So I've gone full retard and picked up a brand new Quest Pro as the successor to my failing CV1 Rift. I'm guessing these things weren't as popular as Meta hoped, since they're now *half* the original retail price if you shop around. Seemed like a better deal to me than going for the older Quest 2, and it has the added benefit of looking similar enough to the Rift that I might be able to fool my wife into thinking it's the same headset. I'll probably be using it wired, I have one of their outrageously expensive USB cables and the full light blocker on the way.

Tried it out via Air Link and it looks completely amazing. Way better than I was expecting. I knew there'd be a jump in resolution, but not to the point where it's actually a viable replacement for a monitor. This is like HD VR - I can read text in it and there's no tilting the headset to find the tiny sweet spot, the entire field of view is crisp. Sound is nowhere near as good as the Rift, though. I wish it had an attachment point for the Rift speakers.

It's not massively comfortable either. The visor just hangs in front of your face, so it needs to be clamped down pretty tight to stop it wobbling, and that means pain and a big old red imprint on my forehead. I've ordered a velcro strap that's meant to divert a bit of the weight to the top of the head. Are there any good softer replacements for the pleather pad at the front?

I think the safe bet is Quest 3. Same resolution, more powerful processor than Quest Pro, super small size for around $500. I do think the Quest pro is a solid PCVR headset though.

Yeah, but Quest 3 is not out yet and I bet they make it bright white like the others, which I don’t really like. Plus the better straps (and controllers?) seem to be extra with the main Quest headsets.

One annoying thing I noticed is that almost all my purchases from the Rift are only available in Quest when it’s linked to the PC. For example in standalone mode it agrees that I’ve bought a few Beat Saber music packs but not the actual game, which I’d have to buy again to play unplugged. I appreciate it’s a new “generation” of headset but it’s still not the most consumer friendly approach. I was thinking of taking this for some fun with the family over Easter, but I won’t now because I don’t own any games for it.

I'm not sure if this will help at all, but here is a list of all the things that were/are cross buy and you should be able to download for free from the quest store. It's crazy beatsaber isn't one.

It also works in both directions, which is nice when I realized I could download the PC versions of the Vader games since I have them on Quest, and play through it with more enhanced visuals.

Thanks, that's really useful. Turns out I do have access to Robo Recall and Keep Talking, they just weren't showing in my Quest purchase list. Weirdly, Lone Echo II shows up there, even though it can't be installed on the headset. There's nothing else in my list bar the Beat Saber DLCs.

I've got the link cable now so I can access Steam VR titles - seems like I needed to buy a third-party app to make that work over Air Link. Got the full light blocker as well, and that thing is great. Its rubbery flanges fit around eyeglasses, so I can do VR without having to put in contacts every time - one of the reasons I got tired of the Rift. It's quite mean not to include it in the box, though, and the price was ridiculous. The partial light blockers that they did include are completely redundant now, I'll probably never touch them again.

Now I just need to get some headphones to make up for the feeble speakers. Meta will sell me some purpose-designed ones for another 50 notes, that's very kind of them.

One more thing I noticed about the Quest Pro is that it doesn't work in a dark room. I was quite surprised about that, especially since they don't supply the light blocker. Tried it late at night with just the glow of the monitor and it told me to turn a light on so the cameras could track properly.

Hope this isn't a Sony exclusivity deal. Really can't afford to have the VR market segmented.
It's updated on Quest so, no. They probably just can't bother if their games sold the least on PC. It seems it's too much to have some devs optimize their processes with OpenXR and whatever engines/apis and what not so they can provide one version for all platforms like every modern game, no, we gotta go to the ol too-many-different-specs crap. Oh well, it's okay, The Thrill of the Fight was the less fancy but better boxing game and we'll hopefully be seeing the sequel soon as the previously solo dev has been working on it with Halfbrick Studios for some time now. Fingers crossed.

Interesting, they'll probably be unhappy with the psvr2 sales if they arn't happy with the pcvr ones. Only a few of all the oculus/pcvr ports are going to do well on psvr2 just because of the sheer amount they are releasing so close to each other with such a small market it currently has. Some are probably going to rerelease the psvr2 version on quest 3 aswell, stuff like the updated starwars game or walking dead 2 one should work fine with the extra juice in the quest 3 soc without much effort and is probably why some of those updates are not as flashy as they could be.

