I take a deep breath... I exhale calmly.

They should release a free small version of it for tlou2 remastered. All that work going to trash.

i'm kinda baffled that they couldn't even manage to salvage some kinda viable mid-price factions expansion if nothing else. & i'm especially tired of their 'but what a great learning experience' shtick. i mean, how's about we put all that there invaluable 'learning' to building, you know, an actual game? & preferably, a playstation 5, rather than playstation 6, game...

If Last of Us Part III is a few years away, then they're better off just using the leftover resources there. The casual audience playing Part III will be better than those returning players for the Last of Us Remastered.

Unpopular for who exactly?

Because I can tell you there's a particular fanbase that dominates twitter gaming discourse, such to a degree that it's unreadable.
It’s also full of factions fans and people wanting a new mp from this franchise

Massive L honestly, didn’t they say that this was part of the package when you purchased the game? Or am I wrong? If they listed as part of it but coming later are they not legally obligated to offer a refund to people buying it based on that assumption? Could they be inviting a class action lawsuit??

I would take a studio canceling a game that they feel for whatever reason won't be up to snuff... than releasing it in some sort of piss-poor state and tarnishing their pedigree.
Yeah.. I'm afraid that ship has long sailed.

They're hated by half their audience, completely fucked up their grand entrance in PC gaming, and made sure their biggest protagonists (who made them the biggest studio on planet) are either dead or retired.

Factions on the first game was legendary, I’ve clocked more than a thousand hours on my PS3 and a couple hundred more on the PS4.

It is a shame they can’t just release a similar game without all the fucking GAAS ambition.

Not being able to salvage something is just nuts

Make some multiplayer maps and give us Factions 2. It would be a few months work and would generate some big bucks. Plus, player would be happy.

I am sad that this has been cancelled as i was looking forward to it. I hope this cancellation doesn't stop Part 3 and their new IP from being developed/released. The future of Naughty Dog doesn't look good right now imo but hopefully nothing bad happens to the studio as they are my favorite Sony 1st party studio.
Ellie is already too exploited, she even has dark circles under her eyes because Playstation overuses her so much

Ok guys, here's my best outcome from this fiasco:

1) Dickmann throws temper tantrum over the cancellation and quits to join his new BFFs at HBO.

2) Bruce Straley returns, becomes new head of ND.

3) He patches things up with Amy Hennig, and convinces her to rejoin ND.

4) ND announces a complete remake of their Jak & Dakster series.

AND <drumroll>

5) ND announces that they have just acquired the Legacy Of Kain IP from Embracer Group, and will be remaking/reimagining the entire series!

Oh, and going forward all new ND games will be completely playable from start to finish on PSVR2!!!

Factions was a prime example of working within constraints and it turned out great. They removed those restrictions for whatever this was going to be and it ended up being a complete waste of time. Sony should reflect on this.
I think a lot of Devs should reflect on this. So many feature creep and padding making their games A pseudo MMO.

I don't get it, wasn't this just supposed to be Factions 2? How do you fumble this so badly, you already had the base concept from the first game that quite a few people enjoyed (myself included, apart from the P2W weapons), just update it for the new movement and mechanics of Part II.

It's incredible how these companies will spend 5 years an 100+ million dollars working on stuff then just throw it in the trash wholesale. Just strip out the best mode(s) and maps and sell it for $10 or $20, or put it on PS+ and sell a handful of cosmetics. There's no way there wasn't something worthwhile.

That’s a big oof. I didn’t spend any time on the first one, but imagine what they could of put those resources towards.

I’m sure there are plenty of projects we never get to see, but that was almost an entire longer dev cycle.

It wouldn't have been like the original Factions anyway.
Yeah it probably would have been a lot a different but that doesn’t equal bad. I’m sure the pvp would still have been part of it
Exactly. Fuck these morons at SIE and ND for depriving us of a Factions with TLOU2 mechanics. We didn’t need anything else.
It’s truly baffling. This was the bare minimum for satisfaction

The Bungie hammer was true after all.

To release and support The Last of Us Online we'd have to put all our studio resources behind supporting post launch content for years to come, severely impacting development on future single-player games. So, we had two paths in front of us: become a solely live service games studio or continue to focus on single-player narrative games that have defined Naughty Dog's heritage.
I find it hard to believe post launch support would require the entire ND team. They make it sound like it's all of nothing LOU Online. So if they are cancelling it, it means their next single player game is right now today starting from scratch since they had zero people working on LOU 3 or whatever? Highly unlikely.

They could carry SP and GAAS at the same time if they wanted to. I bet Bungie evaluated it and it was crap, so hats why weeks ago it leaked it was canceled. They just dont to say it wasnt coming along great.

Yeeehaw! 🤘🏼🤠🤘🏼

Now salvage whatever the fuck you can use on the next Naughty Project...and it better be good... ☝🏼🤨 because we will be watching you 🧐

Fuck GaaS and whatever suits thought fishing for whales was a good idea.

What?

Literally every major multiplayer title is on the system. It's one area that really doesn't need to be bolstered by 1st party, especially considering ever man and their dog are trying to make GAAS games at the moment.

It's their single player titles that have been the differentiator for them, and that's been the case consistently since the PS3.
PS3 had a lot of good multiplayer from Sony.

Why is the multiplayer space so broken that Devs can't just released a competent game without it needing to be supported for a decade with nonsense microtransactions?

Hopefully they can just create a standard multiplayer for TLOU3
The greed for MTX. It's not worth it unless the backend mtx revenue is there.

MTX is a relatively new thing. Back when online became standard for console gamers during the 360/PS3/Wii era, the only mtx were $15 map packs and dumb shit like $5 dashboard backgrounds. Gamers were fine. And you had successful games selling millions of copies. But companies would rather have the MP game chock full of mtx.

1. Make a really good MP game without worrying about mtx revenue, loot crates, weird shit in the game like Lara Croft and Tree Dude in COD, and balance issues from all the mtx

2. Make a really good MP game including all that shit

In modern day game making, it seems every dev will choose #2.

GaaS games are a huge resource hog after the main game launch, could they do both? Probably, but it would still be a massive amount of people at ND working on that full time which is not something they are prepared to do. The reason behind it's cancellation is more likely due to multiple reasons but the main one is probably just sheer resources required.

Now how much this is down to Bungie with their recommendations as to what it would take to service this game for years we may find out at some point but it won't solely be down to Bungie to make any form of decision on its cancellation/ND no longer working on it.

Anyway, ND are well known for their single player narrative driven action games, so I prefer they continue to do that.

I know I generally talk crap about Naughty Dog and TLOU but that's a bummer for the people working on it and everyone who has been anticipating it.

My condolences. :messenger_anxious:

They made the right decision based on that. WoW ruined Blizzard for years and if this was even half as popular we wouldn't see a new ND game for a decade.

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
Was it ever in development?
Seemed like a carrot to wave in front of people while they wait for the next thing.
Which was the TV Show, I mean you can't expect one man to lead development of a TV show & make a new game as well as well a Sequel to keep the show running...
You got a few years before you see anything new and it'll likely be TLOU3 and then we start all over again

A shame they wasted so much time on this, but good that they focus on single player again.

Didn't I once hear a rumour that we're working on some kind of dark fantasy game? More that would interest me coming from them.

What hard numbers are you working from to make this claim?

The data just isn't there.
What do you mean? The biggest GaaS games have hundreds of people working on them, constantly. Fortnite? Destiny? Massive teams just working on a single game. Apex Legends has just had 200 QA staff let go, QA, not even including the main Devs so that's a massive team also.

ND themselves are saying it.
