Red Orchestra 2: Rising Storm Invitation Beta is live (websites will give out keys)

Let's not go overboard? If anyone else had pulled off the shit that Tripwire did, you'd be screaming bloody murder and calling it a scam. At launch the game had massive performance problems, non stop crashes for both the client and servers, sound issues and tons of bugs. Remember the constant 10gb patches after release? Remember how they had to wipe all stats because it never worked at all? Tripwire knew all this. They knew the game was broken. They knew it was unfinished. They knew the game was nowhere close to being ready for release, and yet they released it anyway. That in my mind is the most egregious aspect of the whole debacle. And yet, somehow, their "indie cred" is supposed to shelter them from criticism for doing this shit.
I never said we should shelter them from criticism. Launch was a mess, for sure. Wiping the stats didn't matter to me personally but it was a bull move. It was however always playable and I have far from a monster rig. What really pissed me off was the shooting helmet bug/exploit with proned mgs but they have fixed that in the meantime. I hope they have learned their lesson and if RS suffers from the same problems I will be among the first to call them out.

Did they patch Rising Storm so you can actually save video settings or is it still the same system of RO2 (why the hell was a 4:3 aspect ratio set as the default?) where it always switches back to the defaults no matter what you do?
Go to your cfg folder and disable read only, it should save without problems. I did lose my keybinds ina recent patch for whatever weird reason but other than that it should work fine.

i guess i was one of the few that never had major issues running ro2. didn't get it at launch but very shortly thereafter, at least.

super fun game, can't wait for this

For anyone trying to get in the beta, this is the thread on the Tripwire forums to follow. The developer periodically posts keys in the thread.
Also, the Rising Storm team is posting keys on the community hub here as well.

didn't get any key despite playing plenty of RO2 lately :( oh well got enough stuff in my backlog, but I'll be there when the expansion hits :)

and yeah they should have released a year later, guess they wanted to beat BF3 release date or something?

also fuck their Punkbuster implementation ; with SLI disabled it causes 2 seconds freezes every now and then, and with SLI enabled it just crashes continuously. So I only play on servers without Punkbuster

Yeah, I just recently tried to get back into RO2...the game just does not scale well on high-end rigs. Jank performance. It's so frustrating...reminds me of the ARMA series. I don't understand why these guys can't just get with AMD and NVIDIA and figure out what's up.

Hopefully this new expansion raises the stakes so some add'l tuning will be done with the engine.

+ 120 fps smoothedframerate UE3 config (like every UE3 game it is limited to 90 fps by default)
+ disable ingame AA & set Post Processing Quality to "low"

gives me 90~120 fps with oc'ed SLI 670 and a 4.8 GHz 2600K

I got to get back into this game. I bought it day 1 after loving the original Red Orchestra but the horrible launch killed the game for me. Still haven't come back to it, got busy with other games.

They were all gone within seconds of me clicking the event popup in Steam. This is seriously the worst way to do this.

Did it show up for people not in the beta too? I was playing, this event thing popped up, I saw the keys, then the server crashed.

There will be an open beta. When? "Soon".

Yes, Tripwire doesn't have money to make huge marketing campaign, to pay for professional trailer. For that, you can buy Call Of Duty 27 or Battlefield 4S with commander, maybe in Battlefield 6 there will be sdk.

We have a lot of alternatives to Red Orchestra, we can play the amazing Activions and Dice series with dlc map pack, 60 dollars at launch and even more.

Let go of tripwire, they don't deserve your interest.

Just give beta access upon pre-purchase of the game. Simple.

Just because their game is more realistic and demanding compared to arcade shooters, doesn't mean we should sit back and accept their bullshit.

Is this free for Red Orchestra 2 owners? I assumed it was. If it's not then having Red Orchestra 2 in the game title is a instance death sentence and it will bomb harder than RO2 ever did.

You are a customer and you pretending they starts now with a pre order beta access. Without any reason :D

If you don't like their way to distribute beta keys, you can just sit calm and wait for open beta or preorder.

