Octopath Traveler II |OT| Can't We Talk This Over Like Normal Adults?

I'm at post-game stuff trying for platinum.

There is one trophy named "Octopath Traveler" with the description "Approached the end of your journey".

Does anyone know what this entails? I haven't been able to find anything online. I've already beaten the game including the final chapter after doing all other main and extra stories.

All that's left is to beat the optional extra boss, but I don't think that's it, as there is another trophy for doing that. Plus, PSN says over 10% of players earned this trophy, while only 4% defeated the secret, optional boss.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.

You get this

after you finish the final boss and play through the epilogue

Platinum done. #232

I'm ready for more HD2D. I know DQ3 is coming (eventually...), but I wish we could get all the NES, SNES DQ games in this style.

I'd love to see Bahamut Laggon or Treasure of the Rudras in this style.

I'm 22 hours in. Going through chapters here and there, but also exploring dangerous areas.

I'm on Ochette's chapter 2, then I'll tackle Osvald's chapter 3, since it's in the same area.

My Throné is becoming overleveled, so I migh tackle her entire story arch, to be able to switch out my main character.

67 hours later and I beat it + true end boss. Was just going to do 8 character stories but glad I did the true end. GOTY contender right here.

In terms of stories:

Throne > Temenos > Osvald > Partitio > Castti >Hikari >>> Agnea
Poor Ochette.

Edit: I wish there was a way to view missed skits, not that they are high quality, but still.

There's no easy way to check which location you haven't been to is there? I swear I explored every inch of the world map but I never did get that achievement looking through what I missed.

On to AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES - nirvanA Initiative next. This took a lot longer than I was expecting.

on chapter 5 of Osvalds story but under leveled. Only at 32. Gonna grind more. Same with Throne.

I think my favorite character so far is Partitio to play as even though the story is lackluster and weakest for me so far. The hired help skill is awesome if you have coin to burn.

Maximum amount of merchants in party, max boost, use hired help. Laugh as you break the game.

You'll just have to check against an online map for which icon isn't on your map.

Also, you apparently have revisit the areas on the prison island.

From people who played the first and second game, which do you prefer?
I enjoyed first game but the second games is waaay better in my opinion, especially when it comes to story for each character. Also the pair chapters really adds nice interaction between the characters.

Just finished off the optional superboss with a party under level 50 and without taking any damage and without any stat nuts usage. Was a lot of fun trying to optimise this fight.

Overall I had a great 100+ hours with this game. The epilogue is lovely and really makes this journey feel special.

My GOTY. Bring on Octopath 3!

P.S: Will continue playing and cleaning up some remaining side quests.

Ochette ended up growing on me pretty quick. Her voice actress is annoying but the story is likeable. And man, in battle she's possibly the best character in the game. Can capture monsters to do almost any attack or heal for no MP cost.

Throne' chapter 2 down. The story doesn't advance much, but it's interesting and has some cool scenes. I think I'm 37 hours into the game so far. Still feel like I have like another 70 to go ...

The tropics city was a ton of fun to explore. I think I spent an hour just there talking to everyone politely, then robbing them and beating them for information.

Hello Gaffers,

Well, I'm looking for a new gaming experience. I'm not a casual gamer but I suppose you could say I play the casual games. I do a lot of mp (Titanfall 2, tlou factions religiously and COD). I do every few months get heavily invested in an rpg (Fallout, the witcher, mass effect, cyberpunk etc).

A few years back I was in the same predicament and decided to get over my fears and take on the highly rated Bloodborne. Wow, What a game! Can't believe I finished. Then every year or so since DS 3, then DS1 remastered. I own Elden Ring but I'm not sure I'm ready for that kind of pain in an open world setting. I'm only a few hours in but not heavily invested yet. So....

I was interested in Octopath Traveler a few years back. It just looked cool. Didn't have a Switch then though. I've bought one in the last year for my 9 year old daughter.

I'm a ps5 guy and thought maybe I'll try something completely new to me. I've rarely done turn based games.

