Resident Evil 4 Remake – third trailer, demo, and DLC ‘The Mercenaries’

Looks terrible. Having Luis as a sidekick would work if they hadn't turn Leon into a stuckup asshole and Luis into a Don Quijote wannabe that Leon hates.

Graphics are meh to bad. Capcom's continuing refusal to use baked lighting in these games is just baffling. Every material being ultra shiny doesn't help.

So in other words it is absolutely perfect for RE! The series with lines such as "And Jill, here's a lockpick. It might be handy if you, the master of unlocking, take it with you" or "Your Right Hand Comes Off?"
The problem is the tone. The OG RE4 was silly from beggining to end and knew it. Capcom's latest RE games all go for try-hard seriousness.

Agreed with this. Leon is being a dick for no reason to Luis, when they seemed to play off eachother with respect in the original. They used to feel like two guys in a shit situation just happy to have a bit of comfort/support for eachother, and could have actually ended up as friends had Luis not being impaled. Now Luis just comes off as a loser I want to ditch ASAP.

I think we should reserve judgement until it's out. Luis died pretty early in the original, and from what we've seen he's a different character in the remake. Let's see what they do with it.

Anyone else miss Leon and Krauser's muscles?

Damn i wish people would stop using the standard HD re-releases (ps3, 4, xbox, etc) as samples of RE4 graphics.
Except for GC/Wii versions ( prefferably via emulation) or the PC with post-processing patches active, all HD releases are a fucking mess in terms of graphics, missing virtually all post-processing, advanced particles, fire and dust effects.

Don't use that, the game looks so much better than that.

Did the Wii version retain all of the effects the GameCube version had? Far as I could remember only the GameCube version is the definitive version (until this Version most likely) from a lighting, PP, graphics standpoint.

Wii version is virtually identical to GC, except for very small differences in some cutscene to gameplay transition, a few small differences in menu and, a bit more noticeable, the default zoomed-in fake 16/9 image (wii version is not true widescreen as some think), that messes a bit with some gfx assets, making them more aliased than on GC.
Overall, in my opinion GC is superior graphically (either emulated in high res or on original console on crt), and except for the fantastic HD-project with the fully remade textures and fully included effects, the best way to play it still.

I’d honestly wait. Otherwise you run the risk of getting too use to the original. The original is a complete package.

I wonder if there will be snakes.

Well. I tried. Played past the village to the boulder trap. That atmosphere! Still feels good, but the game controls and camera work are so outdated/limited. From 2023 perspective, total pain in the ass. Mind you. A lot of that quirkiness contributes to sense of dread. Like trying to turn, move camera when overwhelmed.
I think, a major challenge for this remake will be striking that balance with updated controls and enemy design.

O OCASM

I agree about the quality of the light. Looks like most Hollywood horror movies today, where you cannot see much because they blanket what's ahead of your face in absolute unholy darkness. Must be intentional. Yet it feels pointless.

I think the parts during the daytime are fine, but once you reach a dark room, oh man. The RE2 RE Engine feeling comes straight back.

exsactly my thoguht.
Even when they use 2014 hd release, they are using the updated textures which are selectable in the options

Any ETA on this demo?!
Nope.

However the Capcom Spotlight stream on March 9th will feature RE4R, so they will probably announced the date for the demo then, or just drop it during the stream. If there's no word on the demo then, then I don't know what they're waiting for because the game is less than 20 days away.

The third trailer reminds me a lot of RE5's tone due to the bombastic soundtrack.

Not sure it really fits with RE4, and i've noticed other iconic music like the ambient save theme seems to be completely missing. The soundtrack to RE2 remake wasn't really anything to write home about either (thank god for the retro RE2 soundtrack DLC).

Part of me hopes they do remake RE5 next, or perhaps greenlight another action focused RE game. Just don't go too far into RE6 territory.

The reflections on the bricks are brighter than the fire/light source for one.

Rise of the Tomb Raider vibes.

I would wage at least 95% of people playing the game will be too engaged with the gameplay and exploration to notice small things like that. As long as the game itself is fun, minor imperfections with the visuals aren't going to bother people.

I'm playing Horizon TFW for the first time right now. Arguably one of the best looking games to date. It's a Graphics Whore's wet fucking dream. But it's not helping the actual game itself be anything more than an uninspired sequel. Only reason I'm continuing to push through and play it, is to kill time till RE4R comes out.

Graphics enhance immersion, which is important for a horror/ thriller game.

Also there's no really good reason why this looks worse than Resident Evil Village from both a technical and artistic perspective.

What time is it?

I'm not sure why as I haven't even spent a great deal of time with RE6, but that's the vibes I'm getting from the RE4 remake. Or maybe we are in the tail end of an RE cycle that always leaves me with a bitter taste in my mouth. The more footage I see, the less excited I am. I really wish this remake was more faithful to the original and akin to the Resident Evil remake on the Cube.

It's fine to criticize games, but RE4R looks incredible overall. The crushed blacks argument seems a little nitpicky to me when everything else looks spot on, but whatever.

It looks about on par with Village to me. I'm not impressed by people's ability to screenshot gameplay at the exact moment to show off minor graphical inconsistency.

If this suppose to look "ugly" then I guess I'm fucking blind, I'm not seeing it.

It's because overall it looks good, just some minor things you could consider subpar for a 2023 game even thought it was made for last gen.

NeoGaf can be the video game community of Master Chef. About 2/3rds of it's members are chill, but the other third is fucking Joe when it comes to graphics.

Leon received the bitchy treatment like Jill in re3 remake.

RE4make Leon after years of rigorous secret agent training:

I'll chalk it up to an untrained eye. Leon is pretty muscular in the remake and Krauser is huge. You're confusing an unrealistic bone structure, which he had in the original, with muscle mass. His shoulders are now realistically proportioned.(Leon) Krauser is a tank, he just isn't shirtless now.

Are people actually saying this looks graphical worse then RE8?

Seems on par if not a bit better with the characters models to me

Some people just have higher standards in 2023.

The game looks barely better than re2 remake, a 4 years old game when it should look better than horizon fw, a damn full fledged open world game that runs circles around this thing graphically speaking.

Looking good was never the point, it should look much better than this.

I'm so excited about Merc, speciall with Wesker and Hunk my top 1 fav RE character

Even tho Luis ans Sherry weren't playable in original but would be awesome to make them availble in 4Remake Merc.

PS: Ada looks fine but her voice is a bit weird, i hope also she will have her classic long red dress

With this generation I think we all need to adjust expectations since pretty much every game is cross gen.

Plus these games are on the Series S as well whereas Horizon is an exclusive.
