Final Fantasy XV Dengeki Info: More Sequel Teasing, Tons of Characters

- With the timeframe they're considering for the release of the game, it'll be hard to wrap up the story with the first game;
- Cor and the driver from the 2011 trailer are different characters, the voice actor has changed for the later (he was previously also voiced by Hiroki Tochi);
- Warp is a Noct-only ability. We saw examples of its "short" version in the latest trailer, but expect some footage of a "long" warp;
- There are a lot of male characters, but expect some females ones too besides Stella and the black-haired girl. Expect much more characters than the ones we saw in the latest trailer;
- Cor joins later, first party is Noct and the three other dudes;
- They want to find an use for the different console-specific gimmicks such as the PS4 share button;
- Concept of asymmetry between the main characters and the Nifleheim ones, who wear white.

This sounds bad IMO. I want FF XV to give us a satisfying conclusion and not a "To Be Continued" vibe along with a lot of unexplained things.

Forget about this for the next decade. There will be surely a climax (like killing the main boss), but only to unfold a greater peril approaching. See the Mass Effect series as a reference.

I think we might see the FFX and FFXIII model of X-2, X-3 type sequels being more the norm than the exception going forward, as it allows them to recoup more profit by reusing assets, etc.

If I get two main titles with two or three sequels each, I'll be more than happy of this strategy. S-E's target is to release at least one main FF every year from some time, so its fits with the plan to have two different teams working on two different FF series at time. Only this time sequels will be planned from the beginning and not made-on-the-go like X-2, XIII-2 and LR.

yep. One main FF every year sounds...aggressive. The ONLY way this is possible imho is if they're referring to X-2, X-3 type "sequels" as mainline entries. Redoing the series from scratch takes way too long for say, XV, XVI, XVII to see back to back release.

I can see something like XV, then XV-2, then XVI, then XV-3, then XVI-2, then XVII, etc being feasible.

They say it'll be hard, but previously Nomura has said that XV will end the story it starts. Would be against that if suddenly they decided there would be a To be continued... by the end.

And look at the bright side, that part really sounds like they probably ARE aiming for a release date that is sooner rather than later, if they are already panicking about not being able to finish in time.

That's what they meant, and in this generation they more or less achieved this target: XIII, XIV, Type-0, XIII-2, ARR, XIII-3. Six games in six years.

Rub it in, why don't you. edit: Type 0 and ARR as "mainline" entries are kind of stretching the definition, I think.

Oh and I have to wonder about that whole short vs long warp. I doubt he's talking about the distance, but rather the time it takes. We saw Noctis throw his swords and instantly warp to them even if they were quite far away. So I'm thinking we might get some ability akin to Cole's vampire/bat-flying in inFamous: Festival of Blood, which is used more for traversal than battle although it has its uses in there too.

Yeah, probably the most concerning news about this.

ME1 was ok with that. But fuck ME2. I'm sick of these sorts of cliched shoehorned endings.

Not really. ARR is basically XIV-2, or really an even more substantial new release, and Type-0 was supposed to be a start of a kind of "portable mainline FF" line, which shows in the scale & features of the game (one of the largest casts of characters in FFs, airships, world maps and chocobos)

some, but nothing really new from Dengeki magazine this week...

-Cor's VA was actually the driver from 2011 trailer who says "Noctis oouji!" They changed driver's VA because now he voices Cor.

-there are a lot of male characters but Nomura says there will be females so don't worry about it. (not about party member, but in the game)

-there will be limitation for Noct's warp in the battle. In the video they only showed short warp but there is also a long warp which they will talk about later.

-there is huge area to move around and thats why it took so long to develop.They were thinking of shrinking down the size or scale but they decided to keep the scale. Considering the game' release timing it will be difficult to complete the whole story in one game.

C'mon dude, it's been posted not even 20 posts ago :

I wish they could tell us this "timeframe" they are considering. maybe 10th anniversary since the game was announced?

This seems like FF Type-0's cast which was really awesome.

Interesting bits there.

The top is both encouraging and discouraging. On one hand, it implies that they are hoping to release sooner rather than later, which would make a late 2014 release the likely target. At the same time, it sort of goes against what Nomura said about the game being a complete story, which I hope remains the case.

I'd imagine any sequels would be based on the state of the world after the ending of XV or even perhaps a prequel if that's viable.

No surprise Warp is for Noctis only. The long and short mechanic to it is interesting and I'm wondering if perhaps the ability to warp could level up and improve as well.

Large case sounds good to me so long as the cast doesn't get too unwieldy.

I'm thinking maybe Accordo perhaps for when he shows up then or sometime near the end of the segment in Lucis.