Could a nine year old handle OC2? Could I handle it you think?

Is it better on switch or best to stay with PS5. My daughter plays the ps5 as well. Switch has portability though.

I would think it runs better on ps5. It looks immersive but is there a steep learning curve for non turn-based experienced 47 year olds? I just love games that after leveling up so much that you just kick ass. I wouldn't want something so challenging that it isn't fun. Dark Souls is fun for me so I can handle it. If that means anything.

Any and ALL opinions are welcome.

It's a big time investment. Other than that, you should be able to handle it. In my opinion, Octopath Traveler 2 hasn't been very difficult. (I'm on the third chapter for my characters.)

Your party members don't interact in their separate stories. The game sounds great, and looks great. Combat is fair, and exploration is fun.

The game uses a job system. Each character has a job(thief, warrior, etc), but after exploring, you can also get licenses for equipping a sub job. It's fun to mix and match good combos.

Edit: I got the PS5 version.

If you played any RPG previously you wont be struggling with it. It's designed for convenience in a few ways. 1) Episodic framing with clear short term goals. 2) Journal and map tells you where to go next and at what level. It's all voice acted as well on major cutscenes, but there's reading any time you're investigating people. Navigation is mostly easy with clearly labeled roads telling you where to go.

Story content leans a bit on the mature side at times, so your mileage may vary there on what you approve of. Vague references to sexual slavery, rape, child exploitation, prison abuse. But honestly I played stuff far worse than that when I was younger and look at me now!? I'm fine! None of it is graphic, but the themes lean mature.

I'm playing on Switch, and honestly couldn't care less about any graphical differences. Playing portable feels like curling up with a good book. Game looks really great visually on Switch, but yeah probably better on PS5.

Is said nine year old interested in RPGs or fantasy? If I played OC2 at that age it would've blown my mind.

She platinumed Bugsnax. Wanted to play H:FW and is playing Slime Rancher atm.
If I use those two games to make an analysis, I would say that she likes colorful mess around kind of games. I wouldn't think that she'd take to Octopath as it can be very punishing to newcomers to the genre. If I were calculating, I would first expose her to Pokemon to which she might get used to and take an interest in the RPG elements which might lead her to be more comfortable with an RPG-like experience over time.

Any suggestions on which characters to start with or order to play?

I must admit, I'm a little disappointed to hear some of you all say that not much has changed from the first one, because I was left a bit wanting after that game. It's weird that they couldn't pull off the multiple story arcs better, when this year a remake of an SFC game did it better with Live A Live. That game was so fantastic and one of my favorites of last year.
Well possibly due to the success of Octopath 2, they decided to port Live A Live to Steam after all.

Rejoice 2D JRPG Steambros.

Octopath scratched an itch for me, loved every minute of it, but I'm also looking forward to this now. I've heard a lot of good word of mouth about Live A Live.

Been playing it for a week.
Starting character is Osvald, as I related to his character most, but his story is meh.
Throne has the hardest hitting story, so far. What a tragedy.
Hikari seems like the default hero character meant to gather everyone together, but haven't done anything past his ch.1.
Partitio is too friendly and naive to take seriously.
Casti is fine and can be OP is you have enough items, but haven't gone past ch.1.
Ochette... I hate these characters, but I'll tolerate her.
Agnea... gives Aerith but naive vibes. Only did her ch.1 so far.
Temenos is my FAVORITE character out of the bunch. The way he treats others as subjects of curiosity and his dismissive aura riles my up.

You can TRY to solo this game, but that's a waste of time and you miss out on character interactions. This is strange since the other characters don't directly engage in each others stories outside of battles.
The combat is strategic and challenging, so that good.
The graphics are PS2 2D3D unimpressive. Game must be low budget.
I only watch someone play LiveAeviL and get STRONG comparisons between these two games, so I expect more after finishing each character.
Music is GREAT.
This ultimately seems good, but won't EVER replay, after beating.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
I think I've somehow soft-locked my save. Not the end of the world, I was on Osvald chapter 3 (he's not my main character) and I have the journal entry that says something like "Osvald sets off for the guard house...". But, I've got no green dot on the map. I went into the guard house, made it all the way to the end, but it's just empty. Random encounters spawn there, but no story stuff happening. My world map says I'm in the right place to finish his Chapter 3 story...

