EA is looking at putting in-game ads in AAA games — 'We'll be very thoughtful as we move into that,' says CEO

They have already done this in their sports titles with this coin toss is brought to you by….

You pay $70, then you die in-game, please watch this 30 sec video to revive

make sure the pudding isn't too soggy but that just ruins everything
i don't think i've purchases anything from EA in a long time. this will continue. there was a time when i used to buy nearly all their games across many genres, practically annually.

There seems to be this attitude in gaming where people are obligated to play your games just because you made them.

I would no go to a theatre to watch a movie if that movie started showing ads. I just wouldn’t watch that movie.

Gamers just won’t buy your game. Why would we put up with this bullshit?

Bootlickers excepted of course

Thanks EA, for giving me more reasons not to buy your games. I would hate having to consider installing their shitty 3rd apps and making accounts.

They’ve had in game ads for about 20 years at least. Didn’t Burnout Paradise update the in game billboards every few weeks?

Nothing new here. “Advergaming” is the term, I think.
Need for speed most wanted 2005 is full of Burger King billboards lol. They pushed that stuff hard in the mid aughts

In-game ads restricted to product placement:... pretty cool actually. Actually helps immersion in realistic games.

In-game ads that stop your game to advertise lawnmowers to you:.... fuck that shit right off!!!

I think so long as it fits the game and has it styled in the way it fits it would be fine. For example, if they had a Pepsi advert in Cyberpunk (yes, I know that's not EA), and that advert was a futuristic Pepsi video using character models used in the game promoting it then that would be perfectly acceptable (cool even)...... But then, what's the chances that will happen?
There is no case where I will find it acceptable to have ads broadcast to me in my full paid for game. Fuck that.

Why not? Gamers already bend over and spread their cheeks just to be entertained like a clown, why not go for more, most people will still play the games anyway, keep milking the cow until its dead. why would they stop as long as the sales are there? Same with madden every year, people keep buying the game, so why improve it, why not just make it worse and put ads in people will bitch n moan which in itself is engagment. this is the future of aaa gaming, it will get worse and worse, you will see a bunch of ai slop made textures soon in games, and people will still buy it.

EA CEO Andrew Wilson confirmed the company is considering putting ads in traditional AAA games — titles that players purchase up-front for around $70 apiece. In the Q&A part of EA’s latest earnings call, Eric Sheridan from Goldman Sachs asked Wilson about dynamic ad insertion in traditional AAA games. Wilson said, "…Advertising has an opportunity to be a meaningful driver of growth for us." He then continued, "…we have teams internally in the company right now looking at how we do very thoughtful implementations inside of our game experiences."
Jesus why do nome of these shitty companies ever learn?
More importantly though why the fuck do gamers still buy their shit year after year? Just let them go broke ffs

Neat idea, but that takes actual effort, so EA will pass on that. They'll slap a static ad right into your eyeballs and you'll have to put up with it.

The dev that will add such things will simply be blacklisted from me.

This has been a long time coming unfortunately. Can’t wait for the influx of betting ads in their sports games. Be like watching the real thing.

No matter how hard these companies try to ruin the gaming industry, it doesn't matter to me at this point. I have a huge library of games to play until my hands stop working. They can do whatever they want.

You guys are actually missing the devious nature of this.

Games are priced at 70 dollars and will have ads or you can pay 75 or 80 dollars without ads... This is the future they're trying to create.

We've had ads in games (paid games even, remember Death Stranding Monster Energy? or Alan Wake Product Placements?) for a long time now

Worry about the ones that interrupt gameplay

Im not that against it if it makes sense to add them, like in a GTA like type of game why not use Coca Cola and other real brands for ad textures.

No way would they allow you to bang a brass as you deliver drugs, all while enjoying a cool refreshing Coke.

That's why this idea is shit

Please do that . One single ad . And you lose my money .

Let’s see who will get on his knees begging to sell the game.

While at it . Since you won’t get sales from most normal people , fire the staff you have too so you don’t make games anymore and blame it on the low sales .

These shit heads will know soon enough what we think about ads in their games… when they are fired lol

They are so pressed to turn Console gaming into the shitfest that is mobile gaming. The whole point of F2P is that the ads and mtxs make up for the "free" part...but no, these greedy fucks want to put this crap in console games as well.

What time is it?
I almost posted that I can't remember the last EA game I purchased but I just picked up the C&C bundle on Steam and I did buy the Dead Space remake on Xbox because they sold it for $8 or $9 dollars. Like others have mentioned, EA has always pushed the boundaries with in game advertising and it wouldn't surprise me to see a game like Madden go to commercial break and then run ads. I'm glad that they make very, very little that I'm interested in.

Sshhhh. Don’t tell the investors he’s trying to assure. Electronic Arts is poised to fully bounce back to their former glory and day now.