Nomura actually commented on that, he said the combat will look a bit chaotic and what the fuck is happening for someone who is watching it, but the one who is in control should still be completely in control of it all.

Hopefully this ends up being the case as a bad battle system would probably kill this game.

Can't you just make the fucking Fantasy... You know...

...FINAL..?

These games shouldn't be getting sequels. Goddamn you, Lightning.

I know...this trend in films and games, the amount of sequels these days is mind boggling. hooray for encouraging creative bankruptcy...

As long as the first game doesn't end on a cliffhanger, I will be okay with a potential sequel (depending on how it is done, of course). But as others have said, I really would prefer if they did away with these direct sequels and just made completely new universes/worlds/characters. *shrug*

I will put out a prediction.

2014: Final Fantasy XV
2015: Final Fantasy XVI
2016: Final Fantasy XV-2
2017: Final Fantasy XVI-2
2018: Final Fantasy XV-3
2019: Final Fantasy XVI-3
2020: We're probably at a new generation by this point.

Not sure about console specific versions either...

I mean, I'm not totally against a sequel. But only if you give the game a shitty ending that doesn't tie everything up and leave it up from any interpretation.

I'm looking at YOU, Final Fantasy X. I did like FFX-2, but could I have gotten along without a sequel, and loved FFX that much more if the ending wasn't so "WTF??". Damn right. FFX-2, while good, didn't really need to exist.

IMO

There. Now people can finally stop panicking about the lack of female characters.

There better not be a goddamn loli in the game, Nomura. Resist the temptation to pander! Resist it!

Eugh.

Final Fantasy XV in 2015
Final Fantasy XV-2 in 2017
Final Fantasy Versus VX in 2019

I have seen the future, and it is bleak. I really really really hope we get 3 brand new mainline non sequel FF next generation, but I'm starting to doubt that now.

Do you guys think there is a team somewhere working on 16 now, or is everything going into this?

How do you expect them to have XVI out in 2015 when they're still full board on XV, XIV, KH3 and Lightning Returns? Who else is there over there that could be working on XVI right around now?

Chamber

love on your sleeve
I don't mind a sequel. Just don't make me wait too long for Agni's Philosophy to be turned into a real game.

If there were a lot of important female characters I would have to think they would have been featured in the trailer. As it stands this game looks like a sausage-fest, but apparently this is an illegal opinion to have, so I'll say no more on it.

Also, X-2 was basically the worst thing to happen to the series, not because it was a terrible game or anything but because of the nasty precedent it set for the series future.

If they actually end up ending a mainline FF on an honest to goodness cliffhanger, haha, fuck you SE.

One or two sequels per universe is hardly creative bankruptcy, don't be silly. They use this huuuge effort to build a massive new universe, why SHOULDN't they be allowed to visit it in more than one game, especially considering that it will be impossible for them to continue creating new universes in the future if they don't get more profit back from such big investments.

It's not being creatively bankrupt when writers write trilogies and whatnot, why should gaming deserve massive bitching when they say they are considering sequels?

I'm assuming that with FFXIV and Lightning Returns ramping down, FFXVI would have enough staff, especially since the handheld teams that were doing things like Type-0 and the portable Kingdom Hearts appear to be on consoles now judging by where the directors are.

I could be wrong on that however.

I feel like this, a majority of FF's are self contained, why not have a few that have sequels.

People are screaming creative bankruptcy, but in the end if people like the characters, they want more game, and Square is wiling to give it to them.

Its less creative bankruptcy and more you being a minority really.

Only this time sequels will be planned from the beginning and not made-on-the-go like X-2, XIII-2 and LR.

The problem with these sequels is that if you didn't like the game you can't just "forget about it" and wait for the next one. The great thing about the franchise used to be that you only had to wait a few years for the next new title, and you knew that it would be different, in some ways, from the last. Watching all the sequel announcements for XIII has been a heart-wrenching experience for myself, as I am one of those people who did not enjoy the first game.

I'm a sucker for turned based Final Fantasy so hearing about FFXV, an ARPG, has also been really bitter-sweet. I don't mind the genre, and I enjoy Kingdom Hearts... But that's not what I want from Final Fantasy. Thinking about this experience possibly lasting again, like last-gen, for another 4~5 years... Is daunting. :(

Hope this puts a stop to those stupid, baseless "SQUARE IS SEXIST/DOES SQUARE THINK MY BOOBS CAN'T KICK ASS" tangents.

I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with wanting more females, but some of the comments I've read on the subject have garnered the biggest eyerolls I have ever done.