I guess it's not a huge loss, but kinda peeved that I won't be able to finish his storyline.

Did you get the cutscene with his helper lady in front of the guard house?

I did. The one where she told me not to dwell on revenge.

Might be able to stop the story and resume from tavern? Alternatively check a video walkthrough to be sure you're not missing something.

I'm not really a fan of the writing, and voice acting. Everything else, I am enjoying. The game is a bit on the easy side, but I like the flow, just like the first one. All the third chapters are done. I have visited some off the beaten path areas, and also sailed around. Got a cool axe, that gives you two attacks. I'm trying to keep the party evenly leveled. There's not really any party member that I don't find useful. Dual classed, you can make pretty strong job combinations with all of them. My favorite aspects of the game are still the soundtrack, and exploration. Combat is good, but as I said, not super challenging outside of boss fights, or visiting higher level dungeons. To be honest, I still can't dunk on the difficulty too much, because there are many JRPGs that are easier than this. The game isn't a cakewalk, but it doesn't feel super lethal most of the time. Scoring it from where I am in the game, it's a solid 8.5/10, while I give the first game a 9.5/10.

This worked, but only after closing the game and re-opening it (I play on my laptop / suspend the system with the game running).

Cheers mate.

Never played either - a little confused on the structure. I understand it's a lot of separate stories, when you go to another character, does it feel like you're starting the game over? Is there an over arching sense of progression at all, or does it feel like you're playing multiple, 5-10 hour experiences? Thanks!

This game allows for some very formidable character growth and strong builds. My Osvald with the warrior sub class is a real beast, as is Throne with the cleric sub class. Ochette is off the charts with some of her beasts. Feeling really sorry for my enemies!

It's mostly separate stories. I'm not at the end though, so maybe it comes together. It is mechanically a bit shared though, since you can share inventory or power level new team members with older ones. And there are some co-character chapters too. The heart of the experience is a separate anthology though.

That's kind of what I was afraid of. The idea of constantly losing character progression and starting over time after time seems terrible, but I'm sure it's better in practice. I've heard nothing but great things about the second so I'm going to try it.

You keep progress of already recruited characters.

Finished the main story the other night, with a little over 100 hours... this is a ridiculously STRONG contender for my GotY, my goodness. Probably haven't felt this level of bittersweet hype/completion satisfaction since FFVII Remake and Persona 5.

I went into this one without having played the first (I'd heard some consistent complaints that were just enough to make me hesitate) but I couldn't resist going all in with this one. Thoroughly loved it all around- played it pretty chill, took my time and just soaked it in, and it was a blast. The travelers are pretty great and I was invested in their tales (....Temenos on a whole probably on a tier below the rest though aha), and it was fun to see how -without spoiling too much- different parts came together.

The bosses made me think and strategize with their curveballs, and I felt the difficulty was just perfect. Some of them were absolute long-runners for me, but I loved how hype and intense that made them, even after having to retry some of them.

And the MUSIC? good Lord, insanely good all around. Between the environmental music, story/cutscene music, battle music, and character themes (Castti's and Hikari's themes in particular punch me in my soul), the soundtrack had me consistently ascending to a higher plane. I was only somewhat familiar with Yasunori Nishiki prior, but he has definitely become one my favorite composers with just this game.

Will definitely be spreading the good word about this game as much as I can, haha.

--------

On a post-game question:
I know there's a superboss/?extra chapter? but... I have no idea how to trigger or where to begin with that. I've gone back through the towns, and I think I've done all of the "Next Chapter" quests for the key story NPCs (still have some regular side quests though for sure) but I have no clue where to actually go/what I should be looking for, wheeze

Does anybody have any not too spoiler-y hints on approaching this? Thanks!