PS: tripwire give you the opportunity to play as rifleman only, if you bought RO2 and you have no intention to buy rising storm. It is a way beyond whay other companies does,

Game runs great for being a beta, just a little bugs here and there. The only major problem i have, is with the flamethrower in iwo jima, dont know why but the game freezes just after the first kill (it doesnt happen with the rest of the weapons).

Anyway, the game it's really fun (banzai charges :3) and feels more epic than RO2 vanilla.

Things that need to be balance:

type 100: needs a little more recoil
type 10 "knee mortar": less shells, i think you can carry 5 or 6, that is too many (2 or 3 would be fine)
Flamethrower: needs some kind of recoil

Would be nice if they add sherman/type 97 tanks (and anti-tank soldier class, of course).

Tripwire just pushed out a huge update and details can be found on their forums here.
They pretty much reduced the mortar's splash damage and thankfully fixed the BAR accuracy.

Apparently there's six maps made for Rising Storm too. I originally thought there was only four.

Rising Storm is going to be available for pre-purchase very soon, via the Steam store page, with the Base version of the game at these prices: 19.99 USD/ 17.99 EUR/ 14.99 GBP/ 399 RUB.

You can also buy the Rising Storm Steam Digital Deluxe Edition, which adds the following extras:

Day 1 Unlock of the US M12 Trench Shotgun, Japanese Type 99 LMG, Japanese Type 99 Sniper Rifle with 4X scope (level 2) and the US M1 Garand with bayonet (Level 2).

2 Rising Storm soldier playable characters for Killing Floor - Ricky Vegas and Hayako Tanaka.

The Rising Storm and Red Orchestra 2 soundtracks.

AND all the upgrades for the RO2 Digital Deluxe Edition (4 day 1 unlock weapons, 2 playable RO2 characters in KF, and 2 RO2 hats in TF2)

The Steam DDE is priced at 29.99 USD/ 24.99 EUR/ 19.99 GBP/ 499 RUB.

Discounts and specials:
Pre-purchasing Rising Storm (Base or DDE) will grant immediate access to the Rising Storm Beta (note that experience earned in the Beta will NOT carry over to the released version).

There will be a 15% discount off the pricing during the pre-purchase period

All existing RO2 owners get an additional 25% discount off Rising Storm
(Base or DDE; does NOT apply to a later upgrade from Base RS to DDE)

And last, but by no means least, all those early purchasers of RO2 who earned the "In B4 Reset" Achievement will get all the Day 1 unlocks for Rising Storm (4 weapons) PLUS a 2X multiplier on experience points earned during the first 2 weeks after release.

So basically 40% off if you already own RO2. I really can't wait for the In Country Vietnam mod but I've been looking for a good multiplayer game. Is there a RO2 GAF sqaud?

Pretty solid for a beta. Only played two maps briefly but the server was running MP campaign, which obviously needs a lot of work still (or maybe isn't even supported officially atm). Axis chose to attack Iwo Jima and that obviously didn't work out with asymmetric factions. They need to rebalance the maps specifically for this case me thinks.

Other than that plays, looks and feels great and I haven't even touched the cfgs yet.

If we need another OT, I can make one because this game deserves it. I did the RO2 one and even I gave up on the game for a while after launch but it's good now and the community vehicles project will help out tremendously.

Kind of funny I've been playing RS for a week or so thinking what an idiot I was for not getting back to them over a year ago about testing RS privately but I had surgery followed by another surgery which made me forget all about it. I just knew I couldn't put in the hours back then either.

I desperately want to pick this up, but as with 95% of multiplayer only titles, there's not enough of an Australian community / servers to justify the purchase.

That, or servers are dead in a month.

May actually preorder this. $12 and I have in b4 reset. Even with all the problems at launch I absolutely loved RO2, stopped playing when the pop started dwindling and the servers I used to play on disappeared.

how does it compare to vanilla RO2 experience.

