Sebastian's quest but the moment he...

... Decides to go primadona on me for telling him about the goblin, bro, I wish his quest could go sideways and you learned avadra kedrava by killing him in the end :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Get used to it, after MS deal with Activision, Sony is certainly going to pursue more of these and timed exclusivity deals, and the growing ps5 install base is going to make it easier for them.
These deals have been happening for a long time between all platform holders and aren't going anywhere, it's how business works. Complaining about it in internet forums is fruitless.

16gb and I suspected this could be the issue as well as it's using 15gb as it is. It's by far the highest I've ever seen.

I was considering upgrading to 32gb ddr4. Glad to hear from someone it works.

i'm not 'complaining'. i'm simply seeing something that's there to be seen. &, no, calling a spade a spade is never 'fruitless'. there's always room for truth. one can't always eliminate sleaze, but one can at least recognize & acknowledge its existence...

MS did the exact same thing in the 360 gen. They always use the install base advantage for this things.
It's still less sleazy then a trillion dollar company buying a 70bn publisher to "be able to compete" with a 100bn company.

so, you're now agreeing with me that it's worth 'noticing' & pointing out this shit?...

My biggest complaint of the limited gear slots vanished when I realized you could wear any gear "overtop" the gear you have on for stats. I didn't see that little option in the gear menu.

I wish more games had that system. Let you use any gear for it's stats but then also wear whatever the hell you want for fashion.

No that has always been pointless, it's pointless today and will always be pointless. People won't stop buying games because of that. It's very naive and unrealistic to think it will make a difference.
