Microsoft says Xbox had a 16% share (console sales) in 2021.

Install base is 21%.

Sucks that they redacted the Sony and Nintendo sales splits, would've been interesting to see. Of course, sales dont tell the whole story. In terms of revenue, they were around $16 billion on par with Nintendo at $16 billion and behind the $24 billion for Sony. So 28% of revenue each for MS and Nintendo with Sony leading with 42% of the pie.

They are trying to show that they are in last place when they are actually tied for 2nd place in terms of revenue.

The world was their oyster after the success of the Xbox 360. Then they fucked up with Xbox One and have never recovered.
On top of the tvtvtvtvtkinecttvtv first impression, they became the new soony by revealing their games yeeears ahead of release and every e3 going forward became the “look what you can look forward to!! Two years from now, maybe probably!”

Yup. The good will they had with 360 was off the charts. Things started getting a little weird near the end of the cycle as Sony suddenly had the most interesting games, but I think myself and plenty of others figured they were holding stuff back for the successor console. Then they shit all over the good will because gaming wasn't good enough and they needed to dominate the living room. What a shock it was to see less performance power, higher price, and focus on TV.

Because Nintendo makes a console that plays games?

I think that's why.
They still had far more revenue than them, making them #2 in the console space based on that. Why do you think they redacted the revenue figure which is public knowledge. Hilarious. This is all smoke & mirrors for the ignoramus out there.

I thought console sales numbers didn't matter to MS? Which is it?

I wish they had revealed SX numbers. I am curious to now who many they have sold.
Same. There were some murmurs back in 2021 that the xss was already outselling it. Then the xsx went completely MIA from the stores. I wouldnt be surprised if the xsx is being outsold 2:1. Remember, they said they are losing $200 on this console. No way in hell they shipped a lot of those. It was released just to appease the fanbase and to win the tflops war. Similar to how Sony undershipped the PS5 Digital Edition which was obviously created to say they still have a $399 console.

They do when it benefits them. The same goes for Sony and Nintendo.

Didn't FTC said it was only Xbox and PS on high end market?
Unless that one doesn't apply here.
It depends on how someone wants to frame something. Some people exclude Nintendo because they have weak hardware, or miss third party games, or only make kiddie games, or consider Switch a handheld and not a console. All of that really doesn't matter though. All three companies are competing against one another.

Considering the length of the word, I would suppose that the very first is "twice" as large as. But I am not an expert at English. Otherwise they would have stated "three times" or "four times" I think. The others are two digits percentages.

There's some obvious bullshit going on with the $200 loss figure as Microsoft is always trying to look more pathetic than they really are. They probably did something like include R&D. No way Sony is turning in a profit while Microsoft is losing $200.

....this an enigma reply? I don't get the correlation to console market definition.

Profit scale would make sense in a profit argument for sure.

They are number two. You measure company positions based on revenue and market cap.

They redacted Nintendo's revenue to try and be sly where it would show that their revenue is over 33% more than Nintendo. Hell, Activision is worth more than Nintendo which makes all of this acquisition shit, insane.

position yeah for sure!

I replied to fay saying they shouldn't include Nintendo in the console market, nothing about where they sit on it.

You are grasping for an argument but I'm not the one.

Happy I Love You GIF by Warner Bros. Deutschland
I'm not. I am just providing evidence as to why some (FTC or Gaf users) would think a certain way. They have their (MS's) own ammunition to pull that from.

Nintendo quite does their own thing, their hardware is based and relies on their Disney-esque IPs they build since the NES. They're not in the high end market. They have their own market.

So we can use some algebra to figure out Xbox Series sales for 2021 now right?

I mean.....Sony is more a hardware company.

It is truly pitiful to see MS, a trillion dollar company, making themselves look so pathetic and weak in order to gain sympathy for this acquisition. If they weren’t so lazy and spent some of the billions they have invested in studios they could have possibly created some bangers. But no, they would rather play the victim card and look weak. Sony has always invested in their games and studios and always put out AAA titles that deliver. It’s the whole point of console gaming and yet MS are intent on being lazy and trying to buy up companies with established IP so they can just add them to their catalog to justify Gamepass even more.
This really shows how much more efficient Sony and Playstation is in the console space as well as Nintendo. MS has reduced the Xbox to the point of where I think many owners are questioning wether or not it’s worth to keep investing in such a pathetic company that doesn’t even believe in their own hardware. I thought console sales weren’t even the metric they used anymore? Wasn’t it engagement? They continue to spin and manipulate the conversation. I have a Series X and have always enjoyed Xbox as a whole. However, this generation and what Phil and company have reduced themselves to is making me not even want to keep it much longer. Yes, even though Starvield looks interesting. I cant invest my hard earned money into a product that the company doesn’t even believe in at this point. It defeats the whole purpose of being excited for the hardware and the ecosystem. I hope this deal doesn’t go through and MS changes personnel if possible to reboot this sad state of Xbox. They need people bak like J.Allard and Peter Moore and Seamus Blackley. Those were leaders and people who invested in games and the ecosystem. They believed in their hardware and pushed the boundaries of what it could do to create compelling new games. Phil is just content with being a victim and looking to buy up other people’s hard work and claim it as his while putting forth the least amount of effort. Xbox will never be the same and these hearings are bringing out the absolute worst in them. Shady, pitiful, groveling and just pathetic to even read anymore of this as it continues to go on. Block this deal and get this clown show over with already. Then change up the roster of people at Xbox if possible and see if they can actually make it a compelling platform again.