A LOT better gameplay in my opinion due to the asymmetry and it's more complete than the early days of RO2. The gameplay is very asymmetric with both sides having advantages in different areas and they have to play differently because of it. There's more action overall due to the map design with most of the maps feeling really good about not just being a campfest but actually having enough cover to advance and flank if you want. They have plenty of room on the sides to do that as well.

The foliage on some maps add another element to engagements as I've used the bushes to conceal my advance on the flank and I've been shot by snipers that were concealed as well but it's still not too bad to spot movement in those areas making it a good addition and not too annoying since most people on one side are moving up anyway.

I truly think this surpasses RO2 for overall gameplay and I love playing both sides for different reasons. It feels more chaotic yet not too crazy but there's a lot more movement than RO2 with more cover to conceal you. The maps are good for the most part with a decent flow although there are still a few areas that are tough but that's more due to the fact that there's a lot of noobs right now and squad leaders that ignore smoke.

It's hard to cover it all and I'm really tired so I'm going to head to bed but I'll elaborate on certain points or answer questions if you want me to once I get up tomorrow.

Then I might start working on the OP as long as you guys liked the RO2 OT. :D

The fucking bane of my time spent with it last night. On Iwo Jima playing as the US it was an utter bastard trying to get past the beach as the silly sods playing as SL's wouldn't lay down smoke and we ended up being pinned down on the beach, utter clusterfuck.

Thankfully in the second round people actually started talking to each other. SL's started to put down smoke, we all poured onto certain territory points giving each other cover and managing to flank the points plus it was great letting the flamethrower guys get close to burnout those bastards dug deep in the machine gun bunkers. We still lost overall as we couldn't get the last territory but it was much more fun. So far the maps have been good though I've only played 3 of them. Iwo Jima was great once the teamwork started and then there was a nighttime map which was very intense. The maps all have a wonderful atmosphere to them and a real sense of place, a lot of work has been put into them. So far it seems a lot more stable than RO2 ever was though I did have some random moments where I'd have a blue sniper reticule on my screen for some strange reason. Thankfully these moments weren't too often.

I'll definitely be putting more time into it in beta/full release. Only reason I haven't played RO2 for so long is because of how buggy it was but even that seems to be doing pretty well these days. Playing RS last night reminded me how much I love the intensity of RO2, the combat is sublime and it really rewards teamwork. That's the one thing I love about PC games, there's always a chance they can come back from the brink regardless of how rocky a start they had :) Plus there's no other recent WW2 games to get my fix from!

Grabbed it. Downloading it now. I was far more keen on Rising Storm compared to RO2, so it'll be interesting to see how receptive I am in a few more hours.

So I took advantage of the discount and have been playing it quite a bit since yesterday. Overall my impressions are good, the flamethrower really needs nerfing though. It's too powerful.

Have you taken the role?It is very slow, one slot, even japanese has role more powerful than other. Asymmetrical gameplay.

I guess it isn't too bad considering you can kill someone 100m away with a smg. I think it's maybe the cone of fire, hard to determine where it's coming from and before you know it you're dead.

Been playing for an hour, got like 2 kills and died 20 times think I saw one enemy. Not going so well.

Love the game. Maps are much better than most of RO2's offerings. Weapons seem very balanced, despite what you would think.

Though for some reason I can't seem to figure out the Japanese sniper rifle sights. Seems like it doesn't hit in the main crosshair.

Have they ditched the dumb unlock system?

I put like 40 hours into RO2 after it launched, this sounds good. Are there less automatics now? I haven't kept up with RO2 since it kept getting patched but I really hated that things like MP40s were like 40% of the weapons in a game. I really liked rifleman-ing it up but it always sucked to instantly lose 99% of the fights against someone with automatics.

Flame thrower is great. Me and some other Japanese were covering a point when a flamethrower appeared. He proceeded to mow 5 of us down.

Well if you play as the japanese its all bolt rifles there but americans have the garand, bar thompson so plenty of automatic weapons for them but i have seen fewer submachine guns in play in most of my matches.

They have got to be shitting me, FPS keeps dipping below 60 for brief seconds that seem to cause this tiny, tiny bit of stutter or jerk.