Too many great looking releases for a day again (I think I'm finally done editing the above post, just about ran out of embeds anyway so anything more will have to get a new reply - or just a link if it's not big enough). I'm sure some of this stuff will appear on PSVR2 if that will make more folks care.

Pretty sure greenhell is supposed to be getting a psvr2 port. Would expect to see breachers get ported aswell, although that's pure speculation.

Are there any VR games like Summer Lesson for PC? I know of a couple like VR Kanojo but they are kinda shit, and I'm not interested in the porn aspect.

PSVR has made me play more VR lately and seems like a few big titles (relatively speaking) have launched on PCVR/Quest that have made me excited, heres a couple that have caught my interest.

Ghost of Tabor has a lot of potential to be great.

I skipped Tarkov on PC but I am all in for Tarkov in VR. It has that early VR jank but the gameplay loop is solid. Hope they can ride the wave and improve it before people get bored or something better comes along.

Speaking of something better.

Breachers is something special. It's impressively polished for a multiplayer VR game and the Quest 2 port runs as smooth as butter. They have parity with graphics on PCVR except for higher res, which sounds terrible but the Quest 2 port is punching above its weight and runs fantastic. I would go as far as to say I think I prefer the Quest 2 version due to ease of use. Being able to switch on my Quest 2, boot the game and not have my PC running and then connect through VD/airlink and put up with any wifi anomolies during gameplay is worth the reduced resolution as it is the only downside right now. Buying on the Oculus store is cross buy so you get both PCVR and Quest 2 versions also If you check the reviews I am sure you will find a 25% off code somewhere, lots of people spamming their referals recently, it's a win win.

Loading times are good and time between rounds is fast and fluid, no long waiting times and I dont think I have seen the framerate tank ever. It also has a Spectate mode which is cool as hell. Watching matches in real time is something I think I could enjoy when I can't be bothered to actually play, but I have a feeling if the game does take off, the spectate feature will go away, or at least be heavily nerfed. Being able to play on your Quest 2 and have someone load up your cross buy version on the PC and spectate your match to call out enemy placements seems like something that would be abused.

I really recommend Breachers if you like FPS team games, this is really close to PSVR Firewall on PCVR\Quest2.

Five stars @ 934 reviews, 5 days after launch on Oculus quest store.

Heres a quick overview I enjoyed.

I think I need to finally look into buying a gun stock.

I've never used a VR in my life. I watched Jerma play Hitman 3 in VR and now it has my full attention. I am thinking of getting a Quest 2 as they seem to be incredible value? I am looking to play Hitman 3, Skyrim, and probably Dirt Rally 2 with my VR. I have a pretty good gaming PC which I would hardwire to. Ryzen whatever and a 3080Ti. Should I be looking elsewhere? I don't want to spend a shit ton of money but would entertain a Index if it's really worth the extra.

I think Quest 2 is great for a PC VR setup. If you get something like the index, you're stuck with a much more complicated set of wires and pieces every time you want to play. With the Quest, it's at most 1 wire (I prefer wireless mode though) and it does all its own scanning of the area from there, no need for extra boxes and cameras and all that complication.

That sounds more appealing to me. I only worry about tracking with the Quest 2- I have read that the tracking can get spotty when you put you arms down to your side. Is this something you find to be troublesome? Would those Pro controllers do the trick as they track themselves?

I've never really had trouble with the tracking on mine at all, unless I have a bright window open with sunlight which can confuse the camera in some rare cases. But I don't know about how the Pro controllers compare.

A quest pro would probably be a better option than the index at the moment if you really wanted to get in right now. I think if you could wait another month or 2 to see what the quest 3 brings would be the wise move. If you want in now and don't want to spend index/pro amounts the pico 4 and the quest 2 are pretty much your options.

Even with just 3DOF motion controls Praydog's VR injector is transformative for gameplay in Unreal Engine 4+ games. This kinda seems somewhere between Wii Red Steel 2/COD/Metroid Prime 3 type stuff and true VR FPS. Still damn immersing and fun with the headtracking and everything on top.

I wonder how much effort it will take for him to update it for ue5 once that starts to transition into releases and what kind of hardware will be needed to make it viable.
