This is sorely needed.

All the Japanese Anime game creators need to group together to get the Japanese government to investigate the US market. How can anyone expect their games to sell well on US soil when American games dominate the gaming press and marketing channels? It's just so unfair.

Free the anime tiddies, niche no more I say. Let's all make them globally mainstream by force.

Interesting that 6 of the involved senators are from MS's home state. Not warrior bullshit just a fact. This is just lobbying and quite obvious at that. Yes, Sony makes exclusivity deals but let's face it, as good as MS turned around after the fiasco that was XBox One, they will never be a major presence in Japan. The XBox Series are great consoles. And buying Activision sure, but this is just petty bullshit IMO.

That's the point of politicians isn't it. You hate them unless they do whatever you want them to do. Shit, we have a 16-party system with 6 independents on top. I love politics. Can't get enough of overpaid loons stumbling over each other to get the most out of their lobbying deals.

As for this thread, it's hilarious. Politicians complaining about third-party exclusives, or whatever the hell this is all about. Didn't know I'd live to see the day.
Gaming is forever cursed to be subjected to the political circus and...

...the more time that passes the bigger the circus becomes. Guess we all just gotta learn to enjoy the show.

I see Microsoft's E3 is back front and center. Embrace, Extend, and Extinguish.

Though,I'm glad that the "all gamers unite" bullshit mask has finally been ripped off. There literally doing the same shit as before with Windows.
Except Sony tried to content starve Microsoft before any publishers were purchased. Sounds like sony was trying to extinguish the last competition. Go on a money hat world tour to end tbe competition this is what happens.

Is this the same Congress that is questioning Tik Tok? The ones that ask if Tik Tok is accessing the wifi network?

Right..
Murica is full of dumb ones in office places.
Education here is very bad and our people elect the stupid ones for these positions.

I would be fine with this if it wasn't for MS/Xbox incompetence over the years.

They knew how to play the game.

Lost Odyssey.
Last Remnant.
Blue Dragon
Panzer Dragoon Orta
Ninja Gaiden
Dead Rising
Lost Planet
Dead or Alive
Phantom Dust

this bullshit read more like:

Xbox keeps refusing to actually do the hard work of making games.

blaming sony for their failures

That's not true.

Sony is a larger company than Activision, to the tune of $40B. They could secure financing to acquire Activision if they wanted to. Mergers and Acquisitions on that scale happen all the time.

The reason Sony didn't bid on ABK is because they aren't desperate and didn't need to, as it's a pretty large waste of money for a company they already receive the primary benefits from through third party sales. Capital could be better deployed elsewhere.

If they had a 2T market cap like MS I guarantee they would've bid.

You'd think someone at MS/XBOX would just pick up the phone and call the publisher for some of these exclusive games.

"What can we do to get this game on our platform?"

At the very least it gets a conversation going.

Sony Interactive Entertainment's shitty attitude as of late is entirely a western-made problem. All the big decisions are taken in San Mateo, California, by western executives, so I guess these politicians should look much closer to home.

Boy, I certainly miss the time in which PlayStation was actually a Japanese company even if it had a British CEO.

Man I'm liking the xbox ecosystem right now but Microsoft make it very hard to like them as a company. They are like a whiny crying child. Everything is everyone else's fault but never their own.
Have you seen their windows store?
Imagine how us pc gamers feel, when we try to use their pc gamepass.
They treat that shit like garbage.

Congress is mad that Squaresoft exists. Was Sony suppose to say “we gave you a ton of great RPGs and we funded Bloodborne, but go ahead Microsoft”. Trying to fight against Nintendo is a losing battle anyway, but seriously.. do these people even look at the games they’ve released over the last couple decades? What was Microsoft suppose to release that they didn’t? They profited from FPS for years and years. A genre that isn’t that popular in Japan.

Wasn't it thanks to the adoption of Western business methods that Sony didn't sink during the PS3?

PlayStation's management structure and business culture has been much close to Japanese style until deep into the PS4 generation when they started shifting all the decision making to San Mateo, Jim Ryan became CEO, Shuhei Yoshida was sidelined in favor of Shawn Layden, and they started to hammer on Japanese developers who didn't adhere to western values.

Don't get me started. That whole thing makes no fucking sense. It seems like every time I figure out how to use it I come back later and something is different to where I have to figure it out all over again. It's NEVER intuitive.

I'd rather have that and all their games on day one for PC (and the option to pick between Windows Store and Game Pass or Steam depending on preference) than have to wait a year for the scraps, to be perfectly honest with you.

I’ll regret this post, as I don’t want to be involved, but this is really unseemly. But understandable.

Sony have made a number of (alleged) decisions recently that can only have come from hubris. And have backfired.

For example the attempt to make Starfield exclusive. And Knights of the Old Republic remake (both games that would be hugely popular on Xbox). The stories that their new strategy was to use their market position to lock down as many big third party games as possible. Not necessarily bad business moves, but… If you don’t think those things stirred Microsoft into action I don’t know what to tell you.

And then the staggeringly Ill-advised ‘I don’t want a deal, I just want to block your merger’ outburst…

Microsoft have woken up and are fighting back. Of course they are. Sony were much better off when Microsoft were effectively asleep at the wheel. Perhaps they thought they were in a position to force Microsoft to leave the industry (plenty of Sony fans have suggested as much) but it went the other way, and Microsoft responded aggressively buying Bethesda, ABK and now using their massive influence to put the squeeze on Sony’s practises.

If there are marketing deals (not exclusivity deals) that specify ‘can’t be on Xbox’ or ‘can’t be on Gamepass’ which I think we’re all fairly sure there are, then investigation into those will be at best embarrassing, and at worst, sanctionable. Definitely potentially anti trust violations if they are provable. Pass the popcorn.

I mean Sony as a whole. The entire company was in serious financial trouble until Kaz Hirai came in with more Western business senses and straightened the company out.

Takes like these are kinda funny where Microsoft is a Trillion dollar company that can spend $70 billion in one go with no problem and can outbid Sony with ease.

That's really a completely different topic.

Nah. I just very much miss the Sony of the early PS4 era, when Andrew House was at the helm and an actually demonstrated core gamer (Shuhei Yoshida) was at the top of the studios and beat Bloodborne's bosses at events on his spare time.

It had a completely different vibe, and it was great. Jim Ryan's PlayStation is something I really can't feel good about.

Remember this? I miss it.

Now imagine how many games of that caliber they could have if they used the $67 billion on that instead of Activision.

At least we can all agree Nintendo don't count when considering these discussions.

A car is a car is a car is a car.

Hilarious how quickly that Nintendo argument got kicked to the curb, isn't it?

"Nintendo? What's a Nintendo?"
