That game is barely horror game, Remedy still doesn't fully understand how to make proper survival horror game.

I think it would be better not putting more than one single game of the same ip for leaving room to other ips in a top10 or 20. For example, Darkwood, Fatal Frame, Siren or System Shock 2.

Dead Space 2 has always been my #1. Nothing has ever caused a sense of fear/dread in me playing a videogame like when you have to go back to the Ishimura.

I say a horror themed game without action is just an adventure game. However, most fans of horror have no interest in horror games with different gameplay design from what they grew up with.
My Top 10 Survival Horror Games:
10. Evil Dead: A Fistful of Boomstick (PS2/XBOX) - A snarky hero fights the spawn of the Necronomicon using guns, Molotovs, and a chainsaw attached to his right arm.
9. Dead Rising (X360) - A photojournalist tries to uncover a zombie outbreak conspiracy while being trapped in a zombie-infested mall filled with psychos.
8. Forbidden Siren 2 (PS2) - Time loops trap residents of a remote Japanese village in an everchanging nightmare that concludes with the end of the world unless drastic actions are taken.
7. Bloodborne (PS4) - In this Lovecraftian nightmare adventure a hunter must hunt.
6. Silent Hill (PS1) - A father looks for his missing daughter in a nightmarish town after they are separated by a car accident.
5. Days Gone (PS4/PC) - A biker traverses post-apocalyptic wasteland created by hordes of the living dead to find closure in the unknown fate of his wife.
4. Dead Space 2 (PS3/X360) - Virus that weaponizes dead tissue wreaks havoc on a space colony as mentally deteriorating sole survivor of the previous outbreak attempts to bring an end to it.
3. Evil Within 2 (PS4/XBONE/PC) - A washed up ex-detective plugs back in to a new version of the reality simulation turned nightmare to save his abducted daughter.
2. Resident Evil 3 (PS4/XBONE/PC) - When a bioweapon targets a survivor of Spencer Mansion Incident she is forced to team up with a mercenary to survive the city-wide zombie outbreak.
1. Obscure (PS2/Xbox) - After a student goes missing a group of friends stays afterschool to search for him but are attacked by creatures of the dark.

Nothing has been as scary as RE7 in VR for the first time. I have a funny story about getting so scared I had to stop playing for two weeks before I went back to it lol.

I'm not the biggest survival horror fan by any stretch of the imagination, but having RE1 over the REmake is absolutely shocking to me. To me REmake is the absolute pinnacle of the genre.
I understand and accept the opinion on RE4 and DS falling short of the criteria. However, (and I know this person is different from the reviewer) it will always be hilarious to see IGN praise Alien Isolation after that god awful review.
I think this list could potentially have done without Clock Tower, Alan Wake 2 and Outlast.
RE7 in my opinion is valid when played in VR especially. Even with its awful PSVR implementation, the act of backtracking and being in that survival horror environment was still incredible.

It's also insane to include RE2R and not RE4R because both are very similar games. Menus, systems, combat approach, etc. One just has a more bombastic narrative.

A handful of scenes in that game are legit disturbing. It is a shame the pacing and mechanics did not receive needed updates on this remake. Would have loved to have more leniency with stealth like in FS2.
