PS5 Creators: How Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores will harness the power of PS5

Guerrilla details how it's leveraging the console features to make for a new unique adventure.

How have you taken advantage of PS5’s power to create Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores?

Game Director Mathijs de Jonge:

"One of our key priorities with Horizon games is to add a ton of detail and richness to our environments. On Horizon Forbidden West, everything we added or increased was something we’d need to have a plan around how to optimize for PS4 as well. On Burning Shores, since we can just focus on PS5, we’ve been able to charge forward and we’re really excited about what we’ve been able to pull off in creating this stunning post-post-apocalyptic version of Los Angeles.

The cityscape ruins of LA and its surroundings are highly detailed and require a lot of processing power as well as fast streaming technology to run properly; especially when the player is flying over the lands and can see a lot at once. One of the settlements is situated in and around those detailed ruins, and we were able to squeeze a lot of activity in there.

Another notable one is a particular battle scene that requires a LOT of memory and processing power! To achieve this grand vision both technically and creatively, we definitely were thankful for the many advantages that the PS5 hardware brings."

More details.

Interested to see what this action setpiece can do. We dont get a lot of action setpieces anymore so to hear them talk about how its only possible on the PS5 thanks to its streaming tech has me hyped.

Faster flying speeds is great to see it. You were basically gliding in the original game.

Fuck yeah! Hopefully this will give us a glimpse of what true PS5 games will look like, it's already has mind blowing graphics on base HFW. Graphicswise GG never disappoint.

Like someone else said on the blog I find it peculiar that Burning Shores is supposedly coming out in 4 weeks and doesn't have any listing or price on PSN yet.🧐

Hardwarezone:
Are there any noticeable differences between the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions of the game? Has this cross-generation development process proven to be limiting in any way?
Mathijs de Jonge:
I don't think the cross-generation development was limiting in any way.

The worst thing thats happened this gen is that devs like Neil and Mathis have straight up lied to us like suits like Jimbo and Phil typically do. We all stan for devs and stick up for them, but its obvious now that they were towing the company line.

I should boot up FW at some point. Bought it ages ago and never bothered playing it. Is it possible to smash through the main quest line without doing much side stuff?

I wonder if this DLC will have that scene with Erend kidnapped with the Tremortusk. That fight/story was never in the main game and they showed it at a showcase.

Seems like he feels he has to say something along these lines to hype it up. I just don’t see how it could be a substantial bump if it’s using the same cross-gen engine. Don’t think they would overhaul it for DLC.

It wouldn't take more than 10 post to derail a thread about using PS5 tech to enhance a game to were are Aloy big breast and ass (and please shut her mouth). Neogaf...

There's a character in the first game that is hiding some big pups. Can't remember who, but it was relatively early in the game. Game should have had her as the protagonist.

Nope was a scripted showcase in the 2020 build of the game, I've seen the dev footage cause there's FW dev builds floating around the web for jailbroken PS4's.

I really don't wanna derail the thread further but I've beaten the first game about 4 times and absolutely cannot recall that character.

Doubt it, unless they heavily reworked Decima's streaming and lighting system.
Will look unquestionably stunning though.

Nonsense, they already transformed the completely flat Hanna Hoekstra into 10/10 boobies.

Won't post the actress innocent topless because it costed me my first and only ban, but just use google and compare that literal male chest to this:

Yeah it's weird how this is supposedly coming out soon but we have seen nothing.
Either way I'm looking forward to what they do visually. The base game already looks incredible and while I'm not expecting a massive improvement it should still take it a step further.

This is why I always find it funny when people defend stuff with "but the devs said this!!!".
Usually, the people who are working on a product and want to sell it to you for a profit are the least reliable sources regarding said product. It's why we have reviews, because if we take what companies say at face value then every game is a 10/10

From a sales perspective, if they could put on ps4, they would.

I suspect it’s not as drastic as they make out but if they could do it and make more money you bet they would.

How much psychopath and narcissist would be someone to talk to themselves like that?
For people who spent a majority of their life being an outcast adventuring alone? Quite a bit.

Obviously it's just a game so nothing real world about it applies. Still, it's a nice reminder I'm playing a character with a defined personality reacting to the world around them instead of an empty, soulless vessel standing there mute.
